    It’s not just his voice, it’s the stories in his song’s. The Preacher died but the Hooker lived and taught her son religion from the Bible the Preacher gave her. The Preacher at the end was the Hookers Son. Just in case some people don’t catch that.😉👍🏻😊

      Brad I agree. His voice is great, but it’s his story telling that really steals the show. There are to many reaction videos out there that focus on the sound and not the message. It’s a missed opportunity here for sure.

    After a stellar career in country music, Randy had a stroke. He was later awarded a lifetime achievement award at the CMA's. Every singer who gets this award is always asked to sing one of their hits. When Randy had the stroke, it left his speech impaired so there were many country singers on stage to sing with him. When the presenter asked what should they sing. He didn't name any of his many, many hits. He said the song that means the most to him was Amazing Grace. I tried to sing along but I couldn't stop crying hearing him say that beautiful old hymn was a song that meant more to him than all of his own songs. It was beautiful to watch.

    In 2013, Randy Travis had a massive stroke that almost killed him. He's still recovering. He can't sing like he use to.

    • @AClRCLEOFLlGHT
      @AClRCLEOFLlGHT 4 года назад +4

      But he can still sing, and he's gotten a lot of his vocal control back. Hard to do when your stoke is so bad you're left with sever brain damage. At first, he couldn't even sing in tune, which was heartbreaking to hear a man who had such an amazing and beautiful voice, lose what made him so unique. Travis has had a very bad past and made huge mistakes. A severe alcoholic, he was arrested not that long ago when cops found him walking around outside, completely naked, after crashing his car. He asked the police to take him home, and then threatened to have the cops killed while riding in the car. For a religious person, it's a wake up call. To believe God took his gift because he wouldn't live right, but spared him his life to give him 1 last opportunity to change.

      @@TOOSUSHI Did you notice that it was the hooker who lived? As the preacher was dying, he gave his bloodstained bible to her. When the hooker had a son, she read the bible to him and he grew up to become a preacher himself, and as stated in the lyrics, he's the one who told the story "last Sunday" to his congregation. I think the idea of the song has to to with how judgmental people are. Most people would probably think that out of the 4 people on the bus, the hooker would be the last one who deserved to live. But that bible changed her life, and because of her, now her son is changing the lives of all the people in his congregation. Great song. I know it can be easy for people to miss that, especially the first time they listen to it.

She had grown up in the 40’s and loved music, this was the one song I’d sing that she loved the most, always enjoyed the story. I remember when she died I was asked if I would play a song at her funeral and I chose this one. I swore I wouldn’t have any problems getting through it as SOON as I sang the first word I broke down and literally sobbed through the whole song, my family helped me sing the rest. I'm a huge Randy Travis fan as you will discover rather quickly by this lengthy comment. I , have seen him in concert 16 times during his career. You nailed it when you described his voice as "pure", Perfect pitch no matter the song.
    Randy saved Country music at the time he came on the scene. Traditional country was fading out, due to the movie Urban Cowboy. Many artists that were being heard were doing what is called pop country. Pretty much what they have reverted back to over the last couple of decades.
    During his career Randy won 8 Grammy's and 7 Dove awards. Just go to his channel here on RUclips. You will find his full catolog of his material. He has sold over 25 million albums world wide. And I'm sure more than that. Because much of the time when he was selling out venues at a record speed (mid to late 80's early 90's) they didn't really keep track of album sales, the way they have since. Randy's first 3 albums went Platinum multiple times. Thats' how his voice affected listeners. And as you just iterated still does today. His music/voice is timeless.
    Some you might want to check out is Promises, He Walked On Water, Forever and Ever Amen, The Box, This is Me, Deeper Then The Holler, Spirit of a Boy (Wisdom of a Man) , Look Heart No Hands, Hard Rock Bottom of your Heart, Forever Together, Honky Tonk Moon, You and You Alone, Easy to Love You, Just a Matter of Time, Sorms of Life, 1982, The Reasns I Cheat. Everything and All, Point of Light, A Place to Hang My Hat, Pick up Your Oars and Row. The Storms of Life, Faith In You, On The Other Hand, I Told You So. As you can see the list is quite extensive.
    He put out 5 gospel / inspirational albums. My favorite of those albums (Worship ad Faith) is loaded with great ole fashion hymns, that everyone knows. His two country gospel albums. Rise and Shine, and Shallow Water, has some great original songs too. Raise Him Up , Baptism ( also one of my favorites) on Rise and Shine. Don't Ever Sell Your Saddle ( saddle being your soul). A fun song Pray for The Fish, I woud love for you to give some of these a spin, and hear your thoughts on them. I really appreciated your opinion. I've listened to others who have given Randy's 3 Wooden Crosses a listen , and only one other person mentioned how the song and his delivery of it with his voice really drew her into the songs story.

    The best description I can think of about Randy's voice is that it is "Rich Mahogany". Like others have said "On the Other Hand" is a great song, but my favorite Randy Travis songs are Promises and 8X10.

    One of Randy's greatest songs , IMHO, is "He Walked on Water".
    FWIW, I helped build Randy's gym at his home, it's built from logs.

    I heard Randy Travis live once when I worked at a casino. I was up in the rafters eating my lunch and watching the show a bit. His voice is haunting and beautiful, it radiated amongst the rafters, and was amazing.

    Randy had a stroke awhile back and is not in good health. There is a video of him and Charlie Daniels backstage somewhere. Charlie asked Randy if he could pray for him. Very moving.

    I was actually surprised that there weren’t more comments about “he lives in my town” folks here in Tioga, TX get so hung up on that. Nice guy and had some health issues... he is really pleasant to be around and the voice stands out when you hear it at the local gas stations.
