Dude, this video is ace. I play in a history of blues show at the edinburgh fringe festival every year and this year we are doing a a pop medley to show off how the blues gets everywhere. Anyway, we are doing this tune and I've been trying to find a way to get the bass in (at the bands request, tbh I'd rather just stay true to the original track). This video has given me the tools I need to keep the band happy and not over play on the song for no good reason. Great stuff!
MORE PRINCE PLEASE ! I love him. He was my biggest inspiration and whatever I write here is just not appropriate to express what I feel when I just think about him and his music... so please more Prince, more analyse and all that stuff. I love analyse his music but I'm interesting how it's your POV on his music and his legend. Anyway thanks :)
I really like the differing perspectives/mini history lesson you present on this tune, both because of the points you make about space and groove and because they illustrate that there's more than one valid way to approach it. If I end up playing this tune with a band, I imagine that I'll play my own line, but it will be informed by the lines and ideas that you presented here (and I'll go back and listen to a few different recordings of it). Thanks for taking the time to post this.
Hi Blyss, love your videos. And Prince is the reason I fell in love with the Bass! Can you please do one on "Get it Up, The Stick, Call My Name and Do Me Baby" sometime this year?? I heard all those songs live in concert and they are funky as hell. And thank you for doing what you do!
You're right. Musicians often play too much. In addition, there are songs and artists we better should not cover in top 40 bands:. Prince, Michael Jackson, Elvis. . . they were all very special and unique. To study bass lines like I want you back, Jackson 5 or Lets work, Prince, Suspicious Minds, Elvis is great and very helpful. But to pay tibute to their legacy we better dont cover them except for we are in a briliant TOP 40 band ;-)
hang tight I'll tell you.. I gotta find the site again. I could just upload it somewhere but their selling loops an stuff so I wanna let them do their thing ...here ya go. Had to find it www.karaoke-version.com/drums-backing-track/prince/kiss.html
5 years ago, still relevant. I'm checking this out today and funny thing. I'm slapping with flatwounds too. And! I know D.A. but, I'm using MAGMA flats. Because, D.A. doesn't keep up. I guess the P-Demic was P-Rivate. Music is language, Let's Talk. Mark Anthony San Francisco/New York
Sounds exactly like Maze & Frankie Beverly bass line. Who cares tho, its funky. And that is a funkey tune. If Mono has covered it then its funk. Not to deviate from the poetic justice of paying mad respects to the man, the myth, the legend but if you get a chance can you do a lesson on Madonna's Papa Don't Preach? I kno, i know ... its cheese but I like cheese. It goes well with my whine. Great lesson as always. I made a tiny donation to the cause. Mad respect and thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm a sound man by trade and if I had a quarter for every time I've heard Kiss butchered ..... ooo lawd. Muso's! Pay attention to the acronym! Keep it simple, silly.
Nice picture of Prince , nice groove , much thanks.
Happy New Year 2017

Thanks. I do not have a problem with buying loops and products from good folks. We have to support each other.
Thank you Blyss! I'm cool with downloading it legitimately. As basic as it is the drum track has a nice feel/sound
