His creativity was at the highest point on that day. In terms of vision, he made the rest of the players look like amateurs, making instant, ever so clever, forward-moving passing decisions. The equivalent of wit in intellectual spheres (no pun intended). He did not retreat as he sometimes did in other games by opting for backward safer passes. In terms of sheer beauty, he displayed arguably the most sublimely beautifully artistic performance in the history of football. Every movement of his body was choreographed to maximize what could only be described as ballet-like aesthetic pleasure. This performance will live in eternity as a timeless work of art as long as people play the sport. Beckenbauer loved beauty. It's manifest even if he never admitted it himself. He was in his own world that day.

Xavi is 100 times more press resistant. Defenders don't have to play through the press and Xavi had the best vision ever. Ronald Koeman would be a better comparison.

@2:45 2 v 1 obviously the game was much, much slower then but regardless, he shows his smarts by not being too aggressive and simply defending the space, which delays the attack. Any defender in that situation, will tell you that they prefer the ball going out wide, which creates a tighter angle. His leadership, calmness and positional awareness are incredible and those are just his intangibles.
