New to Obsidian (weeks old). This was a HUGE game-changer for me. I had a little trouble in the beginning, all because I failed to capitalize the "W" in waypoint. Once I corrected that it worked just yours did in the video. So grateful, I had to subscribe!
Great explainer on a **really** interesting plugin. This seems especially useful if you use Obsidian Publish, which doesn't support Dataview queries. I'm still wondering how to combine "Landmarks" and "Waypoints". It seems like Landmarks are for Folders that have a lot of sub-folders, where you don't want to have the full tree show up, and Waypoints are for folders where you want to be sure that all the nested subfolders appear in the graph - and as backlinks in those notes. For me, this replaces the need to use an "up" Property, something that that Nick Milo @linkingyourthinking developed in his "Linking Your Thinking" approach.
I use "Text expand" (Expander) plugin for the very same thing. I recommend to use it with Templater plugin to create quick efficient work flow. e.g. when i do [Atl+E] -> TOC -> [enter] i get current note renamed after it's parent folder, added exclamation mark to the name to keep it at the top, prefilled tags and yaml header, and TOC of any note files in current folder and sub-folders . Templator should work with Waypoint plugin as well it just extends template functionality of templates by adding possible variables like parent folder name etc.
Thanks for the video, I did not know this plugin. In the list I get also the folder note file listed, so it messes things. Not sure if is a bug or I am missing anything.
Here is a text companion, I hope this makes it easier for you to trouble shoot! One thing to note is that Waypoint needs to be capitalized just how it is in the settings. medium.com/@animalcrackerart/automatic-file-indexes-in-obsidian-the-waypoint-plugin-61dbf4aaaffc
I don't get it. What's the point? You already have the folder /file structure on the left side in these Explorer. Now you just see the same structure 2x 😅
I'd say two of the bigger reasons people use this plugin would be because some people really prefer in-note navigation when possible and because it can automatically create links and backlinks within a folder with zero maintenance and creates true links to the files which work out of the box with Publish/3rd party uploading scripts.
I have installed and enabled the plugin but don't get the "Folder Note Commands" option in the right-click menu as seen at 3:56 , any idea why that might be?
I haven't used Kanban plugins in Obsidian extensively. If each kanban card is its own note and they are stored in the same directory, I don't see how it wouldn't work.

It's tough when simple, non-obvious mistakes can cause such a headache! Glad it's working for you and huge thanks for subscribing!
You made me finally realize how it works! Thanks alot, mane!
Glad I could help!!!!
Oh I love this. Before I tried doing this manually myself but it was too much work.

Yeah, being usable in Publish and other note sharing plugins is a plus too!

is there way to change the folder names into headings and format they you desrie?
No, the plugin has little in the way of customization for that.
I would appreciate if you could make a step by step list how to make "Waypoint" work. It doesn't work for me, and I wonder where I'm going wrong!

Update: I had installed "folder note" and not "folder noteS"
Thank you because the folder note plugin recommended by the author was trash and did not work.
If folders are central to your notes workflow then you're missing thecentire point of obsidian
We are all our own individuals likely using the program for different purposes! It's okay that people use Obsidian in different ways!
Will this work with kanban files??
