  • Warrior Creek Campground Review, an Army Corps of Engineers Park -Boomer, North Carolina Located on the W. Kerr Scott Reservoir
LOVE the trails here at Warrior Creek Campground! The park roads are a scenic drive by themselves. Throw in the sparkling W. Kerr Scott Reservoir view and you have a perfect camping get away here in the foothills in North Carolina.
What we love about Warrior Creek Campground:
    1. Trails: Well, one of us anyway -wink. Gary prefers trails that are more level. I prefer the up and down trails. The trails in this park are considered the best for mountain biking but they also offer some beautiful hiking.
    2. Campground roads: If you prefer to stay out of the woods, the hilly campground roads offer plenty of walking or biking while surrounded by nature. Think scenic drive through the hills...
    3. Close to towns: Take your pick if you need something from town. There's Boomer, Boone, Wilkesboro within an easy drive.
    4. Verizon service: We were able to do all that we wanted to do, although the service would slow down on occasion. Still, we were able to communicate, upload, download, and stream.
    5. Peaceful: Although this campground will fill up on the weekends, it's relatively quiet and peaceful.
    6. Wildlife: There are deer here!
    7. Dog walking: Pay attention if your dog is prey driven. Ours did ok, but had many exciting moments when they picked up the deer scent or heaven forbid, saw a deer. There are plenty of dog walking opportunities. If you prefer a more flat trail option, head to the W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir Dark Mountain Trail area just five miles away.
    8. Campsite: Roomy, 50 amp service, our site was level although check carefully when reserving. Many sites are not level.
    9. Lots to do here: Hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, boating
What we didn't love about Warrior Creek Campground:
    1. Campsites are close together and provide minimal privacy. Many campsites fall into this category. There are a few that offer shade, shrubs, and privacy. In our loop, #44 sits off by itself, is large, and private. Where we are, #47, we could easily see and chat with our neighbors on each side if we were all sitting outside. Still, this never posed a problem for us and it's just something to be aware of.
    2. Verizon service may not be stellar. We did fine but it was not the best.
    3. Lakefront sites are not really lakefront. Our site is listed as a lakefront site but we were no where near the water. There was a muddy, water area at the far end of our camping loop.
This campground and this site provided us with a nice stay in what felt like mountains to us Floridians! Despite the things we didn't love, we'd recommend this campground if you are planning on traveling in this area.
