It's not just about seeing it on a bigger screen, it's about getting caught up in the excitement at the time. I havent seen the remake, so I cant speak to the criticism, but lets face it, kids arent going to think as deeply on the movie as we will from an adult perspective. And in all likelihood even if parents feel it wont live up to the original they saw as a kid, they're still gonna take their kids to see it, because it's a movie they can take their kids to, and most will at least want to check it out. In short it'll make a lot of money because a lot of parents will take their kids, and since kids dont like to feel left out theyll ask their parents to take them so theyre not the only one in their social circle missing out on the experience. Yes theres nothing stopping kids from watching the original, but theres nothing stopping them from doing both. I remember seeing the original when I was 6. It was amazing. If I had kids I would take them to see this, and I would like to see it myself to see how it compares. Whatever doubts I have going in and whatever criticism I had going out wouldnt matter, because it wouldnt be about my feelings toward the movie, it would be about providing my kids with an experience they can remember. Popping a dvd of a movie that came out 15 years before they were born would never provide the same level of excitement.

That's *hilarious* ! It also fits with the lesson in the film; who cares about *originality, authenticity and dignity* . Money is everything for the new *evil empire* !
That log scene with Timon, Pumba, & Simba looked bland as well! Remember in the Original when The Trio were Dance Walking against the Beautiful & Vibrant Backgrounds as Simba was Growing Up! In This One They just kinda prance across the Screen, THRILLING!🙄
Jiggy Puff no. Its really not. These remakes are just nostolgia cash grabs without the quality of the originals. There's just no reason for them to exist. They just is.
Finally someone else saying this! Those would be great, for you could even cast stars for those roles and it would work great with real actors and probably be easier to make! What the hell Disney!
Yes! I've been saying this for months. Those movies did poorly in theatres but they had a lot of great ideas and are now considered cult classics. They are the type of films deserving a redo.
Archie Utai they would never do those movies or The Emperor’s New Groove. They only would remake their popular films. Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin, see the pattern?
@@magicwand97 I fucking hate that argument. John Oliver isn't black, and neither is Seth Rogen. I would've preferred Diney to remake some of thier less popular films, to improve upon the original source material, the lion king doesnt need a remake becuase it was already perfect.
Less popular films don't give them money. They used to make some great films trying different tones, now? It's all about happy faces and CGI, for the most part.
Yet people are still gonna pay too see it and it will make over a billion dollars then complain about Disney not doing anything original because most of Disney’s original movies don’t make much in the box office
TyCena Royalty just FYI it would be the quality of the cgi that is older, unless we’re talking digital cameras, film has been super high quality for decades and decades :)
While I like Beyonce as a performer, Lupita would've been the best choice for Nala. Keith David would've been the PERFECT Scar, and there were far more better options to go with for Simba than Childish Gambino. I get that the studios go with who they think will pull in a larger audience for the $$$, but I wish they'd start casting based off talent and who makes sense for the role again vs popularity and politics.
@@avk1063 Exactly, well put. When I heard Beyonce was in the remake, I couldn't help but feel she was miscast. And it seems my suspicious are correct. She was just an extra brought in for cheap marketing.
It's a cash grab for Disney. It's Nostalgia for the audience. Plain and simple. Long as Disney keeps popping out these remakes audiences will still go see them. Disney wins no matter what.
They really butchered that entire sequence. The dialogue is just "You must join the circle of life" and "I have never left you", which is meaningless. In the original, Mufasa berates Simba for having forgotten him and Simba's response to that was one of the most touching moments.
When I watched Lion King in my teens I always said that if they remade it Beyonce would voice Nala and I wasn't going to like it and I was right. Her voice doesn't fit the character at all. I feel like she was thrown in there because she didn't win the award for Dream Girls.
scribble71891 True. I understand it from a commercial point of view but artistically it was a very bad choise. She needs to stick to singing and being sexy and beautiful on stage
You say that like everyone else was so vibrant and full of energy tho!! Most of the characters in this movie were lifeless and the voice acting was bad from Simba, Scar, the hyenas, Rafiki was just gawd awful, even James Earl Jones as Mufasa sounded like he couldn't care less. Yeah Beyonce was bad but other than Timon, Pumba and Zazu, everyone else was awful as well
Hollywood is just doing what Hollywood always does Novapoid. Cash grabbing. Because people like to see what is familiar but is the most flashiest in respect to how they feel at a certain time.
That and I would love to see Atlantis as live action. I love the art direction in that movie and if they remade they could fix the problems people had with it.
Think of how much better a hand drawn full length "Lion King Origins" would have been instead. Learning about Mufasa and Scars life BEFORE Simba. Complete with a great score and same animation. We have wanted this since 1995 and I hate that it will never happen.
Squid SQuiddly I just want to see new and original. Everything nowadays is soft reboots/remake, movies based on books/video games, sequels/prequels, entertainment seems stagnant for my taste, you know what I mean?
EXACTLY!!! They should explain why Scar is so evil and why he hates his brother so much, and explain how he got his scar. Also I’d like to see who were mufasa and scars parents.
TX X In my personal opinion, Atlantis is my second favorite Disney film. I really enjoyed this film and I was glad that it wasn’t a musical and focused more on the plot. If Disney ever did a remake of this forgotten film, they should cast Andrew Garfield as Milo Thatch and Jon Bernthal as Rourke.
I was disappointed. The emotion was definitely lacking. Older Simba was blah, I was waiting for Rafiki to say some of his key lines, didn't happen. Unnecessary emphasis was placed on Nala. Scar continually asking Sarabi to be his queen was uncomfortable. What happened to Ed? I could go on. Bottom line, I'll stick to the cartoon. It had more meaning.
Answering in order older Simba could have been stylized like Aslan to improve it. Nala is voiced by Beyonce so that probably cost alot so they'll emphasize her at the cost of the script Scar well they have to get that adult rating right? So why not...flame the social media and what not. Ed, well IDK...

