Hens aren't fools when it comes to babies. They use chirps and noises that are unique to the ones it raises so that It dosnt get confused with others. This chick was really lucky to have been accepted, other wise it would have been rejected. If u want a chick to be with a different hen u need to place it in night when they cant see for a few days until it get used to it with its eggs.
@@ytw101 Unless you got a really dum & aggressive hen,I had a hen who killed one of her babies after it hatched from the egg, like she guarded the eggs well but then didn't know the chick that came out of the egg was hers.
If you go in at night and remove the eggs, while in complete darkness, then slip in the baby chicks. The hen will think the chicks hatched from the eggs and accept them immediately.

Funny, I have a chick with me right now who was just 5 minutes ago crying about how cold she was 😂 Shes got no mother and no siblings so I am the mother, and I have to tell you they need constant attention lol
yes she did bond with the baby chick. As you can see, she allows it under her wing. A hen who doesn't think the baby is "hers" will literally peck the baby to keep it away. A lot of hens are not broody. But when they are, they don't leave the eggs for very long, in hopes of hatching her brood.
So that's why common sense should tell you to do it at night. Remove the eggs and replace with the chick. Otherwise you were apparently taking more of a chance that hen would Peck that little chick to death by doing it the way you did. Apparently that isn't a "mean" hen since she accepted the chick.
she may just try peck food on floor to tell chick eat it but look like chick peck back, very tough already, so sad little baby has to go through lot, get abused by humen n bigger chickens.
I remember when we first got our chicken Bingo. We had a bunch of baby chicks and four hens, Friday, Tilly, skittle, and Piper. Bingo loved to jump on top of the hens and sit on them. The only hen that didnt knock her off in confusion was Skittle. Skittle let bingo sit on her back and she would try to be gentle with her. Skittle is very motherly to bingo and it’s adorable. Bingo is too big to sit on Skittle’s back now, but she still loves to hang around her!
Glad she took it. I typically introduce chicks when the mother hen is distracted or sleeping. Giving them the luxury of choosing like this is kind of dangerous.
She was very broody of her eggs. So much that she barely left them. When I removed the egg and gave her the chick I knew it might go wrong. But was right there to take the chick away if it went bad. The tiny peeps before she visually saw the chick got her attention.
The hen was like: "Look little chick, I've pushed out hundreds if not thousands of eggs and not a single one has ever come back. You should be in an omelette right now so stop bugging' me!"
Fun chicken fact! The mother hen actually starts communicating and building a bond with her chicks while in the egg! This is why mother hens can tell what chicks are theirs and which ones aren't from a group. Though some will adopt other chicks just like some cats some will adopt others while others want accept them. Nature is so cool!
I’m of the opinion that baby chicks are the cutest of all baby animals. They’re just these cheeping clumps of fluff constantly seeking warmth. It’s just too much.
When we had chickens that were trying to hatch eggs but not successful, we would just go buy some baby chicks and stick them under her. They always be like 'yes ok'
Did you know that chickens in the wild, and domesticated hens too, tend to lay eggs in the same nest ? Broody hens will incubate any egg, even non chicken egg, so I'm sure they don't care whose babies they are raising. It's all instinct. A mother hen will raise ducklings if you let her incubate duck's eggs.

As a person who owns chickens, honestly I've never seen a chicken do that with a chick. I've seen them kill the baby chicks but never "bond" with them, so yeah this is surprising.
Well, if the chick is small enough, the probability that the mother hen will accept the chick is high. But if the chick is bigger, even just a bit, the hen will peck and chase it away. I did this several times, the mother hen brood over empty egg, and never become a mom. So I put a small chick (probably hatched for a few days) and the mother hen accepted her as her own.
@@MeowBockbock88 we'll that is true, I've seen chickens accept about any kind of baby after hatching them even a day or two after they hatched from another mother or a incubator.
