If you’ve read the books, you know how important this scene is on many levels. The music, the location & cinematography, and acting are so perfect & had me in tears. BEST way to spend 16 million dollars.
pounds, to be precise 😊
Felt the exact same way! Feel like the creators really crafted this scene for the readers of the book. It just hits so much harder knowing what will happen 😢
@@Dk-kx3xx It was so beautifully done. I’ve watched this clip 5-10 times & can’t picture a better shot for shot.
@@litbace7205 Indeed! So >$16million USD afaik
I'm not a book reader, so this scene is the only scene so far that hasn't paid off for me.
Will says in the hospital that he isn't on the side of humanity, but only on Jin's side. So it doesn't make sense to me that he's gonna buy a fictitious star for Jin to help the war efforts.
So I don't want to be spoiled with details, but can anyone answer if this is scene gonna pay off (or at least be relevant) later in the series?
One of my favorite scenes from this series, brings so much tears. The videos playing in the background gives such a powerful message that "This is humanity" and they're about to fight an alien race.
Just wait til you find out how important the star is on many levels.
It sends a medsage that this idiot should have never been given 17 million to piss away like a child. He could have named a star himself. But he paid some random con artist who said he owned all the stars to sell. How stupid can you be? There were millions of other ways he could have actually done some good. Helped starving children, saved thousands of lives with medical care. Oh no, but he needed an organization to tell him he owned a star and he showed his last act on earth was as useless and pathetic as his whole life. I liked will and i lost all respect for him. There is nothing romantic or dymbolic about beimg scammed and everyone who thinks it is great is just a big of a tool. He could have started a foundation where they name stars and take the money to heal sick kids. He could have done it for free or made a pretty plaque for nothing and helped in ways that actually made a difference. This is an act of a selfish child.
Yun Tianming bought a star
Video Games by Lana Del Rey really elevated the scene. 💛
It really did
The scene is much less powerful without it
Lana Del Ray makes anything worse 💀
@@chriscunningham8703 i thought COVID ended, guys here's a man with symptoms of COVID a.k.a NO TASTE
The lyrics are oddly precise to the story. From the Video Game to “heaven is a place on earth with you” to “I hear you like the bad girls”. I was surprised to learn it’s an old song. Kudos to the producers.
@@chriscunningham8703 Bro does not know the story
This is the scene that made me realize this is gonna be one of those shows that is talked about for decades.
I cried during this scene. The scene is so well shot and done and Lana’s voice is heavenly. Video games was the perfect choice for this❤
same all while I didnt connect that much to will, it actually suprised me how much of an impact the song had.
"We're in the Endgame now" - Dr. Strange - If you know, you KNOW what i mean with this scene. Bravo, bravo to Alex Sharp for acting the hell out the most underrated hero of the story.
Wish someone loved me as much as he loves Jin. Cant wait to see all the crazy stuff from books 2 and 3!
HER star has such an important role to play. This scene is so pure & beautiful for many reasons.
How many years do we have to wait till we can see this masterpiece sequels.
Maybe someone already does
Why is the star so important? Is it related to the series?@@FigmentForever
@@Whodat__whodat Very important down the road…
I was caught off guard when Video Game suddenly played. As a huge Lana fan, I was crying the entire time on this scene
I feel that this scene is way better than the book. Will’s smile in this scene is just unforgettable moving. I can’t leave my eyes off it without tears. ❤
Will Downing is my favorite plot line. Alex Sharp is such a great actor.
The piano instrumental on the beach right before this scene was so beautiful.
I screamed when this came on, definitely wasn't expecting to hear Lana. Gave me chills :)
Same ! My heart just lit up .