The producers of the movie were probably hoping that since the movie is an exact copy, no one would criticize it because they would be criticizing a classic.
That's an interesting thought. It probably has more to do with nostalgia bait than anything. The original movie isn't without its flaws, but it's still good and aged really well. This movie probably won't age well due to the CGI. Hell, it doesn't look that good now. But it's pretty likely that most of the criticism for this movie will be about how it does everything the original did but worse and less of it.
Robert Worden To me the perspectives vary, some people might think it’s perfect because the original is perfect, whilst others (including me) would agree that they change things that had no reason to be changed as many remakes do which without a doubt seems to be a flaw that also varies based off of the people that watch it. It could the childhood classic person who points out every little flaw in the film or the person who doesn’t pay attention to that but still acknowledges the MAJOR mistakes such as plot holes.
@@markcobuzzi826 No, I knew the history behind Kimba. Sorry, I should've clarified. I was just wondering why, now? Anything businesses do is a cash grab dude. It's a business, that's what they do, make money. What's wrong with wanting more money? That's what we all want.
Foolish Samurai D ummm no. A cash grab is popularly regarded as a marketable product containing neglected quality. For example, this movie is the holy grail of animated Disney films so it’s garunteed to make a lot of money, however since the movie didn’t live up to the original name, people imply that it was made just for money aka a cash grab
Foolish Samurai Never said anything was wrong with making money. EVERYTHING is wrong with putting out product with no quality for the purpose of just making money
Maybe Mulan cause they are taking it and putting a Disney historical spin on it. So it seems like it will be a more unique piece in comparison to the other remakes.

Lion King is one of Disney's wort films. Even Disney thought it would be a flop. A spoiled brat who didn't listen to his father and got him killed. Then he meets up with some losers where he is taught play and be lazy. Then he tries to hook-up with his old crush, lucks out beating the bad guy and then takes over the kingdom, still being a punk douche. Jordan Vallejo but they CAN motion capture the actors/actresses 😉 they’ve successfully done this in MANY live action CGI movies - remember Avatar? You don’t have to capture fake animals talking - because the animation has the capacity to capture the subtle face movements of humans to then translate into animals ...
I think that’s because it had humans literally speaking and interacting w the animals who can also talk. There’s no way to make its more photorealistic AND emotional especially if there’s no humans
Not just Lion King, they'll probably adapting 21th century Disney animated films like Frozen, Tangled, Wreck It Ralph (gosh i wonder how that's gonna turn out), Big Hero 6, Moana, Bolt, or even Raya And The Last Dragon to live action. Just a piece of cashgrab

