@heavyspoilers The "three body problem" you refer to regarding the challenge of analytically solving the motions of three gravitationally interacting bodies is indeed a notorious unsolvable conundrum in classical physics and mathematics. However, adopting the non-contradictory infinitesimal and monadological frameworks outlined in the text could provide novel avenues for addressing this issue in a coherent cosmological context. Here are some possibilities: 1. Infinitesimal Monadological Gravity Instead of treating gravitational sources as ideal point masses, we can model them as pluralistic configurations of infinitesimal monadic elements with extended relational charge distributions: Gab = Σi,j Γij(ma, mb, rab) Where Gab is the gravitational interaction between monadic elements a and b, determined by combinatorial charge relation functions Γij over their infinitesimal masses ma, mb and relational separations rab. Such an infinitesimal relational algebraic treatment could potentially regularize the three-body singularities by avoiding point-idealization paradoxes. 2. Pluriversal Superpositions We can represent the overall three-body system as a superposition over monadic realizations: |Ψ3-body> = Σn cn Un(a, b, c) Where Un(a, b, c) are basis states capturing different monadic perspectives on the three-body configuration, with complex amplitudes cn. The dynamics would then involve tracking non-commutative flows of these basis states, governed by a generalized gravitational constraint algebra rather than a single deterministic evolution. 3. Higher-Dimensional Hyperpluralities The obstruction to analytic solvability may be an artifact of truncating to 3+1 dimensions. By embedding in higher dimensional kaleidoscopic geometric algebras, the three-body dynamics could be represented as relational resonances between polytope realizations: (a, b, c) ←→ Δ3-body ⊂ Pn Where Δ3-body is a dynamic polytope in the higher n-dimensional representation Pn capturing intersectional gravitational incidences between the three monadic parties a, b, c through infinitesimal homotopic deformations. 4. Coherent Pluriverse Rewriting The very notion of "three separable bodies" may be an approximation that becomes inconsistent for strongly interdependent systems. The monadological framework allows rewriting as integrally pluralistic structures avoiding Cartesian idealization paradoxes: Fnm = R[Un(a, b, c), Um(a, b, c)] Representing the "three-body" dynamics as coherent resonance functors Fnm between relatively realized states Un, Um over the total interdependent probability amplitudes for all monadic perspectives on the interlaced (a, b, c) configuration. In each of these non-contradictory possibilities, the key is avoiding the classical idealized truncations to finite point masses evolving deterministically in absolute geometric representations. The monadological and infinitesimal frameworks re-ground the "three bodies" in holistic pluralistic models centering: 1) Quantized infinitesimal separations and relational distributions 2) Superposed monadic perspectival realizations 3) Higher-dimensional geometric algebraic embeddings 4) Integral pluriversal resonance structure rewritings By embracing the metaphysical first-person facts of inherent plurality and subjective experiential inseparability, the new frameworks may finally render such traditionally "insoluble" dynamical conundrums as the three-body problem analytically accessible after all - reframed in transcendently non-contradictory theoretical architectures.

