Thank you so much for your clear explanation with the multi meter checking the connectors! Because of you I fixed my 35hp johnson. I had a faulty wire, put it back correctly in the connector and worked started again. I tried almost everything 😂❤
Excellent explanation. I’ve been working on a 94’ evinrude 40 no spark. In the end, cleaning all ignition grounds cured my ‘no spark’ issues. Thanks for running thru diagnostics!
Great video, I am trying to diagnose a missing spark on top cylinder of a 1979 evinrude 6hp. I have worked on pre-1979 OMC points/condenser models before but this is exactly what I needed to check the CD ignition parts. Thanks
Great diagnostics! the CDI is a tricky one to test but you got it down to the last ignition component. Aside from the spark plugs. A good score on the motor, they were dam good👍 Thanks for the tour✌
Hello from Nova Scotia i seen your sticker on Grampies workshop .I stopped by your channel to check it out .Great job on checking out the coils new sub here
Unfortunately didn't find this video until after replacing my power pack unnecessarily, but I'm glad I found it before I threw more parts at it! 79 Johnson 15hp rope pull, no spark after sitting over last winter. Getting no ohm reading off of my trigger so I'm guessing that's my issue. I even cut the insulation to check further up the wires and ensure it wasn't a connection issue, but it still won't read. Charge coil reads 600 ohms, power pack is new, and both ignition coils read good.
@@LewisMowersandBoatsthanks for the reply! Kill switch is good, that was one of the first things I checked. No continuity normally, continuity when pressed.
The long way around the barn but you made it ! lol . The first thing i check is the CDI and if ones getting spark and the other isnt then it could be a coil . If both are dead then its the CDI , and yes the 79 is the first year without low tension points , 1974 - 1978 points 1979 - 1984 CDI 1985 - up new system . more times then any its the kill button . thats a clean looking outboard , i have 4 and dont want to get rid of them at all ! lmao. The 9.9 in those years are nice also but i convert those to 15hp. ( both are 22c.i. blocks ) > your channel is coming around nicely !
El sistema de platinos en rsa serie de motores estuvo en funcionamiento hasta el año 1976, siendo reemplazado por cdi o power pack, en 1977 en adelante. Excelentes motores, indestructibles. Saludos.
An auto ranging multimeter with DVA adapter is a most useful too for trouble shooting CDI alternator driven ignitions. I have an analog meter that has DVA. CDI (the company) has the data and specs for all Outboards that at one time was a free download. Comes at a cost now..
Great video! I had one coil quit sparking so I replaced the power pack and everything started working. Not long after I lost all spark on the water... Could a new powerpack just go bad? the coils and the stater read good on the multimeter.
Looking forward to part two. I have this exact issue with my 1978 9.9 Johnson. I appreciate the ohm numbers! So far everything is in spec like this motor is.

Hello 👋 We are very happy you were able to get it back working again 😀 thanks for watching and welcome to the show 👊
Great job. Very well explained!
Thank you! I tried to explain everything. Sometimes I get it all Sometimes I don't 🤣🤣

No problem Dave glad I can help 👍 and welcome to the show 😀

Another excellent outboard motor video Brock hard to believe this has not picked you up more subscribers
Thanks brother Wayne it will happen soon 🙏 I appreciate ya buddy

I appreciate that brother 🙏 💯
No problem thank you for the support 🙏
Ok I just got my lesson for the day much appreciated ! Its electrical stuff I know nothing about so awesome 👏👏
Thanks brother Bill I appreciate ya 🙏 💯
Great job diagnosing the electrical system brother 🔧👍
Thanks brother next is to see if we have spark 😀
Great video
Thanks brother 🙏
Nice work checking things. Look forward to the next one and seeing it run. Great video
Thanks brother I appreciate that 🙏 💯

Go after the ground next 😊

Nope, 77 and newer had cdi ignition

Hello 😀 and welcome to the show. Thanks so much for that information.
always have to verify the grounds are solid too..
Yes good thinking 🤔 and welcome to the show 😀 👍
How's she goin'? This is a good description of how to trouible shoot the coils. Thanks for sharing. Take 'er easy!!
I appreciate that Mike 🙏 💯
Great video @Lewis. I have a 7.5 Johnson seahorse and am curious if the specs are the same? - it won't start.
What year is it ?
@@LewisMowersandBoats I have to check the serial number - I get back to you.

As far as I can see on the scratched plate,
Where did you get the testing ranges for the coil, plug wires, triger, and the stator electronics.
All in the repair manual thanks for watching I appreciate it 😊 🙏
Do you have one with trouble ?
Great video! I had one coil quit sparking so I replaced the power pack and everything started working. Not long after I lost all spark on the water... Could a new powerpack just go bad? the coils and the stater read good on the multimeter.
Yes sometimes new ones go bad from getting too hot from the sun and sometimes they just quit working thanks for watching 😀
Hey Brock. I have a muti meter but the only thing ive ever tested was a battery haha. Im no good at that electrical stuff. Your smart bro.
Kenny
😂😂😂 I'm here to help brother Kenny 😊 thanks for the love buddy

No problem brother 🙏 part 2 is coming up soon I ordered the part its on its way 😎
How do you check the CDI box with the voltmeter?
Unfortunately the cdi can't be checked on one .you have to check everything around it .I hope this helps you. Thanks for watching 😊
Im getting a reading on the kill???
Hello 👋 and welcome to the show 😊 the kill maybe stuck. Try to disconnect it and see if you have spark or not.
Did this ever run?
Yes in part 2 and in part 3 we put it in the water thanks for watching and welcome to the show 😀