@@christopherbarbour1022 we're not talking about the real world, we're talking about the world of The Lion King. Of course this isn't based on a true story cuz no lions can speak properly
Well, the thing is, if you ignore the fact that it’s a remake, then you can find lots to love about it. For example, Mufassa’s death (did i spell that right?). The camerawork, the music, and the dialogue, make it an intense, then sad scene and we can see why Simba is so traumatized, because he couldn’t see Scar. He thought it was his fault, leading him to run away, like Scar tells him to. It’s definitely a great moment in the movie, even the 2019 version. Another part is when Simba sings the song about how he cannot wait to be king. Simba and Nala are having fun, singing and playing with the other animals, and having Zazu be worried about them and losing them makes it even more funny. When they finally reach the elephant graveyard, it seems to build up to something sinister, that being the hyenas. An intense chase sequence happens, before Mufassa comes in and fights them off. What happens next is a heartfelt moment between Simba and his father. Mufassa makes it very clear that he is not happy with what Simba did, and that he was scared for the safety of his son, but at the end of the day, he still loves Simba, and they’ll still play around and this is great character building. I got all of that from the 2019 version. I haven’t watched the 1994 version yet, but I am planning to. EDIT AFTER WATCHING THE ORIGINAL: Wow. No you’re right, the remake sucks compared to this masterpiece. The original is a timeless classic. The remake just doesn’t understand that this story is meant to be animated, it needs good voice acting, and “Be Prepared” is a song, not a speech/chant/whatever the remake’s version is meant to be.
It's quite obvious Chris Struckmann and fans don't seem to understand that the aspects of the lion king wasn't all in the characters, it was in the transformations they went through, a heroes journey, reaching the Abyss as articulated by Nietzsche, the wisdom and benevolance in the idea of king and its collapse into the tryannical state, none of which would benefit from a director having their "own take" on the show which would decimate the most important parts of the movie.
never gonna see the remake version, when I heard they remade the Lion King I felt insulted since I grew up with original animated version, just like Cartoon Network remade Teen Titans in made Teen Titans go.
Lets set one thing straight. This movie is a gimmick. This movie is a gimmick to say "hey guys look how good our cgi has gotten as we will remake your favourite film with amazing tech. Pay us to see our tech presented as a class. Now give us your damn money and the damn oscar." The original is superior. It is a movie. This is a tech demo.
Not everyone loves the original. I have no emotional connection to it and don’t find it entertaining, so I for one am very interested in seeing another take on it. Same thing happened with the Jungle Book, not a fan of the animation, but the live action is stunning
@@Lamidemonami7891 It's not even an "another take".What crack are you on?. This doesn't even make sense?.So you'll like the movie(without its personality )more now because it looks realistic?.What kind of logic is that?
WAIT, wait wait, hold the breaks!!! The voice acting is good?? I thought that was one of the worst aspects of the entire movie and especially Donald Glover is terrible as Simba, making him out to a complete whimp with a much less powerful singing voice than the young Simba.
Agreed with this review. The personality is lacking. There is no soul in this film atall. The 1994 animation was pure soul, passion and joy mixed with epic sadness and evil that gets crushed by the epic Destiny of Simba. Rafiki barely talks atall. He didn't get his stick until the end of the film and there was no humor in him. He was awesome in the original but the remake ruined him.
Deborah Rahn “the movie is good, your mind is stuck on memories from your past.” That was condescending therefore I decided to be that back. Try again.
And don't forget they cut out the weight of the movie by cutting out the main dialogue almost as if they should have just made it a silent movie with a narrator to explain what was going on like a discovery channel with real animals.. lol If they would have just added some dialogue to give it some more meaning and meat it would have been better.

I’m only bummed that the Timon and Pumba content was the only “original” content in the whole movie - even the “word for word” script had unique and new deviations. I went with open expectations and perhaps hopes that there would be some *pertinent* elaborations on the theme - what I got was the copy-paste Serengeti documentary with a voice cast.
They didn’t capture the true essence of each character I understand adaptation is someone else’s interpretation and their own spin off at the very least capture what made the character like able to everyone and stick to the main core what made the character who they are the look was beautiful magnificent but the story telling is half ass
These type of realistic animated characters all have the same problem. Just like with the Polar Express, they think facial expression should be sacrificed for realism. There are subtle ways Disney could have made great expressions on them, but they didn't to make the animals look more "real". It's talking animals, make them expressive. Animated movies lose their soul when they don't do this. It's so stupid.
There are plenty of photos of real lions that look like they're making facial expressions. Not to mention, Aslan made expressions like 15 years ago and it still looks good.
I wonder if they shortened "be prepared" because the original version has nazi eqsue vibes to it and they were too scared to recreate that given their target audience being woke fairies 🤔🙄
I'm confused because Jon Favreau directed _The Jungle Book 2016_ and the animals there are VERY emotive especially through the eyes so....what happened.
They figured out they can still make a ton of money while putting in only a fraction of the budget, because mindless drones will go see it anyway. Or this time they spent all their money on the shit celeb voices.

