One thing that should be mentioned is that the RaC 1 community has been trying to figure out how to beat the entirety of Orxon as Clank alone. We're able to get to the Gadgetron box that you can get to as Ratchet; however, we still haven't found a way to get the Infobot as Clank.
Can Clank still buy the upgrade? Maybe that would switch around the characters, which I doubt would happen, but it's worth a shot. Also sorry for being a year late.

Hey! I just started running and I found this EXTREMELY helpful. Anyway, my main thing I want to ask about is the possibility of remaking the RaC2 and UYA movement guide. Xem's Day 1 Tutorials for UYA mentioned that some of the tech taught there wasn't in nearly as much detail as it should have been, and it's long overdue for a remake. I'm asking more so for other new runners rather than myself can have a better start. If you could do that, I would be extremely grateful. Thank you. P.S. Both you and Xem have been a huge inspiration for me to start running my 2nd favorite childhood game series! I'm proud to say that I'm on the official leaderboard now, and I want to thank you for all of the information you have provided for others and myself! I really appreciate it!
ive started learning these tricks. im still very new to it (literally started a few days ago), but one trick i learned is to practice some of the heli-pack flips and jumps like neutral cancels and ESPECIALLY mid air long jumps on the large grassland area on Novalis right at the bottom of the cliff your ship is on. the area is massive and the various obstacles are small enough to not realy get in the way but also large enough to give great practice with using the right flips in the right direction to dodge them or jump over them. also theres no pit-fall death, just water. this is easily my favorite training spot.
DC Neutral Cancel Long Lag Jump Available in R&C, R&C:UYA, and RD. Start with a long jump and slight turn less than 35 degrees and release analog stick just before neutral cancle long jump leading back into a loop of neutral cancel long jumps with or without the DC so long as the analog is neutral before landing any jump into the next. This is still possible in UYA and RD with the jet boots to start the momentum that the initial long jump gives you.
This is super useful, I can only speedrun the 2nd game and I had to figure it all out on my own, but I always found 1 to be difficult to speed run, but this guide really makes it easier to learn. Thanks!

Used to speedrun rac2 quite a lot, there aren't nearly as many movement techniques as 1 or 3. The only ones that ever really get used are the decoy jump, wrench jump and wrench climb. Decoy and wrench jumps only work on the PS3. To decoy jump, charge off a ledge and throw either a decoy or bomb from the bomb glove. This resets your jump, so you can jump, sideflip or longjump from it. Wrench jumps instead use the wrench, charge off the ledge, hold L1 and mash square. When ratchet performs a wrench swing it again resets your jump. Wrench climb uses the first person mode, go to a wall, jump and mash square. You will climb the wall due to the wrench's hit detection pushing ratchet upwards. There are some other more complicated tricks, such as poking and proxies, but if you want to go more in depth I highly recommend checking out the ratchet speedrunning discord.

