Thanks for sharing...always enjoy your videos. When I plan on heading up that direction next (I live in Florida), I always search your videos to see if you've been there and get the scoop well before arrival!
Thanks for showing us the best of a huge variety of campsites. Not sure if I ever saw a camping area with so many choices of sports. The only “sport” (my favorite) not shown in this video is eating/cooking (unless I missed something). I agree that it is time for visitor’s centers to be open. Great video tour.
Thanks for watching! We did this way back in May-June, so it was the surge of the delta variant. They better be open come spring or I will blast them on this channel!!
We stayed at the Kerr lake Corp of Engineers campground with our then 29 foot-long 5th Wheel travel trailer and yes, saw several Bald Eagles walking on the shore of the then closed park across the water as you showed. I think that was probably in 2018 (well before the pandemic). I do not recall the exact site we had I think Bandit's Roost on the side of a hill as the restroom was down some stairs from us. Loved Wilksboro and we also took a day trip drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and drove it a bit but not very far (not with the RV).
Neat, I just came back from there. Stayed at Fort Hamby (again). Yes there are some good reasons to stay there beside it being just a nice lake and campground. Thanks for the comment
I like seeing your reviews. It is interesting to compare campgrounds on the east coast vs in the Pacific Northwest. Out here, among Federal lands, the Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds are probably the best. They are usually the ones that have hookups and services. Plenty of Army Corps campsites along the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Our Forest Service sites out here have nothing. They are generally very well paved and very well laid out, mostly flat with generous camp sites and tent pads, and very nice fire rings, but no services. Oh, there's water and pit toilets, but little else. Some of the Forest Service campgrounds have water that is pumped from the well electrically, but there are others where you have to hand pump your water. If you are RVing, you need to be prepared to have your fresh tank full before you make camp and pack all your waste out. I can't think of any Forest Service campgrounds in my area that even have a dump station. Which means that after a weekend out, you have to have a plan on where to dump your waste. Washington and Oregon state parks vary in terms of services, some are full hookup, some partial, and some primitive. It just depends on the park, location, age of the park, and when they did their most recent remodel.
Interesting. Thanks for that info. It will mean I need to be more careful in my packing for 2023. But I wonder if the eastern parks are just being "Upgraded " a bit faster than the western parks and they may become full service in another 5-10 years. But great information to know!! Thanks!
Greetings Rick! I just returned from a 4 night stay at Warrior Creek, Site 24. This site is very large/deep, level, treed borders offering nice shade. Access to mtn bike trail was approx 200yds down the road. As you state, a lot of things to see and do around the lake. I'm looking forward to going back next year. I enjoy your campground reviews! Safe Travels!
Great video! It would be nice to see you cooking something up on the griddle with the Aliner in the background and of course Akila running around too! :o)
I so rarely cook except for breakfast and occasionally a grilled sandwich. I pack meals I can just heat up or eat cold. But maybe I will during the winter. Hot foods are good in winter! Thanks for the suggestion
Personally, these are the kind of videos you do that I like. A mixture of everything; camp site review, hiking, drone footage, Akela and his sticks, etc. Have to agree that W Kerr area was not for me either. More of a parking lot then a campground. Now Fort Hamby is more my style. That's about a 5 hour drive for me but looks to be worth the drive. Can't tell you how much I appreciate all your videos, especially the campground reviews. Gives me the opportunity to see if I should even consider it. Thanks!
Bandits roost, it and Fort Hamby were the only Army Corp of Engineers Campsites open. The Other one was closed due to a large sinkhole in the road that needed to be fixed
Ya, I wasn't really please with this one either, it took me 4 months to decide to actually post it. We are going to be doing less "Campgrounds" and more "Place to go and camp". The season and work load is really getting to me. I have a hard time changing clocks, and Akela doesn't understand it at all!! LOL Thanks for the comment !
The campsites and bathrooms parts are boring. They're all the same . The exploring and Akekia antics are great. You could have a better audience if you appealed to an International audience that will never visit these areas. Your upgrades on the Aliner are invaluable. Cheers, Polly.
I will definitely keep that in mind. 60% of the reason for the campground and bathroom videos is so I can refer back to decide if I want to go back. At my age the memory isn't that great!! LOL. But I suppose Akela knows!! Good to hear from you, I appreciate the comment !
"Time to give that up, guys.." No kidding!! Good for you for continuing tour travels!! Thank you!!
Thanks for watching, Always glad to see your comments! Stay Safe!
U can but not us ?
@@eutimiochavez415 Maybe, thanks for the comment

Haha, I'll be headed down there for Xmas. Trying to plan a few stops on the way down and back. Let me know if you have favorites.

The reservoir looks to be good kayaking water! Plenty of options for camping. Thanks for sharing............
It's extremely nice for Kayaking, lots of little coves and wildlife areas. Thanks for the comment!
Just found your channel and I’m loving it, surprised we haven’t crossed paths we’ve been through a lot of the same areas. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for Sharing. These campgrounds offer a few things that others do not. Stay Safe.
Yes they do. Thanks for stopping by!
We love Bandits Roost for tent camping. Those cove sites are spacious and out of the way. Cheers!
They were big, But I didn'
t like how far they were from the car. Thanks for the comment !

Which campground is it ? There are many on Kerr Lake….
Fort Hamby
Where is this camp ground?
In the middle of Western North Carolina, USA, On Rt. 421 between Boone and Elkin, the actual town in Wilksboro, NC
I'm a runner, biker. My kind of place.
It has a lot of trails to do whatever on!! Nice place! Thaks for the comment.
I meant the 1rst one….
Bandits roost, it and Fort Hamby were the only Army Corp of Engineers Campsites open. The Other one was closed due to a large sinkhole in the road that needed to be fixed
PLEASE more camping, hiking, cooking, playing with Akela, ANYTHING BUT MORE CAMPGROUND REVIEWS, of this type at least.
