S2000 Header Building + Testing - Part 3

  • We wanted to test a few headers to see if and where the power changes.
We tried 5 off the shelf headers and then modified some then build 2 of our own from scratch.
There's a lot of power to be found in different RPM ranges, playing with diameter, Merge points, step points and over all length makes drastic differences.
We will make a separate video on header testing and go over the ones we tested. The headers will be for sale at a discount for those that are interested.
In Part 4 we'll get some real world driving impressions and test our car against some other S2000s and get some driver impressions for 2 of my friends that own S2000 and drive daily.
    Part 1 -
LHT S2000 NA Package - Removed the Turbo
    • LHT S2000 NA Package -...
    Part 2-

Similar RPM on the highway as my Miata with Torsen LSD. Also I’ve had a 4” rigid tube below my Integra stock airbox for over 20 years, that leads behind the turn signal, with a velocity stack on the end. Similar concept to the Comptech icebox. It’s the “BSQ DIY Icebox” mod from back in the early days of Honda-Tech.

This is prime content. I love seeing how each thing impacts power and torque.
Even after watching the videos it's probably hard to appreciate how much time went into it.
That s2000 probably holds the record for most header swaps

Thanks. I’m seriously going to change the header studs as I know they have been over used. lol. Many hours have gone in behind the scenes and I really would like to tweak further. Without changing cams etc, I’d really like to see a ligit 250.

John: Very interesting that your final header and tuning came out very close to the build you did on my white '08 AP2. Quick refreash. 205 HP bone stock on the dyno you used back then. Final peak was 242 rwhp with torque in the 150's peak. Stock 4:10 rear gears, your custom "step" header then which I believe was 1.875" to 2" with 2.5" collector and the 2.5" bypass" exhaust with magnaflow mufflers in that stainless system you built for me then. VTEC changeover with the Hondata reflash was 4,500 rpm and we used the bone stock airbox and and a K&N oiled filter. Dead reliable, very torquey. So much so you could short shift at 7k or buzz it to 8,500 which was rarely needed. NO ONE believed back then how..few changes (5) you made for those results. I was an idiot to sell THAT car. But rides I give and 360 burnouts made believers out of all who rode in or raced me. THANK YOU again. Amazing car and the F22 is marvel of Honda engineering and your LHT..touch👍.

You also had a very strong car, I believe my car is a little lazy. The gains do show pretty good on my car, but with what we’ve learned I think I could have got 250 on your car. My friend Christian also has a really strong car that may show some great gains too.
I have some more ideas in the future I may try too before going back turbo.
One day you’ll get another one Victor.

You're doing great work, John.👍🏼 I'm sure this answers a lot of questions S2000 owners have had for years. Having access to all those different headers and the ability to go through all the various setups is so time-consuming and cost prohibitive, the average guy couldn't possibly do it, so I think it's awesome that you're putting in so much time and effort to take one for the team.👏 I like your scientific approach of documenting the results and real-world testing for all to see. Speaking of scientific... that bit around 13:36 is the best! I remember that guy from back in the day.😅 Love it. Cheers, buddy!

@@LHTPerformance tickets are not fun at all… loved in California for a brief time and got pulled over and ticketed for everything… intake, exhaust, tint, being lowered etc. was so annoying however living in northern Arizona and now in Nebraska they don’t ever pull you over for modifications and also no smog so it’s very nice enjoying the freedom of having a custom car. I would definitely love to see more dyno experiments and tweaking to find what works best. Not sure if you’ve ever seen the youtube videos engine masters, while v8 platforms for mostly classic cars there is a ton of cool videos there, would live to see some s2000/Honda videos like that. Thanks for all you and the LHT team do. I have the URGE produced Gernby scavenger exhaust. Its claim to fame sounds similar to the header you have developed, massive scavenging effect in the midrange without sacrificing top end. One thing their testing showed is a minimal gain with any header, I am curious if you think your scavenging header and the gernby exhaust combo could make even more midrange power.

I have seen some N/A Spoon and Mugen S2K's on ITB's, Hondata, wild ass cams, etc. make like 300whp N/A but again 8-10K of mods/work. I do appreciate show the subtle differences in tuning the F20/F22.