My PS2 clank proxy just doesn't succeed, even if I get launched in the air it's not high enough to get to the infobot, it launches me sometimes halfway but never to the top.
@ThatRixer you have to switch the timestamps in the description, as the seeking is showing the music timestamps on the video player, instead of the movement timestamp
Since nobody watches this video for the music, can you edit the description to make the timestamps for the music not the clickable kind, just the reference-able kind? It seems to mess with the new Chapters feature on YT. Here's a screenie from my view. i.imgur.com/mZpKPCU.png
After playing Ratchet & Clank PAL on original hardware (stay away from EU Platinum, it's cursed, buy AU Platinum instead), I learned that high jump and long jump are faster.
@@IaMcRHis The "I hope that poor woman is all right!" in-game cutscene never plays. I ended up with 2 copies of that release, both have this bug. Cutting Room Floor Wiki used to have this bug listed earlier this year. I must conclude all EU Platinums have this. I have a pal in Australia, his local Platinum copy is fine.
I respect the fuck out of you for making this and even including a hand cam. I probably won't even make use of this tutorial myself, but this is a great way to get people into speedrunning.
Okay I’ve had this idea for a while but I’m not sure if it will work or not. When you start a new game + on veldin you have no ship however the courier ship is hidden in the back behind the mountains, what if you PDA backflip all the way too the ship and enter it and skip to the last planet or second last depending on weather you can load the final veldin with the boss I’ve been trying it but it’s so hard to get to the ship
yeah, ratchet series is gating your planets by giving you the coordinates at the end of the main mission, many times tied to actual mission completion, sometimes are just in the cutscene trigger...
The pyro glitch isn't pal ps3 exclusive. I've done it on ps2 against the snagglebeast. Infact i didn't even know it was a glitch when i did it. i just thought the pyrocitor did tons of damage against bosses
@@ThaRixer i will once i have the ability to. currently in the middle of moving so all that equipment is kinda all over the place. shame cuz i really wana try out some of the stuff mentioned in this vid. :( but basically i jumped up on one of the platforms next to the boss's spawn point, one of the platforms he can destroy, and i jumped off and fired the pyrocitor at him while gliding down and his health went down to the point where he put his shield up. i hope i can recreate it. might turn out to be one of those things that's possible on this version but just much more difficult to pull off
@@ThaRixer hey i have a bit of an update. i found a speedrunning FAQ from a few years back (atleast 2014 at the earliest) and it talks about the pyro glitch. it states that in all versions of the game, drek has a spot underneath of him that ignores invincibility frames, allowing the pyrocitor to deal damage every frame instead of doing damage on one frame and then drek being immune to damage for a few frames. it then states that the devs accidentally made this spot much bigger in the ps3 hd release, which is what allows this glitch to work. so if this is true, then its not due to the game going from 50hertz to 60hertz. this makes sense since when i witnessed the glitch, it was on the snagglebeast, not drek. maybe the snagglebeast simply doesnt have invincibility frames (or atleast in the US ps2 version), or maybe the spot is easy to hit in this version or maybe i just got lucky when i hit it. id say this should be tested a bit, maybe ill do said testing when i can get my ps2 set up again. also i think this is wonderful news for speedrunning on that version since this means that it would technically be possible for someone to find a way to get to that smaller sweetspot on ps2. anyways, heres a link to the FAQ if you wana take a look. it does have a few glitches you didnt mention in your movement guides so maybe you could benefit ^_^. as for me, im making a copy of this FAQ just incase it gets taken down. it is a googledoc after all so that's entirely a possibility. docs.google.com/document/d/1hmCgw9Q6kgg1oZ_kja33pwtIiikuB2ieZYAOp1rvr2I/edit
@@AleMusa my apologies, i have been quite busy with both school and moving houses. my ps2 is currently sitting in a storage box. also, from what i am told, this glitch on this version of the game only works on alien queen and snaglebeast because the portion of drek in this version of the game that allows this glitch is so tiny and hard to hit that it is not realy viable
I spent hours on Orxon Trying to get the Clank shortcut to work. On the odd occasion I did manage to get him to jump he wouldn't jump high enough. I'm on the PS2 version. Might that have something to do with it? In the end I ran Clank round the long way. It was quicker!!😅
36;40 Can it be that the NG+ Method isn't working in the PS2 PAL Version of the Game? I performed the Trick in the PS3 really consistent. But I the PS2 Version I was never be able to get the Jumpboost.
Hey, can anyone give me any tips on how to do Infinite Sideflips? I've been trying for almost an hour and haven't managed to get even one sideflip to happen, let alone enough to get any reasonable amount of height. I've been following the instructions as close as I can. Equip the booster pack. Double jump off of a ledge, After the double jump, Hold R1 and press X and either left or right on the left analog stick. Then while holding R1 the entire time, alternate between left and right on the analog stick while tapping X each time. Every time I try this, instead of gaining altitude, I just glide into the freezing water in the exact way each time. I've been trying to focus on moving the analog stick to 3/9 o'clock since I struggled at that to begin with, but getting that down didn't help. I've noticed that no matter what direction I point the analog stick, Ratchet will always do a boost in that direction. Ratchet always downright refuses to side flip. I don't know if I'm just doing something horrifically wrong or if my controller isn't registering my inputs or if my platinum copy has Infinite Sideflips patched or something. Can anyone give me any tips that Ricky didn't mention?
I am having trouble on only some movements. I am on PS2 and do you know if I’m wasting my time learning only 2 or 3 movements that are not possible? The move where you store momentum with the pda to do a long jump, pda gliding, and infinite jumps. Those I am having the most trouble with and I wasn’t sure if it’s possible on PS2
Is there much point trying to learn these on ps2 or should I get the ps3 version? I tried clank proxy and it’s not as easy as it looks, I got clank launched a couple of time but he just couldn’t get the height needed. I love this game and I remember watching segmented speedruns on speed demos archive probably 15+ years ago now lol. Think maybe it’s time I gave this speedrunning thing a go
Im thinking of starting to speedrun RaC just kinda casually for fun. Is there like a sheet that gives the main route people take for any% so i know which order to planets/which objectives to skip?
it really depends how casually you want to run. If we get down to the planets you can skip, it would be Aridia and Kalebo III. To skip Aridia, you need to skip the Trespasser and Hydrodisplacer, that means you must do swim clip in Rilgar, Ghost Ratchet (or ILJs if you want the really hard stuff for some reason) in Umbris and any Veldin 2 strategy like the Veldin SI or PDA tech. To skip Kalebo III you need to skip the Hologuise so learn either PDA Sideflips or going up the tube in Quartu with the Helipack. Otherwise your any% run would skip nothing and just do the courses in order. If you do try to learn PDA tech, keep in mind sideflips are much easier holding R1 the entire time, and the speedrunning discord is full of very helpful people to explain anything you might not know.
Hi there! I'm struggling to get clank proxy working on Orxon 1, I can clip into the tree semi-consistently, but when I punch into the pipe, I don't get as much height as in the runs I've seen and the example here at 37:10, I end up getting about 3/4 as much height as shown. Could this be to do with the version of the game I'm using, or is this a common mistake that I can rectify? (Playing on ps3 on the original trilogy disc)
@@ThaRixer Hi again, I've been trying to get into the RaC speedrunning discord but the invite has expired, I've tried the link in the RaC (non-speedrunning) discord, the link in the description in some RaC speedruns (and this video) as well as the one on google, but can't get in, should I just wait until there's an updated link somewhere?