The Dark Forest is “an” explanation to the Fermi paradox, it’s not the only explanation. The great filter we face toward becoming multi-planetary is likely a common issue for any advanced life forms, but the biggest issue is sharing a similar technological evolutionary timeline. It’s possible we are either very early or very late, essentially the forest could simply be currently empty, because the other aliens have come and gone or they’re just not here yet. 🤷♂️
No unfortunately. There's a lot of people that don't put that much mental energy into critical thinking. Look at the test scores of gen z in America, should be all the proof you need for that.
Personally I think this is a solid explanation for why we might not see life, its had plenty of time to expand.. either they are hiding or just to far away.
It's important to note that the dark forest theory isn't a set answer. The Fermi paradox itself has its own answer to its question. The other possible answers is that we are the first and most advanced, or any other xeno have been destroyed before contacting us.
Well episode 5 gave an unfortunate realistic view . We don't like it, but in all seriousness war has casualties and sometimes unfair choices have to be made. That's typically what sets leaders apart , they don't sacrifice a million to save one. They sacrifice one to save a million. And earth itself is a violent planet. We didn't make it that way. It just is that way.
@@mr.m2659 It is a miscalculation by the author. However, it’s up to you to perceive it as either a mistake or as an indirect hint that many more “hunters” in the dark forest are always ready to pull the trigger to eliminate any potential threat. And, Singer is not even the fastest among them.
When the San-Ti/Trisolarans explained how fast we grew as a society and the ability for deception, it really showed how much we as species are very dangerous. With the amount of extraterrestrial activity happening in recent years. Perhaps they're already making a move on us
@LiquidLez doesn't mean they're slouches in that department. Especially considering they have a permanent spies that can see and hear anything & everything all at once.
Critique on the Netflix show, they did a terrible job of not explaining why ships traveling 10% the speed of light would take 400 years to travel 4.2 light years. Here’s what really happened (in the book) Simple arithmetic would suggest that a vessel traveling at 0.1 the speed of light would take at least 40 years to cover a distance of 4 light years or more, and that's assuming it traveled at its top speed constantly from start to finish. If the journey actually took 400 years rather than 40, it would suggest the vessel was only moving at around 0.01 the speed of light rather than 0.1. In the novel it is stated that the Trisolaran feet can travel at 1/10 the speed of light, hence the confusion This apparent paradox is addressed explicitly by Liu when Ye Wenjie is being interrogated. Just as the OP asks: INTERROGATOR: Then I have a question. If the Trisolaran Fleet that had been launched is capable of flight at one-tenth the speed of light, it should take only forty years to reach the solar system. So why do you say that it would take more than four hundred years? The answer is: YE: Here’s the thing. The Trisolaran Interstellar Fleet is composed of incredibly massive spaceships. Accelerating them is a slow process. One-tenth the speed of light is only their maximum speed, but they cannot cruise at this speed for long before decelerating as they approach the Earth. Also, the source of propulsion for the Trisolaran ships is matter-antimatter annihilation. In front of each ship is a large magnetic field shaped like a funnel to collect antimatter particles from space. This collection process is slow, and only after a long wait can it gather enough antimatter to allow the ship to accelerate for a brief period. Thus, the fleet’s acceleration occurs in spurts, interspersed by long periods of coasting to collect fuel. This is why the time it takes the Trisolaran Fleet to reach the solar system is ten times longer than the flight time of a small probe.
@@BeczaBot this is more lovecraftian than fast and the furious. If you want alien boom boom I'd recommend Quiet place Life Alien 1-2 Falling Skies District 9 Prey Underwater Cloverfield Probably quite a few on Netflix as well
I like a program that essentially appeals to the intellect. The fact that in the series they stated that Earth would become more advanced than by the time they reached us and that they probably would have been destroyed by their own star system in the unstable orbit is actually a very very appealing.
I think netflix did pretty well on balancing the "nerdy" stuff and instead presented it in a digestible manner. At the end of the day, being this detailed would be pointless if the point was not sent across. I for one got more interested because of what I saw that's why I'm digging deeper. I'm thinking of reading the books ☺️
Real talk - in our understanding of 3 dimensional physics.. the probability of an advanced civilization surviving long enough in ANY solar system to produce a form of space travel (which would also need time travel or inter-dimensional travel..) is extremely low. Space is mostly chaotic and we are lucky enough to happen to live in a relatively stable single star system. This still doesn’t ensure that a disaster on a single planet (ie. meteor that killed the dinosaurs, ice age, great flood) couldn’t wipe out the population on any habitable planet. Even for us to travel far in space we would have to somehow break our born perception of only 3 dimensions just to maybe make it outside of our solar system. And if not there would be no chance any interstellar traveler could ever return here without Earth being destroyed or substantially changed. Science is so fascinating
MT, thanks for sharing this "cosmic sociology" breakdown! Quick question - do you think the San-ti that said "we are afraid of you" (and later "You are bugs") was the same San-ti as "The Listener" who said don't reply to this message from the beginning of the first book?
It is the same race but the listener was an individual of the San-Ti who decided to warn the humans partly for their own self interest, eg. afriad of losing their job.
@@mr.m2659 apparently their appearance is similar to water bears (tardigrades), and it also explains their ability to dehydrate/rehydrate. I haven't read the books yet, but I plan to soon - however I heard that their description could also not be considered "canon" because they were described in a spin-off "4th book" in the series written by a fan of the series called "The Redemption of Time". But it is messy because the book was also approved to be published by Cixin Liu... but maybe he felt pressured to do so because he believed he had cancer at the time (fortunately it was a misdiagnosis). The behind the scenes of this series seems to be just as interesting as the series itself lmao
