    Super thorough and helpful for general trouble-shooting even for a noob like me. Great content!

    This video is on point. Thanks for the great footage. I have the same generation motor but in 35hp and had to go through it very similar to what you are doing here. I have electric start and pull start. My motor is missing the pull start assembly. Whole motor came from a junk pile and I brought it back to life

    I'm late to this video (my comment)... Every coil I've ever tested where there is a spinning magnet, produces AC voltage. your meter is set to DC voltage. If your manual says set to DC, you did fine. I didn't see that in the manual when you posted the picture.

      25 and 20 hp basically the same right ?

      @@crosstmandogman5027 Yes, that is correct. The carb is a little different, and there might be some other small differences, however I cannot remember them off the top of my head.

      @@EricGaskamp thanks man. Ya I have the 20 hp model of this motor. Was running kind of rough but used seafoam to clean things up and ran way better. Never taken a carb off to clean before so these videos help. I'll try later this season and see how she runs.

    Changed my powerpack and coils on my 98 johnson 25hp. Ran for 15mins and lost spark again. Motor is a project I bought non running. Stator apparently is from 77 to 83 so I dont have the charge coils and different assemblies. A and D on plug are 450 ohms. Stator looks old and magnets aren't pretty by any means. I have 3 yellow wires off of mine. Reading bounces around on those around .5 to 1 at most. Any ideas?

    • @EricGaskamp
      @EricGaskamp  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching! I would first start with comparing the part numbers from what your 98 is supposed to have as opposed to the one that is on your engine now from the older year range. If the part numbers are different, more than likely there are some small differences with could give you the issues you're having. Also make sure all the magnets are there and are clean. Do the same with the stator assembly as well. Where did you get the power pack from? Was it new, or a reman? Also ebay ones can go bad very quick or be bad straight out of the box. I hope this helps!!

    When removing the flywheel to change charge coil how do I make sure motor stays in time ?

    • @EricGaskamp

      The flywheel is slotted so it will only go on one way if I remember correctly. Thank you for watching!

    Just watched your video series on this motor.I made a video on lost spark on my 20hp Johnson.Almost ordered a power pack.I lost all spark after it ran great.Turns out it was just the ground for the power pack.Bolt going thru power pack also had the ground wire mounted behind it to the block.CleAned block and wire connector and all spark came back..Maybe your original power pack was good and you,lost ground like I did..Been about three years and still working.Watch my video.

      Finally, another Astros fan!! Thanks for watching. Check the flywheel to make sure your magnets are in place. They have been known to come off which would lead to a no spark condition. Are those spark plugs the one that the factory calls for? If the plugs are too long they can make contact with the piston causing the engine not to turn over. I hope this helps some!

    I got a reading of 573 ohms on my charge coils following your steps. Same motor. I have no spark. Coils and power packs are good because I switched it with other motor and sparked. Thing is, I had no spark before on this same motor, changed charge coils and got spark, no no spark again with this reading I mentioned above. If im having the same problem (charge coils) what could be ruing my charge coils back to back?

    • @EricGaskamp
      @EricGaskamp  2 года назад +1

      Hey there and thank you for watching! I'm sorry about the delayed response. Is there any kind of indication they are striking the flywheel magnets? Even a little bit can really mess with the charge coils. Also did you replace the charge coils with brand new? Its possible the new one could be defective as well. I've seen it happen on more than one occasion.

      @@EricGaskamp thanks for the reply. Lose plan disc under ignition components. Lose/worn out fuel pump outer rubber O-ring. Fixed those and it’s been having consistent spark with no dying from fuel shortage.
