    After watching your video many times, my concepts are now crystal clear. You have demonstrated each and every nook and corner of the torque sensor very well. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy day to make such a nice video. Thank you very much and keep the things coming.
    I was working on a Honda Civic 2013. The problem was that the car was pulling all the way to the right side very aggressively which was entirely difficult to hold down on a straight ahead position. Your video helped me to find out the position of the torque sensor slip ring or slider which was displaced from its position. The reason behind it was that somebody mistakenly placed a washer under the pinion which was lifted up and so the slip ring lost its position. Thanks for your video.

    Real informative! I’m having an issue in my 2002 S2K where I’ll sometimes have lots of resistance when parked and turning the wheel to the right (left turns fine) once I begin driving it regulates itself. Sometimes if I turn the steering wheel left and right to show the resistance in turning, the steering wheel will shake violently until you place a hand on it to stop it. It happens more so often in cold weather. I’m thinking my torque sensor is faulty.

    Fortunately, this seems very similar to my civic. Unfortunately then, I can't take it apart the way I had hoped. At least this video will stop me from trying! I've already wasted enough time trying to push that pin out. So thank you for the info

    • @winreboot
      @winreboot  2 года назад

      yea, that pin is impossible to remove, and it's so easy to destroy the crown around it. I used once dry ice and it went out after long struggle but I would not suggest it to anyone. Better just replace the whole assembly.

    • @peepiepo
      @peepiepo 2 года назад +1

      @@winreboot It wouldn't have helped anyway. I had hoped that if I got that off then the whole shaft would be able to slip though the bearing but it looks like that's not the case. On the civic the gearing for the eps motor (another plastic against metal combo) is part of this assembly which is what I was trying to get apart, but I can see it's got that machine crimped ring holding the main plastic gear in. A simple circlip would have been nice.

    Very helpful video. Had an issue about a year ago and after watching another youtube video I shot some electrical contact cleaner and lube under the tight seal on the shaft and it seemed to work but I would like to use the urea grease as you suggest on the slip ring. At 13:07 you say don't take it apart unless you can calibrate. Not sure what you're talking about there ... can I take the outer black cover off exposing the slip ring without recalibrating? Thanks :)

    • @winreboot
      @winreboot  3 года назад +4

      Yes, you can remove the plastic out to lubricate it. I'm referring to removing the pin from the shaft. You will be fine with removing the plastic and adding urea grease, that is the best that you can do to it, and fixes most issues. The original grease dries up over time.

    Goodday mister, i have a question if the Torque Sensor is damage is it possible that my eps is not working. I've checked everything steering rack also still functional. Help me please

    • @winreboot
      @winreboot  Месяц назад

      Hi, when you say everything is functional, does this mean that the EPS is working fine but has some difference in assisting from left to right? For example one side is lighter to turn then the other? But Yes, you can replace the Torque sensor assembly and see if that helps. I would not replace just the sensor as the issue is mostly in slip ring and that is on the assembly itself, so the best is to replace with whole torque sensor assembly. It's hold by 3 screws, easy to replace just hard to find parts those days.

    Hi,
    I did RHD to LHD convertion but did not change electronics, however I had to change the steering rack. I does not eccept the torque converter, I opened the unit from the two bolts but can not change it (it does not fit an possible I have to disasemble the unit).
    I had a look on the diagram and it looks that it readding from one side of the sensor.
    IF I JUST SWAP SIDES on the torque connector LOGICLY SHOULD WORK...OR ????
    Please let me know if it makes sense to you!
    Thanks!

  • @mgabrielle2343
    @mgabrielle2343 3 года назад +1

    interesting, the weakest part of this design is the plastic brown part which slides up and down to give the steering module electrical signals to respond and drive the steering motor. So its not entirely solid state electronics, there are moving parts, hence its reliability is very poor. They should use another non-mechanical method, one such method can be a photo beam, with two photo sensors, whereby both sensors output an equal voltage when steering is in center position, as soon as it is turned, the torsion bar twists, and one photo sensor receives more light and the other less, this voltage can be used to control the motor drive circuit.

    • @winreboot
      @winreboot  3 года назад

      Yea, I agree. I would think honda engineers would design something better then this. This part is set to fail over time when used as intended. With some extra lubrication it can extend the life of it for sure, but it's plastic on metal.

    My S2k is getting a stiff steering on the Right and soft to left on cold start. After driving and heats up it normalizes. My car is RHD. Will the Torque sensor cause that or will the plug contact cause that?

    • @winreboot
      @winreboot  4 года назад +1

      This sounds like stiff grease on the slip ring. Once the grease warms up it allows the slip ring to slide better over the shaft. I think if you just clean it and reapply new grease it should fix it.

    Hi, my steering g is smooth and easy when I turn left at a stand still or moving, but when I turn right it’s quite rough (notchy) and tight wether moving or still, would this stripping and greasing do the job to fix it

    • @winreboot
      @winreboot  2 года назад +1

      Yes, def try greasing it with honda urea grease, the slip right might dry up and just need greasing. But if you still have the issue after greasing it, its most likely that the slip ring wore out and replacing the whole tourqe sensor assembly from low mileage S2000 would be the best bet.

    I have a 2002 civic (d17a5) and my EPS comes on from time to time. Code says torque sensor "voltage". Could this be due to the wiring and the sensor not earthing properly?

    • @winreboot
      @winreboot  Год назад

      If you get the error time to time, I would clean all the connectors, it's possible there is poor wire connection. If you still get error, find out what error code it is either by scan tool or count the blinks of the indicator light for EPS in service mode and reference the error code in civic shop manual. The shop manual will have the trouble codes and troubleshooting for them. I never worked with civic so just refer to shop manual for troubleshooting steps.

Only true way to see if it's good is to connect to multimeters and do the read out on the car. There is OEM tolerance for wear and tear too and most are good. Just make sure physically it's cleaned and the slip ring has enough grease.

      I'm not sure I get your question but it sounds like you have issue turning to one side is. The first step would be to lubricate the shaft under the slip ring inside the torque sensor, but to avoid removing the rack twice you might as well just replace the entire torque assembly, as the issue is most likely either the grease dry up and lubricating will fix it or the slip ring worn out and even if you lubricate it wont help and only fix is to replace entire torque assembly with low millage one.
