- I take a look at the Tmall Genie smart speaker from Alibaba here in Shenzhen, China. It's ¥89 and gets you access to the Tmall and Taobao stores through voice control and also comes with a free smart lightbulb. The big question is, can it understand my Chinese......?

Definitely an awesome smart speaker that can offer beauty instructions and I really like this thing. The use of Mediatek chipset in it has made it all the more amazing.
The Tmall Genie Queen smart mirror also seems to be a very popular product of the brand. It's basically a talking mirror for makeup, powered by mediatek
I tried to install it here in Canada, and Genie did not connect to the server. I read somewhere one would need a VPN server in China to get through the great Chinese firewall. How frustrating! So I installed a VPN client on my phone, connected to a Chinese server, and then connected Genie to the Wifi hotspot on my phone. And it worked, yeah! BUT it will obviously not work without the VPN?! I saw they sell a Wifi router for exactly that reason on Taobao, about 200 USD I guess to remember! This is ridiculous. Is there any other way to make Genie work?
It is because different tone of your words give different meaning. Therefore it's not the speaker's problem XD
Does tmall genie can be change from Chinese to English? And does this work like the other speaker. What I mean is can this connect to my phone to play a song? Like the other speaker?

Part of the problem could be your pronunciation. But I have the same problem with Siri using English so….. aiya

The problem dosen't lies on the product ... Its you Chinese pronunciation... Its the same when you use google mini... If you mispronounce a word ... it dose not pick up and information will not get through... Buck up on your Chinese before you ask .... I am a chinese and I don't really understand what you say without reading the subtitles... Do try again..