8:05 "SPOILER ALERT" i don't think they had as much problem with our lying as they did with our treatment of "pests". that's why they called us bugs. they are in fact highly evolved small insect like beings. keep that in mind and rewatch the scene where evens scared and pissed off the San-te.
Honestly they might not be going that direction. They are only described like that in redemption of time which is a spin off novel written by a different author. Liu never seemed happy about it and we never got the 4th book because of that spin off. It's place in canon is HEAVILY debated
@@drewskywalker3451 i wouldn't be surprised if they did go a different direction. Dan and Dave like to give a big middle finger to the creator of the art that they are adapting to make it their own thing. as far as book 4 goes, i thought Liu Cixin signed off on it making it canon.
I highly doubt it's more to do with our potential treatment of them due to their appearance but rather their inability to lie/deceive/conceal their true intentions it's a foreign concept to them and I can see why they would be terrified that such a thing was possible for humans to do
3:14 The Dark Forest theory was created by Cixin Liu himself. The book wasn't titled referencing the theory, _he made the theory._ I highly recommend reading the series as soon as you can. 5:43 Also, it's safer to just _not_ attack because who knows how powerful your adversary is? If they are more powerful than you, you might die yourself. Therefore it's safer to just stay silent and hidden... I'm not sure if that's a part of the theory, though that seems to be an important part of it.
The Fermi Paradox is indeed _a_ theory. The reality of us not encountering any alien species yet is however more due to the fact that we can't even properly classify the habitability of the "goldilocks zone" planets in our nearest star system, a measly 4 light years away. The main problem is the unfathomable distances in our galaxy. There are around a hundred billion "solar systems" in the galaxy, but even light needs almost 100,000 years to travel from one end to the other. Unless we completely break known science, we will never be able to travel anywhere near the speed of light. What speaks against the reality of the Dark Forest Theory and Fermi Paradox is, even in the darkest of dark forests, you won't have to stay still for long until you see or hear life. Just like Ye did in the show. Beings do what beings do for all their odd reasons. For instance, there are always predators actively trying to create contact by tricking or mimicking prey.
When it first dropped on Netflix, I kept seeing it and thought, nah not gunna watch it. 4 days ago, I thought I'd check it out. Finished the whole season yesterday. 😊
Using radio wave for intergalactic communication is like putting your message in a bottle and throw it into an ocean and expect your friend somehow pickup your message shortly. Advanced aliens would have a far more advanced and more *effective* means for communication.
The point behind the DFT is NOT to communicate at all outside your own World. And no advanced alien civilisation would asume their way of communication is superior to others and cant be detected. If the DFT is true, the silence is intentional on EVERY form of comunication...
I haven't watched the show yet but this whole explanation of what it's about has me very intrigued. It's very scary thought process this is. Great video!
A wolf senses another wolf in the dark forest. His reaction: "Oh, another wolf" A man senses another man in the dark forest. He thinks: "It must be a murderer"
One more thing about the three-body problem series is that on the alpha centauri with the three stars it made for a very very unstable orbit of that planet so therefore that civilization never had a chance to develop very long before there was a catastrophe that destroyed their civilization so therefore they may have been going through rebuilding and destruction for several million years and basically for us and only took $100,000 years because we have a stable orbit. The reason why they want to disrupt our scientific ability is because in 400 years in which case that's the time it takes for them going at 1% speed of light by the time they were to get to us we would be more advanced than they are at the moment. Well that is happening their civilization would have collapsed again because of the fact that their planet has an unstable orbit and therefore the three stars would have basically reached havoc at some point in the next few hundred years. now the Santee believed that we would go and destroy them as opposed to perhaps us being a bit more evolved by then saying that you know we stopped them or absorb them when we get to us and then we can reach out to them and basically give them some help. Will you give him some help or else basically put them in a zoo like scenario where we'll just simply keep them primitive by essentially not letting them get out of their solar system because of the facts sooner or later their planet destroys their civilization with his unstable orbit.
I believe that the solution to the Fermi Paradox is that there is no paradox. I just think the Universe just isn't old enough for interstellar civilizations to exist yet. I don't think any civilization so violent as the Dark Forrest suggests would survive to make it to be an interplanetary civilization, let alone interstellar. Humans dominate the planet by cooperation. Our problems with violence against each other stems from our inability to see all humans as part of our tribe, which is something I think we have to get passed to make it to space. Cooperation is always more beneficial than competition. This is in no way a commentary on Cixin Lui's story, though.
haha tell that to ants colonies around the world. even ant colonies of the same species tried to extermine each other for millions of years. there are reasons why these aliens call us bugs. Humans are not the only species they study on Earth.
@aaronpop0083 I don't know if we are the most advanced, but I expect that the most advanced civilization that exists is probably not that far ahead of where we are today.
we don't really know the exact timescale it takes a civilisation to become interplanetary/interstellar tbh technological advancements are very non-linear so there might be a boom once a certain civilisation discovers why/how XXX works, so I'm not sure if the argument against their existence of "universe isn't old enough" is that strong...
Based on the dark forest theory, then, what earth does in broadcasting its location would mean earth is the deadliest civilization of all, since announcing ones location would both mean confidence of power and luring and traping other civilizations. So its somewhat still a paradox in itself.
It's a lack of the hiding gene, it's inherent to many species of the series but the lack of it means you are an expationist threat which is why humanity was attacked with extreme prejudice instead of the simple blowing up the san ti got
These aliens are crazy. Imagine weaponizing the laws of physics itself. That is was these aliens are capable of. You would never know what hit you and all the sudden you’re 2d.