The producers of the movie were probably hoping that since the movie is an exact copy, no one would criticize it because they would be criticizing a classic.
I feel like they could have predicted this after The Force Awakens.
The producers were wrong.

Obviously. Disney is a corporation. No matter how they advertise their company, their goal is to make money.
And live action remakes make money.
For what ever reason it caught on, probably the bad Elton John song. It is odd how bad/average movies sometimes catch on, Magic Mike, Meet the Parents, Avatar, Fifty Shades of Grey, Titanic, Crocodile Dundee, and As Good as It Gets.
@@nick-kd2yx yes true if you find a fresh viewpoint it can make it interesting. But not shot for shot live action remakes. We the moviegoers are eating up this garbage. They will continue to sell garbage then.
the lack of facial expressions is my biggest concern about this movie
The other issue is the muted color scheme. It doesn't have the same impact as the stylized traditional animation which was so dynamic.
@@Ntyler01mil so another classic has been ruined by stupid CGI
@@dond4314 It deserves 60% Rotten Tomatoes nitbhad rotten movie one of better live action remakes just need redo long love the king.
@@RobertK1993 nah, it should be lower. This movie's positive review is just the visuals, cinematography aswell as bringing back James Earl Jones as Mufasa, but everything else about it was bad. Cinderella was a far better live action remake than this cuz Cinderella could actually work in live action with an emotional story, not The Lion King
@@Ntyler01mil I've seen clips of the 2019 version and it definitely lacked color and emotion. if I went there I would have walked out without vomiting.
Everyone: Disney reboots are just cash grabs
Disney: Look Beyoncé
@Notorious Bran
Adding Beyonce proves y'all's point...
The realistic animals never really connect with their voices, it feels like the weird dubbing of those Beverly Hills Chihuahua type movies.
Leo Lee yeah like Marmaduke or Underdog, the worse type of movies
Jordan Vallejo but they CAN motion capture the actors/actresses 😉 they’ve successfully done this in MANY live action CGI movies - remember Avatar? You don’t have to capture fake animals talking - because the animation has the capacity to capture the subtle face movements of humans to then translate into animals ...
Leo Lee hahahaha hell yeah
It's all about Look Whose Talking Too for me.
Some things are just left animated
In Jungle Book animals felt more humanized.
Kit Rimes the lion king is too realistic
And they didn't mirror the original scene to scene dialogue and soundtrack!
I think that’s because it had humans literally speaking and interacting w the animals who can also talk. There’s no way to make its more photorealistic AND emotional especially if there’s no humans
Right!
@@hytone6924 No, it isn't. Animals in real life emote more than that. A LOT more than that.

Disney: let's remake 'lion king' again
most sad part about this, is that you're probably right
Not just Lion King, they'll probably adapting 21th century Disney animated films like Frozen, Tangled, Wreck It Ralph (gosh i wonder how that's gonna turn out), Big Hero 6, Moana, Bolt, or even Raya And The Last Dragon to live action. Just a piece of cashgrab
"Can You Feel the Love... This Afternoon?" A new hit song by Chris Stuckmann

@@christopherbarbour1022 we're not talking about the real world, we're talking about the world of The Lion King. Of course this isn't based on a true story cuz no lions can speak properly
For me it is a crime to make a remake of Lion King. The original would be perfect for centuries.
Maybe if they added things that would make Lion King 2 make more sense I would have appreciated it
It's not original
Its called a cash grab
original is kimba the white lion (1965)
Anshuman Deogharia the original is Hamlet
It annoys me that now I have to specify that I am talking about the original 90s film when I discuss Disney trivia
Derrick Wade I know right?
Not that it makes a difference in this case since it's apparently the same damn movie.
@@Lyendith But without soul
Derrick Wade I KNOW RIGHT?!
Derrick Wade didn’t even think about that but it’s gonna suck saying Lion King 94🙄
They took the original and removed all the color, expression, and personality.
And camerawork.
"From the makers of 'Teenagers On A Camping Trip At Lake Esque Horror'...
...comes the remake NO-ONE had been waiting for."
Applies to this.
Because it’s damn near impossible to put all the color, expression and personality inside of a live-action movie.