What emulator are you using, and what widescreen patch? I'm using PCSX2 with a widescreen patch from the PCSX2 archive, and there are still things that are stretched out. Yours seems to look a lot better.
Don’t know if you’re still reading these comments but, I’m trying mid air long jumps and sometimes I get the animation, but the movement is very slow. Am I not doing it in neutral or what’s wrong?

My PS2 clank proxy just doesn't succeed, even if I get launched in the air it's not high enough to get to the infobot, it launches me sometimes halfway but never to the top.
youre probably on PAL PS2, turn on 60hz in the game and it'll work
@@ThaRixer how do I do that? 🤔
@@iStrategyHD go to the title screen idk ps2 sux anyway youre supposed to do all this stuff on ps3
been waiting for this badboy
So simple that in just couple days in I’m able to do iLj thanks a bunch
@ThatRixer you have to switch the timestamps in the description, as the seeking is showing the music timestamps on the video player, instead of the movement timestamp
wtf such a banguer to introduce the video
Darn; came in cuz it's interesting, now I actually want to try speedrunning the game lol. I like glitching, but haven't done much speedrunning.
Wow.
Great and educational tag worthy
Since nobody watches this video for the music, can you edit the description to make the timestamps for the music not the clickable kind, just the reference-able kind? It seems to mess with the new Chapters feature on YT. Here's a screenie from my view. i.imgur.com/mZpKPCU.png
Thanks A ton for the guide it’s helped very much
Where is the other movement guide for UYA?
This is pretty good quality
Trebark Thank you very much
Only high quaity content on this channel, keep the fuck up.
I've played ratchet and clank for years like over 8 10 years and I think this will take awhile for me to get
After playing Ratchet & Clank PAL on original hardware (stay away from EU Platinum, it's cursed, buy AU Platinum instead), I learned that high jump and long jump are faster.
Just an extra note, opening and closing the PDA on a ps2 is slower
Thats why PS2 and PS3 should have separate leaderboards
I respect the fuck out of you for making this and even including a hand cam. I probably won't even make use of this tutorial myself, but this is a great way to get people into speedrunning.
Okay I’ve had this idea for a while but I’m not sure if it will work or not.
When you start a new game + on veldin you have no ship however the courier ship is hidden in the back behind the mountains, what if you PDA backflip all the way too the ship and enter it and skip to the last planet or second last depending on weather you can load the final veldin with the boss I’ve been trying it but it’s so hard to get to the ship
Update:
I made it too the ship got in and there was no planets to go too
yeah, ratchet series is gating your planets by giving you the coordinates at the end of the main mission, many times tied to actual mission completion, sometimes are just in the cutscene trigger...
The pyro glitch isn't pal ps3 exclusive. I've done it on ps2 against the snagglebeast. Infact i didn't even know it was a glitch when i did it. i just thought the pyrocitor did tons of damage against bosses
Record it.
@@ThaRixer i will once i have the ability to. currently in the middle of moving so all that equipment is kinda all over the place. shame cuz i really wana try out some of the stuff mentioned in this vid. :(
but basically i jumped up on one of the platforms next to the boss's spawn point, one of the platforms he can destroy, and i jumped off and fired the pyrocitor at him while gliding down and his health went down to the point where he put his shield up. i hope i can recreate it. might turn out to be one of those things that's possible on this version but just much more difficult to pull off
@@ThaRixer hey i have a bit of an update. i found a speedrunning FAQ from a few years back (atleast 2014 at the earliest) and it talks about the pyro glitch. it states that in all versions of the game, drek has a spot underneath of him that ignores invincibility frames, allowing the pyrocitor to deal damage every frame instead of doing damage on one frame and then drek being immune to damage for a few frames. it then states that the devs accidentally made this spot much bigger in the ps3 hd release, which is what allows this glitch to work. so if this is true, then its not due to the game going from 50hertz to 60hertz.
this makes sense since when i witnessed the glitch, it was on the snagglebeast, not drek. maybe the snagglebeast simply doesnt have invincibility frames (or atleast in the US ps2 version), or maybe the spot is easy to hit in this version or maybe i just got lucky when i hit it. id say this should be tested a bit, maybe ill do said testing when i can get my ps2 set up again.
also i think this is wonderful news for speedrunning on that version since this means that it would technically be possible for someone to find a way to get to that smaller sweetspot on ps2.
anyways, heres a link to the FAQ if you wana take a look. it does have a few glitches you didnt mention in your movement guides so maybe you could benefit ^_^. as for me, im making a copy of this FAQ just incase it gets taken down. it is a googledoc after all so that's entirely a possibility.