This scene is beautiful, peaceful yet powerful. It feels that Will has seen life in every form as he walks along the big screen, and at the end of the road, he makes the decision with a heart full of love. Not only for Jin, for life as well.
I remember i just staring at the credits roll after this scene end.
Me too,because I just listen.
it is you it is you , it. is all for you. Best adaption of Yun Tian Ming.
Yun Tianming and his star
Will Downing is the definition of a beautiful soul. he didn't make too much of an impression on me at first, but as the season unfolded he became the heart and soul of the Oxford Five. he wasn't the smartest or bravest or most driven, but he was so unmitigatedly GOOD that in a way he represented why humanity was worthy of saving. i love that there were so many opportunities for his love subplot with Jin to descend into sappy or cringe, but it NEVER did. it was just perfect.
as i understand he's not really dead and will come to play a huge role with Jin at the end - but even so, god, you could feel the devastation when Jin wasn't there in time to say goodbye to him, and again when the staircase project failed in a way that sent him careening off course. ooooof.
he is my favorite character from the series .
I haven't read the books but this scene is what left on my mind and I can't get over it after watching entire season 1
Tianming and the star he gifted
For those of you wondered why they spent so much time on Will's character! Just stay tuned. He is going to be such an important character down the line!
Omg I am so relieved he doesn't die at the end!!
Haven't read the book but I guess the enemy fleet did reach him
This comment is kinda spoilery since you're meant to believe he's lost and that's it after the staircase project fails. idk why when stories get adapted a lot of people who've read the source material feel the need to be so coy and "I know more than you" about stuff
@@noasegal4062no he’s pretty dead, but only his physical form :)
Dude, you realise how big a spoiler that is...?
Not ideal series but this last scene and Will's words before ending are catching something very human from Liu's books, give hope and something more I can't describe.
Agreed. Surprisingly, unlike the books, the highlight of the show has been the human connections rather than the science fiction.
I don't think I could be this selfless.
It was actually selfish, and he was dying anyway.
@@B0bbyLawton But how? He was selfish when he tried to confess to Jin, but how is this selfish. He's donating money for a cause for the humanity(the organisation is raising funds for a global defence).
@@SlammedDownBigStyle3265 I think it’s less about selfish or selfless and more about just having a lot of love left over for Jin with no way to express it. Been there.
this scene has my heart
this scene made me super duper emotional

My boyfriend and I have been through a lot over the past 5.5 years. It took us many years to finally end up together, and I’ve never loved nor have I ever been loved this way.
Video Games was one of the songs I sent to him a long time ago as a reminder that whatever hard times we were going through, I’d do anything for him. Even if we weren’t together, whatever the circumstance, I still loved him. He was worth something to me.
Seeing Will in this scene, not wanting anything, just purely enjoying what little time he has left, getting a star for the girl he loves while this song is playing made me completely fall apart.
Humanity can be fucking rough. People can be evil. Its hard to trust anyone. And no one cares about each other.
But this. Seeing this. With the song I sent to the person I would transcend space and time for, that makes it all worth it
Perfect Ending of episode.
TV adaptation of this character is way better than the original. Original dude was kinda creepy in 2024s perspective.
Lmao yes
hands down the best arch so far. not that it has a lot of competition, but hey...
A very moving scene, made me cry even while rewatching it, that's how powerful it is. But this clip doesn't do it full justice, as the instrumental intro starts as the scene sets off at around 41:59 (episode 6). To me, it is precisely this lyrical detour, creating space for the scene to pan out adagio, while the (soon) well known song is creeping up on you, that is the magic of this segment.
This scene felt so magical because of videogames. It made me fall in love with the song even more ♥️
Eu acho que me emocionei em todas as cenas do Will.
When you see this scene and hear Lana singing "the world was built for two" and you read Death's End then you know 😎
Is that the final book?
@@banhbotloc94 yes that is the last book of the trilogy.
Hopefully in the show they will alter who “the two” are and do them justice
@@TheFFilippthat’s what I’m counting on 😢 tbh I think that’s what they’ll do since they’re building Will and Jin’s relationship

Ich wünschte, ich könnte diese Szene in Worte ausdrücken.
What episode?
I'm just gonna read the books, I need to know what happens with Will
Go read it, and thank yourself later.
Can they speed up the series creation, I'm kinda impatient waiting years for them to finish creating the sequels. I'm not motivated to read the book either, prefer something graphic. Probably I should create AI to generate webtoon / manga from novel.
Maybe audiobooks?
this means no adaptation for Redemption of Time
*f you've read the book you're definitely crying right now
I can already imagine him saying " our star , our star "
o tanto que amei essa cena não tá escrito
I want someone to love me as Will loves Jin.
Todo perfecto...
😢
Will is the perfect representation of man like me 😢
Will is such a tragic character. Even in the books he never really gets a happy ending.
The stone markings clearly say he had somewhat a happy life, not with Jin (Xin) though. Before that, even in the San-ti ship, he was a popular story writer and a good farmer, maybe a bit lonely, but overall not that bad.
@@alvinnnliu Oh, I totally understand your point dude, but imo without love or anyone to share it with, life has no real meaning. He never got to be with the one he loved, the one he did everything for, while being cut off by the rest of humanity and enslaved by its oppressors. I'd say that's pretty damn sad, my man.
Honestly I was kind of expecting a miracle to save him, and then he just fucking dies. Him and Augie were my favorite characters
Jin: I love him! Not: I loved him. So don't be disheartened!
The lords will save him maybe
Haven't read the books but does the star he buys happen to be one of the stars the San Ti's planet revolves around?
No, but Will buying the star is a really important plot. You will see.
Yun Tianming simping for Cheng Xin
Actually the core of the future happens in those 90 seconds. Not a spoiler - but this scene is so far reaching that it practically is even more important than Ye Wenjie hitting the button.
For the ones that read the books, just tell me Will didn't die pls! He was my favorite character in the series. 😢
I didn't read the books, but I read the synopsis.
*Spoilers*
You will see him again with his very own book of fairy tales, and he won't have to be a humble physicist anymore.
I'll say nothing else, but look forward to his works.

