  • Bohol Blitz: Ferry, Falls, and Fascinating Creatures
The Cebu ferry terminal was buzzing with activity and a bit confusing, but we managed. You need to buy tickets, then pass through another entrance and pay a tax, it’s all kind of confusing, especially at the butt-crack of dawn, but we eventually boarded on the first ferry to Bohol. We sat on the top of the boat, which is exposed but covered, so it’s nice to have the fresh sea breeze and views (it’s not fun up there when it rains FYI). The ferry wasn’t full, and we wanted to be up in the open air and there were only a few passengers relaxed around us. The ferry ride was a breeze, literally. There are people everywhere to assist you in transportation once you disembark the ferry. We rented a scooter and headed to our hotel...in the rain!
The next day, we met some really nice local friends, and they took us on a day trip to Camugao Falls - a hidden gem nestled in the jungle. It’s a short trek to the falls and once we came to the clearing, we were met with a breathtaking sight - crystal-clear water plunging into a cool pool below. It was a perfect day with lunch, a few drinks and lots of swimming.
Next up were the iconic Chocolate Hills. These are some crazy, dome-shaped mounds, turning chocolate brown in the dry season. Climbing the stairs to the platform, we took in the panoramic views, snapping photos to capture the unique landscape.
A trip through the Bilar Man-Made Forest in Bohol is a sight to behold. This two-kilometer stretch of dense mahogany trees is a testament to successful reforestation efforts on the island. Planted in the early 20th century to address soil erosion and deforestation, the Bilar Man-Made Forest has become a popular tourist destination. As you travel through the forest, the dense canopy overhead creates a cool and refreshing atmosphere, especially during the hot season.
As the day wore on, we visited the Bilar Tarsier Conservatory. The conservatory is a bit chaotic and there are many tourists. I don’t think we picked the right time of day, so maybe read more reviews on this if you want to see.
The Enigmatic Tarsiers: Here are some Quick Fun Facts about the primates:
Tarsiers are among the world’s smallest primates, typically measuring 3 to 6 inches long.
They have large, round eyes that allow them to see in the dark, which is vital as they are nocturnal creatures.
Tarsiers are endemic to Southeast Asia, with Philippine tarsiers being a distinct subspecies.
They are carnivorous, primarily feeding on insects.
The IUCN has classified the Philippine tarsier as “near threatened,” emphasizing the importance of conservation efforts.
Here are some of the places we stayed while on Bohol:
Very clean and friendly places (close to the town/beach) we found on Booking.com.
    Alona WhiteHouses Resort (US$62)
    Scent of Green Papaya (US$58)