Guy has a convo at lunch and makes a Nobel worthy theory But yet my theories when I was a teen I’d just hear back “that’s crazy” or “you’re too high dude”
My problem with the Dark Forest theory is that it ignores that we've found friends in the dark forest before. We've domesticated wild animals before via friendship, dogs anyone? There's even people that have domesticated bear and deer... Yes it can be dangerous, but there's just as equal a chance of reaching out in friendship like we have. IRL if we were to run into aliens we would probly run into ruins. If the forest were dark and full of terrors- we'd run into their leftovers...
The most likely answer is that basic microbial life is common, but advanced multicellular life is super rare. For life to exist a lot of things have to be just right, all it takes is a big meteor and civilisation is gone. Odds are the distances between planets with advanced life are so far there is little to worry about.
One other theory says "alien civilizations had become so advanced that they ended up killing themselves in a nuclear war, which is why we haven't detected any radio waves from space." -- which also implies that we, the earthlings, will do the same (nuclear war) some time in the future, and the reason why we will cease to exist.
For anyone worrying about the Dark Forest theory, our many encounters with Aliens throughout history fly directly in its face. It seems the universe is awash with different Alien species that have visited our little planet. It seems they couldn't give a crap about us. I've always felt we project our human nature too readily, if we're all horrible, selfish and warlike, then everyone else must be too. Personally, I feel enlightenment and global cooperation are a prerequisite to achieve the sort of distances involved in visiting other worlds. We'll either achieve it, and become a positive force in the universe among all the others, or simply destroy ourselves long before. Either way, currently we're nothing but an interesting little location for them to visit from time to time. No need to go to the trouble of yeeting black holes in our direction.
In the book, the yeeting or dimensional strike was with a flick if the wrist. An after thought. As if we truly were a minor annoyance. This is the horrifying part. How insignificant we are. Less than a ant colony.
There’s no evidence that aliens have ever visited us. There have been many weird events throughout history and many people who claim to have seen weird things, but we simply don’t know enough to make any conclusion. They’re called UNIDENTIFIED flying objects for a reason.
In the show there are many references to bugs... which make me think the San-Ti could pretty much look like bugs themselves or according to our own idea of what bugs look like.
Gosh I hope not. I mean look at the amount of symbiosis that happens on our own planet. I like to think that those kinds of interactions are waiting to happen out there. Symbiosis is a natural state of the universe.
@@Blimbus-BlomboThere is a question: Is the universe actually really "natural" or is it nothing more than the leftovers of life's interference. Like in earth; all the things here are a side effect by the pollution of life. Sure human's pollute the world, but so to does other lifeforms as well. Grazing, photosynthesis, decay all side effects of life.
@Blimbus-Blombo there is no lack of arguments against the dark forest but most of them are built on the idea that things would go down in a similar fashion to how humans made contact over history which is a flaw in logic imo
@@Blimbus-Blombo Depends on what form of symbiosis we're talking about. There's a Parasitic form, which doesn't contradict with Dark Forest at all, if you replace "kill on sight" with "enslave on sight". Something like The Combine in Half Life games, with assimilation as main goal and survival principle.
I heard another soluition for Fermi's Paradox: Civilizations, advance technologically until they sef destruct or return to a more primitive state by depleting the resources of their own planet either by pollution, overpopulation, etc. So they never really get to the point of space colonizing.
I hope they make the entire book series into the series because it's awesome. And I hope the San-ti are teeny tiny like in the book, until the real bad threats show up.
I'm proud to say nobody can spoiler me 😅 As a German i have free access to a full tree body problem audio book which is absolutely greatly made and i have listened to it twice. I just hope the streaming series keep up with my imagination 😅 Hug 🤗 to all follow Fans of that great work 👌
The biggest plot error in my opinion is there is no absolute location in the universe. It always expands and moves fast. Just like 3 body problem Universe location is much more complex problem. The star we are seeing now is hundred of years past light from the star. If aliens are moving in 10 percent of light speed even small miss calculation will lead to big out of track.