Selling stars is the biggest scam there is you don't even own it or could even reach it. This shit exist?
Oh man... You have no idea 😅
Sorry just watched this episode, can't get why he bought the star? (not sarcastic, but genuinely curious :')
Well the whole program is donating large sums of money to help humanity and in return you get your own star. I think Will felt like that this was a good use of money.
1. He can help humanity.
2. He can express his love for Jin.
Will got ripped off - there are more stars in the entire universe than people on earth, should've cost him
$100 lol

very so-so for me, but it did buy her eternal devotion, so... it worked
Don't stars cost like $100. Will got ripped off Baddddd.
thats namign a star i pretty sure this is QUITE literally buying the actual star
@@WardNightstone I bet you can do much when you own a star, right?
When the song says "Its you, Its you, Its all for you...everything I do" it kinda foreshadows what Will is going to do for the world.
Btw I am here to buy a star.
i don't care about names or money, and i have no interest in buying a star. the stars are for everyone. (including you)
Ngl, this scene (and his general storyline) frustrated the heck outta me.
This action came across as very selfish. As much as I can see this as a beautiful gesture; he could have been cherished, loved, and been such a devoted man. His biggest enemy was himself and these characters always irk me when they do shit like this an act like some silent hero.
BE LOVED YOU DESERVE IT.
Ps, I do like, from everyones inferences etc, that there is a payoff down the line for Will with his star. This man deserves a damn W. One that he should be allowed to experience. 😢
This man is going to save the entire human species, give him some credit. The storytelling is on next level in complexity and will take hundreds of years to pay off.
Omg he doesn't die he doesn't die!!!!!
@@roastpork5437 I'm not going to give him his dues simply because you know the story and you expect me to not go through the feelings the story illicits.
My impression is without the nuances you're aware of. I look at his current situation as being frustrating because it really tells the an old age story of unrequited love where he deserved to be love. His selfish actions that are depicted in the story can be taken in different lights but it makes him human. Humans can make stupid decisions; stupid decisions doesn't mean they're the wrong choice. Regardless, im hoping his story does have a pay off. And with the story telling, i know it'll be worth it. 😍🙌
I will give him this credit. Jin missed out a beautiful soul in this life. 😫😭🤧
@@noasegal4062 YYYYAAASSSSS. I hope he becomes a benevolent God tier leader. I did read an article on some of the changes between the book and the series with the creation of the Oxford 5, im excited to see how they explore the human experience of 1 person through 5 (or is it 4 till we get back Willy back).
Will will go down in history as one of the greatest men of the human race.
@West World
Scene aside when i see people buying stars it always makes me cringe lol, it's so pathetic. Your lifespan is a fart in the wind tf you "buying" a celestial body for.
Yeah lifespan is a fart in the wind, so why not buy if people are actually interested and have money? Someone could be an avid investor in space and technology, it’s childish to say it’s cringe. They r not even asking your money nor permission. Grow up
At least in the context of the show it is for a good cause allegedly
@@matyasdlouhy2868but Will doesn't even want to join the war effort. When he was being recruited, he says he isn't on the side of humanity, but is only Jin's side.
Gifting Jin a pricey gift without revealing yourself is already cringey to me, but then on top of that you spend your fortune on a fictitious star? That's just asking to get scammed.
Book readers say it's gonna be relevant later on, so here's to me suspending my judgement of this scene and waiting for the pay off.
@@markmywords3817hahahahah just wait....we Hope season 2 comes soon
Literally wasted 16 millions. Lol.
It pays off in the future. Literally.
When Jin learned that Will bought the star for her, her initial thought of how fool it was (wasting so much money for a piece of paper) is changed to be how tremendous his love to her was. She then made sure that his love is not wasted and loves him completely, though it was already too late.
So, is it a waste of money? Selfish, yes, because Jin is Will's priority even in his final breath and that's what he only cares about. But I don't think it's a waste of money, because the money was used to launched his brain into space, the only possible solution at the time to fight the Trisolaran people..
Not only that, but if you have read the books (including Redemption of Time) then this has a HUGE payoff in the far future.
@@FigmentForever I meant to say something else. It hardly cost 500$-1000$ to buy/gift a star. No company should charge 16 millions for it. 😁