@@NexGenration99 so, huh, no video proof?
19:30 = fou with helipack apl
36;40 Can it be that the NG+ Method isn't working in the PS2 PAL Version of the Game?
I performed the Trick in the PS3 really consistent. But I the PS2 Version I was never be able to get the Jumpboost.
I LOVE YOU RICKY!!, Thanks
Damn I was doing lag jumps as a kid all the time without realizing it lol
Hey, can anyone give me any tips on how to do Infinite Sideflips? I've been trying for almost an hour and haven't managed to get even one sideflip to happen, let alone enough to get any reasonable amount of height.
I've been following the instructions as close as I can.
Equip the booster pack.
Double jump off of a ledge,
After the double jump, Hold R1 and press X and either left or right on the left analog stick.
Thanks!
Is it possible to do the infinity mijinion on Ratchet and Clank 2? Or something like it?
If so, how?
I am having trouble on only some movements. I am on PS2 and do you know if I’m wasting my time learning only 2 or 3 movements that are not possible? The move where you store momentum with the pda to do a long jump, pda gliding, and infinite jumps. Those I am having the most trouble with and I wasn’t sure if it’s possible on PS2
Do Walloper punches not work on the collection for ps3?
I can lag jump fine on PS2 UYA but on PS3 it’s all of a sudden hard as hell
27:16 I normally do this anyway, and I don't speedrun unless required to unlock things in the game.

Does that make me a pro gamer?
Is there much point trying to learn these on ps2 or should I get the ps3 version? I tried clank proxy and it’s not as easy as it looks, I got clank launched a couple of time but he just couldn’t get the height needed.
I love this game and I remember watching segmented speedruns on speed demos archive probably 15+ years ago now lol. Think maybe it’s time I gave this speedrunning thing a go
I think an on screen input graphic would've been more helpful for people trying to learn than just a hand cam.
Can you use a turbo controller to hit R1 every frame for ILG's?
Probably better off asking the rac discord, I forget this part
@@ThaRixer Hi again, I've been trying to get into the RaC speedrunning discord but the invite has expired, I've tried the link in the RaC (non-speedrunning) discord, the link in the description in some RaC speedruns (and this video) as well as the one on google, but can't get in, should I just wait until there's an updated link somewhere?

Can you make the same video but updated for UYA? Also, does this include all strats for NG+ cuz it doesn't seem like it does..
Nah i dont run UYA anymore and if you learn everything there already is in the UYA video, the few 2-3 missing tricks will be easy.