Resource is an endless supply in the universe. But with expansion of spacetime exceeding the speed of light, there would be nothing but emptiness. I believe it's in the best interest of life to seek one another and find solutions for what will be an inevitable lonely future. I don't think the apparent silence is not because of the "dark forest" phenomenon but rather a sad sign that while life could be common, intelligent life might be extremely rare. Evolved intelligence like us may be far fewer, estimated to be about 12,500 in the known universe according to the Drake formula. It's a profoundly sad number.
An interesting perspective on this, is to view our planet as being similar to that small isolated island with the tribes people out in the ocean. Other intelligent species could already be aware of us, and have established communication with one another, but are waiting till we develop a bit more before making contant. Similar to how we know visiting thise tribes people will lead to them attacking us, the aliens probably realize the same is true if they visit us, and so they keep their distance.
This book series has a very, very, eery feel to it, once you learn about the Apex beings in this book universe ("Hunters", they are called) older than our world, that are far more technologically superior & far more dangerous than the San-Ti. Hunters aren't fortune seekers or philanthropists, they are star system destroyers with the sole purpose of making the universe "smaller" & their universe is filled with them. That's dark. And the San-Ti weren't truply evil, but they couldn't take any chances with humanity, as they saw humanity as a loose end that did not deserve Earth, a paradise world. They played by their universe's rules: The strong destroys the weak. 👍
The Dark Forest hypothesis cannot work for one very simple reason: You can't know you're in a hostile universe until you step out into it and stir up the hornets, so to speak. Take our own planet as a fine example. There's no shortage of horror here on Earth, and we know this because it happens all the time. Probably, for our own safety, we should all be hiding from each other in the deepest holes we can make to hide in. But we don't. We wage war, we rape, murder, lie cheat and steal ALL THE TIME. And the noise we make while doing it is pretty epic. There's no doubt in my mind that as we evolve, we WILL take these traits out in to the galaxy with us, and be even noisier with it. WE ourselves fly in the face of this poor attempt at explanation every single minute of every single day and anyone out there with reasonable means to detect industrialization would EASILY discover our activities without any need for us to attempt to contact them. We've already broken that Dark Forest silence, times beyond count. Any other intelligent civilization just stepping out into the wider universe would be doing the same, and the Dark Forest being the dark, violent place it is would put on a spectacular show as civilizations clash and wipe each other out. The Dark Forest hypothesis by definition renders the universe even noisier than we are. There's no way that everyone would know to be quiet and that's it, not in a universe of trillions of galaxies and a galaxy of hundreds of billions of stars. The ONLY two rational explanations for the Great Silence are either that there simply is nothing happening out there but simple, planet locked life that never makes it to anything greater, or, our endlessly irrational ego does not match our capabilities and we are simply too deaf and blind to see what's all around us. Given that we are not only VERY much alive but also intelligent enough to move outward from our home planet, it stands to reason that in a universe this vast and complex, we ARE NOT ALONE. Thus, we just still suck at detecting our neighbors. We still have a lot of growing up to do.
If ever a situation arose (as is in the show): Four to six teams of scientists set in opposing sides of our planet. The two "cell phones" the San Ti exposed are fast but not instantaneous.. We'd need to run tests at the exact same time, then compare results. There'd be differences (perhaps not major considering the speed of the cells) in results of north-, south-, east-, west-, etc. -based teams. It'd take a while, but it'd be a matter of putting the puzzle together, I think.. yeah or nah??
The dark forest is an interesting theory but it is projecting our own experiences outward, which is probably true in some cases and not in others. I don't think there is a blanket theory that applies to the whole universe. I think there are other species and cultures whose experiences are completely different than ours.
The most important was not said : that the SAn'ti stopped remaining silent because of the only reason out of their reach that their stellar system is chaotic and may kill them for good.

