I've been extremely happy with my ultra 106sv! The 106sv has high pixel density than the 12" model so it has the clearest image besides jumping all way up to an 8600, which is top of line. Between sales with Garmin, bass pro, Cabela's, coupon codes I got the 10" ultra 106sv , steady cast, , lvs34 system & a 32ah 14.8v amped outdoors lithium battery all for just under 2600! I got everything individual but all between this past December & February. That's cheaper then a 10" unit by itself from Lowrance & hummingbird. The side imaging is as good as others brands. Russell marine has side by side comparisons of all brands for anyone that is looking into buying a unit. Then u can decide for yourself. Can't go wrong with any brand but for prices I paid I say Garmin all the way. Killer set up on my Hobbie PA12-360 kayak!
Just bought a 106sv, got it linked to my older 93 PLUS model (not UHD) up front and was expecting a huge difference (image quality) between the units. But not. Haven't changed the factory settings on the 106sv but would have expected factory would be more than sufficient. Don't know if I'm disappointed with the 106 or impressed with the 93? Both I guess!
I suggest getting a sunshade! It makes a huge difference on sunny day. Plus it's little extra protection for your screen, like a shield from swinging lures. I got the RipaLip 10" sunshade for mine while ago. Way better that those plastic ones. It's not exspensive at all. Also folds down when you're not using it like a screen cover. It also can be taken on & off in a few seconds. You can make it right as you want it to wind could never blow it off. Check it out I won't be disappointed.
Great timing! I'm tryin to decide which one of these I want for my rig. Was somewhat settled on the 93SV UHD2 till I saw yer vid on the 106SV at $1k. I'm curious how the comparison would be between those outside of the obvious. I'm fishing fairly deep reservoirs in central NC. My priority is pokin around seeing what's down below and catfishing. Thanks! d:^)
I would personally (and I did) go with the bigger screen 106sv Ultra. I haven’t seen enough difference in the new UHD2 models to warrant paying more $$ for a smaller screen. Granted it would come with the GT56, but you can always buy that separately if you really wanted it (see my latest video). Good luck!
As they are roughly the same price, I’d personally go with the Ultra, but it’s really up to you. They are very similar units with the main differences being screen size and the transducer (assuming you go with the $999 Ultra).
In that case I’d start with resetting it to factory settings. Do they show up in simulator mode? And not sure it matters, but do you know what transducer is on the boat?
The 106sv and above come preloaded with the G3 Ultra charts and already have 1 foot contours where they are available. Garmin’s website has a graph that shows what charts are compatible with what units though if you wanted to upgrade from there.
Just got one from cabelas and the screen flickers when in Clearvu and sidevu. I'm in simulator mode at 12.5 v from a Optima battery. Is it normal. I don't recall seeing it flicker in the store. It's not the entire screen. Just the black/dark sides and bottom when transitioning to the color pallet
I've never seen any of mine (or others for that matter) flicker. I'm not sure what you mean by "transitioning to the color pallet" though. If it keeps doing it, I'd take it back and see if it does it on their display power source. They will usually be happy to let you plug yours in where they have the display plugged in. Could help you narrow down the issue. Or just have them swap it out if it's brand new. Just not sure it's the unit, and if it's not then that won't help. Good Luck!
Sorry for posting a comment this late, but with the new blackfriday sails, I wanted to know if this unit (ultra 106sv + gt54) came with Canadian freshwater maps? I can't find any informations anywhere thanks
According to Garmin’s website, the preloaded maps cover “western Canada.” www.garmin.com/en-US/p/626318. Scroll down to the preloaded charts section. Hope that helps.
Hello Can you advise me what echo sounder to buy, I am thinking about: LOWRANCE ELITE 9 FS or Garmin ECHOMAP™ Ultra 102sv with GT56UHD-TM transducer Which one is better, can you advise me?
Either is good, but the 102sv doesn’t come with detailed maps. The 106sv would be a better choice since it comes with both lake and coastal maps. The 102 only has a worldwide basic map. I like Garmin better than Lowrance, but the FS9 is still good. Sorry that isn’t much help lol.
Anyone disappointed with the lake mapping? Compared to my last boat with HB graphs & Lake Master chips, these g3 maps are not even close on my natural lakes.
Wouldn’t you agree it’s unfair to compare Lakemaster chips, which is an upgrade you have to buy, to standard mapping that comes preloaded? I think comparing Lakemaster to the Navionics Vision mapping would be a fairer comparison, or comparing HB’s standard, non Lakemaster, to these.
@@InstinctBassin All good points. I thought the g3 maps would be close to the Lakemaster in accuracy. However, it's (Garmin's g3) far superior to the preloaded HB base map, you absolutely need to buy the chip for any kind of mapping. I'll have to look into the Vision chip. Thanks!
@@patrickcotter945 Blue charts are for coastal areas/saltwater. The ultra units come with the G3 Ultra version for both lakes and coastal regions. Blue chart would be a waste of money since it already has them preloaded. If you want to upgrade the Ultra version, then Vision or Vision Plus would be your best bet.
Very nice video, i´m a Saltwater fisherman e i realy need the GT56 transducer and i´m in doubt between paying $900 bucks on a 93 sv or $1400 on a 106 sv. What do you think that is best for the money?
If I were you I would buy the 106sv with the GT54 for $999, then buy a GT56 separately. Then sell the GT54 for $100-150. Also, you don’t want the 93SV for saltwater, since it comes with lake maps. You’d either need the 94SV or better yet, the 106SV that comes with both Lake and Coastal maps.
@@InstinctBassin Where I live nobody would buy the GT54, it is very hard to sell, and i don´t care too much about the maps because i will use Navionics in other divice, only the fish finder. What do you think?
Up to you, but they sell on FB marketplace all the time. It’s just cheaper than buying the 106 with the 56 already included. Check out my video on saving $$$ while buying the 106sv. Good luck 👍

Yes that is correct. The newer UHD2s are similar in specs to the Ultra units like the 106.
