Bad ref call? Maybe. Blunder by Yuki? Definitely. He never should have made contact with Strazel on that shot. That game was over, ref or not. Just don't make contact.
I don’t see why he couldn’t, bigger players would probably be quite uncomfortable trying to be physical with him because of the size difference lol. Might be a plus for him. Plus he could sell fouls easier and get free throws
@jacobwatson9579 Dunno the exact population, but I do feel the JP media broadcasts sports like baseball and soccer alot more than basketball. However, I can say for certain the attention is rising thanks to plrs like Hachimura and Yuki
If Bronny James gets a single minute in the NBA, then Yuki is going to do the following: 1. Start over Ja Morant 2. Carry the Grizzlies to a 81-0 season and win rookie of the year 3. Not lose a single game in the playoffs 4. Go 4-0 against the Warriors in the championship and prove he is better at shooting 3’s than Steph Curry and win the MVP 5. Win the dunking contest 6. Beat Kaitlyn Clark in a3 point contest 7. Dunk on Wemby 8. Have a 16 year career 9. Retire with 13 rings and 11 MVPs
Yuki is amazing, His performances with the Japanese national team were jaw-dropping!!! And I think it would be good to see Yuki in NB2k25, they could add the Japanese FIBA team!!!
Yuki does play a bit like Bogues. Bogues was not only one of the best passers and handlers ever, but his defense was pretty good for a guy everyone could shoot over. You can't shoot if the ball gets taken from you while you're dribbling or holding it too low. Bogues was so short, guys didn't even see him coming to swipe those steals.
At 5'7 I played at Dunbar after the 5'3 Muggsy Bogues and he was super awesome...his defense was amazing and the way he controlled was game awesome as well...Mugs played 14 yrs and help his own...he gets my vote for the hall of fame!!
@@btschiz3514averaged a double double at one point! Incredible at his height, man. I was a good passer… but I wasn’t feeling it and I partied too much and got the axe and then flunked out so it is what it is 😂 I always had MAD respect for Muggsy and Spud and Nate and them. That they could be that impactful at such a high level at their size. It blew my mind how good people were at the higher levels like that.
Culturally japanese sports are very team first, individual second. Which makes it harder to recognize a great talent because they share the ball and playing time more. They dont really lack talent they just dont stand out like americans who focus on standing out.
Anecdotally most of my nipon/nihon friends preferred basketball. However I kinda met them via ball. So I can see my perception was biased. I'm also rooting for this young man.
The 6% number is a little misleading. Like in many countries, basketball while not being someone's favorite sports, is often many people second or third favorite sports. Basketball is pretty big in Japan.
Yeah this survey is either outdated or targeted at elderly people 😅 I looked into last year's ranking of sports that Japanese people enjoy watching. Overall, the top sport was baseball (36.3%), followed by soccer/futsal (35.6%), figure skating (23.5%), volleyball (22.9%), and marathon/ekiden (18.6%). Breaking it down by age group, basketball ranked in the top five for people in their teens to 30s. Among teens, it placed 4th with 20.3%, 5th among those in their 20s with 14.4%, and also 5th for those in their 30s with 14.5%. Interestingly, sumo did not appear in the top five for any age group. Where did this dude get the information from😅
I remember spud web. 😂 never over look the small and fast plus crafty players. They pick the pockets of the tall guys and make them look 👀 slow and silly 🤪 There is a place for him but he needs to shoot it well and be one awesome team mate that can facilitate. John Stockton was no giant but was super craft as we all know. Doubt his steal and assists records will ever be broken. His was super durable. Little guys aren’t like glass…. Nice vid by the way!
He'll make it if he can fix his shooting, he's an amazing player I hope it doesn't hold him back. He might just be getting over the pressure of the NBA compared to Japan audience considering it's not very popular there.
Jason Kidd even roasted his own jump shot in his Nike advert. Yui just needs to get up to the 40-45% range and he'll be alright... then again, the NBA has become more range oriented since Kidd's era.
Having really good short players in the NBA just really spices up the game. The tall players always complain about it because they don't know how to deal with it but that's why its fun.

Spud was a starter with the Kings, so he may consider that a better highlight than the dunk contest. He was one of the better perimeter shooters and had a solid package of point guard skills. It's debatable whether Bogues was better, since Bogues' didn't have the range on his shot that Spud had.
This may sound weird, but, the "I can overcome size and jumping ability with determination" is a very Japanese cultural statement. It is very much inline with their historical and cultural beliefs. The power of spirit can overcome physical deficiencies.
3:27 Well, some factor has to history, impact of manga and anime series... Slam Dunk is one of them 5:47 Not his signature move, his thing is shooting and scoring.