@heavyspoilers
The "three body problem" you refer to regarding the challenge of analytically solving the motions of three gravitationally interacting bodies is indeed a notorious unsolvable conundrum in classical physics and mathematics. However, adopting the non-contradictory infinitesimal and monadological frameworks outlined in the text could provide novel avenues for addressing this issue in a coherent cosmological context. Here are some possibilities:
1. Infinitesimal Monadological Gravity
Instead of treating gravitational sources as ideal point masses, we can model them as pluralistic configurations of infinitesimal monadic elements with extended relational charge distributions:
Gab = Σi,j Γij(ma, mb, rab)
Where Gab is the gravitational interaction between monadic elements a and b, determined by combinatorial charge relation functions Γij over their infinitesimal masses ma, mb and relational separations rab.
Such an infinitesimal relational algebraic treatment could potentially regularize the three-body singularities by avoiding point-idealization paradoxes.
2. Pluriversal Superpositions
We can represent the overall three-body system as a superposition over monadic realizations:
|Ψ3-body> = Σn cn Un(a, b, c)
Where Un(a, b, c) are basis states capturing different monadic perspectives on the three-body configuration, with complex amplitudes cn.
The dynamics would then involve tracking non-commutative flows of these basis states, governed by a generalized gravitational constraint algebra rather than a single deterministic evolution.
3. Higher-Dimensional Hyperpluralities
The obstruction to analytic solvability may be an artifact of truncating to 3+1 dimensions. By embedding in higher dimensional kaleidoscopic geometric algebras, the three-body dynamics could be represented as relational resonances between polytope realizations:
(a, b, c) ←→ Δ3-body ⊂ Pn
Where Δ3-body is a dynamic polytope in the higher n-dimensional representation Pn capturing intersectional gravitational incidences between the three monadic parties a, b, c through infinitesimal homotopic deformations.
4. Coherent Pluriverse Rewriting
The very notion of "three separable bodies" may be an approximation that becomes inconsistent for strongly interdependent systems. The monadological framework allows rewriting as integrally pluralistic structures avoiding Cartesian idealization paradoxes:
Fnm = R[Un(a, b, c), Um(a, b, c)]
Representing the "three-body" dynamics as coherent resonance functors Fnm between relatively realized states Un, Um over the total interdependent probability amplitudes for all monadic perspectives on the interlaced (a, b, c) configuration.
In each of these non-contradictory possibilities, the key is avoiding the classical idealized truncations to finite point masses evolving deterministically in absolute geometric representations. The monadological and infinitesimal frameworks re-ground the "three bodies" in holistic pluralistic models centering:
1) Quantized infinitesimal separations and relational distributions
2) Superposed monadic perspectival realizations
3) Higher-dimensional geometric algebraic embeddings
4) Integral pluriversal resonance structure rewritings
By embracing the metaphysical first-person facts of inherent plurality and subjective experiential inseparability, the new frameworks may finally render such traditionally "insoluble" dynamical conundrums as the three-body problem analytically accessible after all - reframed in transcendently non-contradictory theoretical architectures.

