It was kind of a riddle. You're shown a map at the begining of the level with the position of the fortress. The trick is that the size of the fortress is the same of each square on the level. After a while you'll figure it out easely. 😊
I have played this as a kid and it took many hours to get decent at it. I remember eventually making it till the final boss (dragon) but i was never able to beat him.
Looks like a great shooter, and one I would have enjoyed when I was younger. I'm not sure my thumbs would hold up against this style of game in my advanced years, lol
This is the only game I ever completed on every difficulty setting. I thought I was done with the hardest setting but that then unlocked the ultimate difficulty, and I was obsessed - I had to complete it, and I did. Brutal hard but I did it. Strangely addictive game.
My big brother used to play this game an awful lot. He became really good at it, but never managed to complete the last stage as far as I remember. It brings a lot of memories! A great game that was indeed overlooked!
I have been searching for the name of this game for years. And I do mean years. I had it as a kid in the early 90’s and I don’t even know what happened to my NES system. I couldn’t remember the name until I saw this video and randomly clicked it, hoping it was the one. And yep. It was a hard game but it unique. And I think I also had it on game boy.
I used to love this game as a kid. My friends that i used to invite hated it because of the difficulty. It's hard but it's beatable. Sadly it is too short... once you're good with it, 20 min will be enough to beat it.
Shooter gods giveth, shooter gods taketh🤣 I'm playing a shooter called "Buraigun Galaxy Storm" on switch not sure if there related. Excellent video be well👊🎮🍻
I just played through this earlier this year. I really loved it. The games that KID developed on NES have become some of my favorites. Both GI Joe games, Isolated warior and Kick Master. I never played any of those growing up and only recently discovered them. I only ever beat it on the easiest difficulty as I am not great at shooters and most scare me off. Great video. Really enjoyed it.
I was lucky to have Burai Fighter and GI Joe growing up, and they were some of my favorite NES games, especially the latter. I still need to get around to playing Atlantis Factor and Isolated Warrior, and I HAVE played a bit of Kick Master which is beyond awesome but I need to finish it. Definitely an underrated, awesome developer.
I actually had this is the kid It and Zanac are my favorite nes shooters probably because they’re the ones I had I feel like the S maybe made you go a little faster I don’t remember
this does look like a great game!! showcasing these different games like this realy sheds light on some real must have titles. unrelated, natsume best developer.
As a kid I got so frustrated with this game and could never beat it, even on "easy". Later in life I managed to beat this on Ultimate difficulty. The fight against the last boss is extremely intense. BTW, "S" increases your speed and in the overhead levels you have to find the base (its location is shown on a map at the start of the stage to give you some kiind of indication to where to go) and destroy it. These levels are ideal for powering up your guy.
Honestly a lot of games No one played I own!🤯 I bought a lot of old games back in the early 2000s off gamestop and Ebay before the big scalper boom.😥🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
If you loved this game you have to play Battlemania daiginjou for sega genesis, ability to shoot in all 8 directions, challenging but more balanced and forgiving with great music, feels like an evolution of sorts.
Man I had this game when was I kid and I almost beat once but that damn last dragon boss was just too much for my little 9 year ass, now even if I can replay it I think I'm too old to deal with its difficulty XD
I'm late to the party but this game is a decent play, top of the Bteir NES game, good review bro, love your content a lot,I connect with a lot of this as I was a kid in the 80s,
this game is hard but its pretty enjoyable i have good times with this one but i agree some parts can be pretty cryptic you need to die over and over again to understand what to do great video bro
Hey thanks! R-Type is kind of like that too, there’s several sections that are kind of like puzzles you have to die your way through multiple times to solve.
Yooo I had this as a kid and freakin loved it, though it was super hard for me and I never fully beat it I got to the last stage on my own at least :D If i recall correctly in the overhead stages they're just infinitely-looping grids and you gotta fly around till you find the base you're supposed to blow up, like go south a sector then fly straight right like 10 sectors till it loops (not that you'd know it even does by default...) then repeat till you find it, kinda thing. Also I remember there being secrets where you can like push against a certain part of the screen at a certain time and you'll actually force it to scroll in a certain direction to reveal hidden powerups and stuff.
I played this so much as a kid. Could never defeat the dragon at the end of the game, also I never knew thats how Burai was pronounced!! 😂 Awesome vid and you just got a new subscriber!
aha! Here it is: Burai Name Meaning: 武頼; Meaning: 武Strong and courageous. Strong-willed. warrior. soldier. Battle. War. Military. War potential. Weapons. Overcome. Surpass. 無頼, ぶらい, burai = hoodlum, scoundrel, ruffian, tough, villain, villainy, without relying on others, without asking for help The Hindi word buraii (बुराई) has multiple meanings in English: Evil An uncountable noun that refers to all the bad and wicked things that happen in the world. For example, "the battle between good and evil".
Finished this recently at the lowest difficulty and man, this was the hardest of the KID bundle so far. Relies a lot on upgrades but unlike Low G Man and Isolated Warrior you get no health bar. One hit and your weapon, speed, barrier and bombs are all gone. Spent so much time inching through with the basic peashooter and cursing aplenty. The higher difficulty settings will completely throw you off balance by introducing brand new enemies with vicious attacks. Not sure I'm going to best the other three levels. I still like it though.
This game. Although I have beaten this game. Good luck getting an ending.Because you've got to beat it Unhard, and I know no one who can do that. In the final boss, there's nothing but a bullet sponge. It's like a 4 minute fight. I couldn't imagine. Frightening him on hard The ending that you get for beating the game is basically trie it on hard mode.
@@BigOleWords Lol not so young anymore and i have to add, im shocked i managed it given how little i understood about the game I was playing. Watching this has shown me things i didn't understand at the time.
2:38 the top-view levels had a kind of fortress you could eventually find and had to destroy.
The location of the fortress relative to the character is shown on the stage intro screen.

