Trying to upright capsized fishing boat

while passing Sri Lanka a fleet of fishing boats approached us and asked for help
this video is a re-upload of a previous one, I had to remove the Sri Lankan music due to a copyright claim.

- You are very welcome. On that ship we had a few Sri Lankan crew and officers on board who could understand what the fisherman wanted, otherwise we would not have understood what they want from us, they could not speak English.
- Initially I had some old Sri Lankan music playing in the background but unfortunately RUclips claimed a copyright violation and I had to remove the music.

instead of putting rope around the whole hull they should have put them on one side of the railings on the flipped boat, then winched it with it close to the ship you were on, im no expert but physics laws..

I'm trying to picture what you're saying. you're saying on the same side of the ship and lift? I don't think the railings (if even present) would have been strong enough for that. Maybe cleats would work? They way they were attempting would make it roll towards the ship which would be putting it in unnecessary risk of damage. Even your way might put it at risk of danger if the structure of it is too tall. From looks, it looked like nobody's life was in danger so waiting for experts or towing it like others have suggested would be best. The way attempted here could have worked if 2 other boats tied off on either end of the vessel to provide some more resistance, but I'm not sure how strong their equipment was. Might have been more dangerous.

@@acephantom903 - yeah, one line goes over the boat, the other goes under the boat and is pulled in the other direction. Fishermen often capsize due to overloading, so if he lost his cargo he might have been ok. And I don't think some damage to the superstructure would have mattered a lot at that point.

Even if righting it had been successful, it probably would have capsized again immediately. It would have required numerous bilge pumps and hand baling to give it a chance. Probably would have been advisable to tow it to a safe harbor and deal with it there.

We did not think about that but you are right, it could have tipped over again. We had to continue our voyage so we don't know what happened after that but most likely they pulled it into the harbour.

No, it did not. Those fishers were not able to tie the rope properly at the side or center under water which would have turned the boat out of the water when we pulled. To tie the rope all around the boat was useless. It pulled the boat only to us but did not turn it.