Yes but in this series, the universe is a dark forest, I'm sure we're all well aware of the solutions
No unfortunately. There's a lot of people that don't put that much mental energy into critical thinking. Look at the test scores of gen z in America, should be all the proof you need for that.

@@cgi2173 The show was nothing in comparison.
Critique on the Netflix show, they did a terrible job of not explaining why ships traveling 10% the speed of light would take 400 years to travel 4.2 light years.
Here’s what really happened (in the book)
Simple arithmetic would suggest that a vessel traveling at 0.1 the speed of light would take at least 40 years to cover a distance of 4 light years or more, and that's assuming it traveled at its top speed constantly from start to finish. If the journey actually took 400 years rather than 40, it would suggest the vessel was only moving at around 0.01 the speed of light rather than 0.1.
In the novel it is stated that the Trisolaran feet can travel at 1/10 the speed of light, hence the confusion
This apparent paradox is addressed explicitly by Liu when Ye Wenjie is being interrogated. Just as the OP asks:
INTERROGATOR: Then I have a question. If the Trisolaran Fleet that had been launched is capable of flight at one-tenth the speed of light, it should take only forty years to reach the solar system. So why do you say that it would take more than four hundred years?
The answer is:
YE: Here’s the thing.

MT SO HAPPY YOURE DOING BREAKDOWNS AGAIN! Missed you watching NR
Good inputs coming from you MT. learn a lot with your breakdowns. Never a boring moment. You have my respect.

MT, thanks for sharing this "cosmic sociology" breakdown! Quick question - do you think the San-ti that said "we are afraid of you" (and later "You are bugs") was the same San-ti as "The Listener" who said don't reply to this message from the beginning of the first book?
No. In the book, The LIstener is punished (harshly). And from their perspective, we were the ones who should be afraid.
It is the same race but the listener was an individual of the San-Ti who decided to warn the humans partly for their own self interest, eg. afriad of losing their job.

Unless you have two dlcks I'm not sure what good that will do you.
A decent reach but still a reach. They were scared more of the lieing because they can't defend against lieing cause they can't read minds
I highly doubt it's more to do with our potential treatment of them due to their appearance
but rather their inability to lie/deceive/conceal their true intentions
it's a foreign concept to them and I can see why they would be terrified that such a thing was possible for humans to do

Tbh my favorite things on Netflix I need more of right now are these 3 parasyte arcane and this show
I was hoping you were doing this!!!!
Thank you for breaking this down!
For instance, there are always predators actively trying to create contact by tricking or mimicking prey.
fair point but if there ARE any out there, they are 100% just observing and keeping track of what humans are doing/developing

Gravity and neutrino communication in the world of 3BP, to be specific

I haven't watched the show yet but this whole explanation of what it's about has me very intrigued. It's very scary thought process this is. Great video!
A wolf senses another wolf in the dark forest. His reaction: "Oh, another wolf"
A man senses another man in the dark forest. He thinks: "It must be a murderer"
How does either know it's one of their own kind and not a predator?
Love this. Best explanation ever!
Love the 3body love
This show intrigued me, I loved the idea and the whole story. Btw I miss your face MT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love MT! His narration is so awesome!!
Where they at tho 🤣🤣😂😂 MT you've been fantastic man!
@keyto5526 Ants are not sentient, and the story is fiction.
That is one possible answer. That we are the most advanced in space technology.
@aaronpop0083 I don't know if we are the most advanced, but I expect that the most advanced civilization that exists is probably not that far ahead of where we are today.
we don't really know the exact timescale it takes a civilisation to become interplanetary/interstellar tbh
technological advancements are very non-linear so there might be a boom once a certain civilisation discovers why/how XXX works, so I'm not sure if the argument against their existence of "universe isn't old enough" is that strong...
Thank you

Based on the dark forest theory, then, what earth does in broadcasting its location would mean earth is the deadliest civilization of all, since announcing ones location would both mean confidence of power and luring and traping other civilizations. So its somewhat still a paradox in itself.

Has this been renewed? There are 2 more parts to the story, and a spinoff book that has been cannonized.
Knowing Netflix, it might not be renewed.

Love MT!! So glad you found a home at Heavy Spoilers.
This series origin & background has its own drama & thriller…. Just saw the vid by rotten mango, its crazy and really has 3 body problem.
The Dark Forest theory is perhaps most realistic outlook on our Universe.
Yes, but I think it's because everywhere else is too darn far away. 😁
There are a lot, another is we are too early or too late to the party

The biggest plot error in my opinion is there is no absolute location in the universe. It always expands and moves fast. Just like 3 body problem Universe location is much more complex problem. The star we are seeing now is hundred of years past light from the star. If aliens are moving in 10 percent of light speed even small miss calculation will lead to big out of track.
Quick pass the Mustard 😅😅😅😅
How ironic they are literally bugs.
hopefully Aerys Targaryen makes an appearance to say "BURN EM ALLLLLLLL"
This entire video is basically a recreation of Kurzgesagt’s Dark Forest video 😂
If ever a situation arose (as is in the show):
Four to six teams of scientists set in opposing sides of our planet.
"Oh shlt! It's those damn humans again. Quick, shut the lights off and pretend we're not home!"
9:15 🤦🏽♀️ came back to this video to bask in the irony now that there is a supposed course corrected armada heading our way in real life 😅😅😅