Back then we played hours on days out of it and we called it ‘Bur RAY’ fighter
I like Bur Ray!
This is the only game I ever completed on every difficulty setting. I thought I was done with the hardest setting but that then unlocked the ultimate difficulty, and I was obsessed - I had to complete it, and I did. Brutal hard but I did it. Strangely addictive game.
This game was awesome! I used to play this all the time. I also loved Wrath of the Black Mamba, even though everybody hates that :-P
I think a lot of people loved Black Manta!
My big brother used to play this game an awful lot. He became really good at it, but never managed to complete the last stage as far as I remember. It brings a lot of memories! A great game that was indeed overlooked!
Nice! Yeah it’s super fun.
I played this..found it when I was kid at a yard sale and asked my dad to buy it for me..great game
Nice, solid yard sale find!

KID has probably the best unknown library of games on the NES along with Natsume. All of them good or at least kinda interesting. And thanks!

Both solid shooters!
At first it looks like Section Z (inspired can we say?), but the gameplay you show takes over by its own. Nice video
Similar in movement for sure just without the diverging paths :)
1:30 S improves your movement Speed.
I always thought this was the NES port for SPACE HARRIER 😂
That would be pretty rad!
this does look like a great game!! showcasing these different games like this realy sheds light on some real must have titles. unrelated, natsume best developer.
I think every game deserves some spotlight for sure, even a brief one :). Natsume rules!

Huh, that makes more sense! Seriously I could not figure out what was happening there.
I gotta 99 problems but having a cheat code for 99 lives ain't one of them.

Nice! And same! Still I probably owned this for 10 years before I actually played it, that's just how silly my collecting habit was.
If you loved this game you have to play Battlemania daiginjou for sega genesis, ability to shoot in all 8 directions, challenging but more balanced and forgiving with great music, feels like an evolution of sorts.
I’ll check it out!
i wondered as a kid why this nes game had better graphics than earlier nes games
Wizardry!
Yup, I always considered this sort of a gem. Good music and fair without feeling cheap like most shooters.
Man I had this game when was I kid and I almost beat once but that damn last dragon boss was just too much for my little 9 year ass, now even if I can replay it I think I'm too old to deal with its difficulty XD
Have Section Z and Abadox, and I enjoy those (to an extent), but never played this one. Awesome review dude!
Those are both solid contemporaries of Burai Fighter, the aesthetics of Abadox and the direction shifting of Section Z.
Love this and abadox!
@@gjergjaurelius9798 Abadox rules!
Its one of my First games on the nes
I realy Like IT and the Musik ist still in my head
Nice!
This is one of my favorite shooters on the NES. It’s stupid hard though, just like all the other shooters.
Great minds think alike!

A Great shooter that I've always liked and my friends thought otherwise. Still have to beat the hardest difficulty.
I was surprised myself but yeah Burai Fighter rules!
Lol hearing David say “check this shit out” made me want to watch immediately
Yes!
This was my mom's favorite game, and her sister's and her brother's. It seem liked everyone I knew was playing this game when I was a kid.
Im impressed that they were all into this obscure shooter!
@@BigOleWords They all just really loved this game. My aunt beat this game on Ultimate level so my mom had to beat it on Ultimate too.
Lol I loved playing burai fighter lol
IIRC Burai is the name of the enemy you're fighting against. I don't think the MC has a name, unless it's in the manual somewhere
Huh had no idea!

I don't think I've played this but man I'm impressed with the gaming experience I'm seeing here. Great quality video and commentary as always!
It’s a solid game for sure!
That’s why this show is so cool, another gem I’ve somehow never played, appreciate your work!
Thanks so much, I appreciate you watching!
I really like the stage animation at 0:50.
Hell yeah!
I played quite a bit of Burai Fighter on the Gameboy. Its pretty straightforward. Finished it on the hardest setting eventually.
This was like one of the 4 games i had when growing up. I loved how easy the password system was
This would be a good one to have as a kid!
Awesome. Never heard of this one before. Looks pretty great!
It’s a good one!
This was the first game I ever bought for my NES
I think the S increases your speed
Like your shooting speed or your flying speed?
love this game, very under rated and under appreciated.
Most definitely
no reference to S C A T?
I guess it does kind of resemble SCAT, both in appearance and in the shifting directions. Nice!