"Everything the light touches is our kingdom." - Bob Iger
Darkswordz Colonial England be like:
It's quite obvious Chris Struckmann and fans don't seem to understand that the aspects of the lion king wasn't all in the characters, it was in the transformations they went through, a heroes journey, reaching the Abyss as articulated by Nietzsche, the wisdom and benevolance in the idea of king and its collapse into the tryannical state, none of which would benefit from a director having their "own take" on the show which would decimate the most important parts of the movie.
Darkswordz I think you mean James earl jones
@@kamenriderbuildismyfavorit6670 I think you missed the point of the joke.
Darkswordz what was the point? I have no idea who is bob iger
“This film is soulless” damn Chris... that was so cold.
Not untrue though
This movie looks like a BBC Earth documentary with voice actors
I guess that says it all. A sophisticated effect without soul
Kinda ironic how the most monotoned and soulless RUclips film personality was the one saying it 🤣
Cold but did he lie though?
Soulless is the PERFECT word for the movie. I just saw it today and it was just....empty.
never gonna see the remake version, when I heard they remade the Lion King I felt insulted since I grew up with original animated version, just like Cartoon Network remade Teen Titans in made Teen Titans go.
If you go to Wikipedia the editors just copy and paste the 1994 plot summary to the 2019 plot summary. It brought a chuckle to me.
This is too a movie. What the fuck are you even talking about?
I don't think you know what a tech demo is, kid
Not everyone loves the original. I have no emotional connection to it and don’t find it entertaining, so I for one am very interested in seeing another take on it. Same thing happened with the Jungle Book, not a fan of the animation, but the live action is stunning
So it's Avatar 2
Don't forget the pandering to identity politics.
@@Lamidemonami7891 It's not even an "another take".What crack are you on?.

WAIT, wait wait, hold the breaks!!! The voice acting is good?? I thought that was one of the worst aspects of the entire movie and especially Donald Glover is terrible as Simba, making him out to a complete whimp with a much less powerful singing voice than the young Simba.
Nah, in my opinion Glover was ok, not good nor amazing, but ok. Beyonce's voice acting was bland
@@Fl0k5ser I felt the same. She’s a phenomenal singer and dancer, but her acting is just awful.
Glover and Beyonce were terrible! Seth Rogen was actually hilarious
TV Show Reviews I guess this would be good for children who don’t know better, hey like you!
Deborah Rahn “the movie is good, your mind is stuck on memories from your past.” That was condescending therefore I decided to be that back. Try again.
I thought it was a great movie
And don't forget they cut out the weight of the movie by cutting out the main dialogue almost as if they should have just made it a silent movie with a narrator to explain what was going on like a discovery channel with real animals.. lol
If they would have just added some dialogue to give it some more meaning and meat it would have been better.
David Adesegun I’m younger and I know the old. But this one is much better because it’s just better, it’s more natural. It isn’t too childish anymore with that Nazi walk 😑

“Soulless” is 100% correct. Was disappointed. As general and stupid as it sounds, it just didn’t have that energy and heart the original had. Pumba and Timon were great though
they worked hard at the movie
stop being rude
@@oliviacasteneda1545 just because someone works hard on something doesn't mean you can't criticize it. Honestly, they should have worked harder on something more original instead of these nasty remakes. 😒
No they weren't. Go fuck yourself.
Timon was 10 times better in the original and he sang!
C. Lynn this is so true
There are plenty of photos of real lions that look like they're making facial expressions. Not to mention, Aslan made expressions like 15 years ago and it still looks good.
Jeremy Irons not voicing Scar and the shortened 'Be Prepared' song makes me lose interest in this movie.
He was to white.
Proud Saiyan Prince
Time for different actors
Also a shame they didn’t cast Nathan Lane again.
I wonder if they shortened "be prepared" because the original version has nazi eqsue vibes to it and they were too scared to recreate that given their target audience being woke fairies 🤔🙄
You just decide to post the same comment on Jeremy's and this video lol?
I'm confused because Jon Favreau directed _The Jungle Book 2016_ and the animals there are VERY emotive especially through the eyes so....what happened.
I really don't know how much a director does for a movie like this. The render farms in Korea make these movies.
They figured out they can still make a ton of money while putting in only a fraction of the budget, because mindless drones will go see it anyway. Or this time they spent all their money on the shit celeb voices.
@@Lesnooch "fraction of the budget"? The movie cost 250M fuckin dollars. I wouldn't be surprised if the end cost was 300M. And you know you KNOW it's gonna triple that in return.

The jungle book was the only remake I liked
I just saw the Lion King remake last night and during the opening sequence quickly realized it was a shot-for-shot remake and found that disappointing. I did like the Lion Sleeps Tonight sequence which in some ways was better than the original, though it was void of some of the original humor, but at least it was musically more pleasing.
