Leon has the most high level experience, he's been playing professional mind games and breaking down vulnerabilities for the longest of these players. Thats what i think made the difference, he was very VERY focused on getting underneath kiligramhours and made a lot of openings for himself by playing to his landing weakness. The other competitors struggled to exploit circumstantial weaknesses and create vulnerabilities to the same degree of effectiveness. It was really cool to watch the underdog take it to the very end. and it was even cooler to watch the run come down to very split second decisions stemming from a high level understanding that some top players can't make as well as others. Thanks for putting this on Poppt1, it was a lot of fun to watch!
@@offbeatecho3057 yeah its definitely not the years of high level professional experience Leon has compared to the 8th seed DDD. He definitely won because of character design and not the player skill!

I never watch competitive smash.... like ever. But gathering the best heavies in the world is a genius move from poppt as he's trying to grow the audience of competitive smash. These players have the same skill level of top players but don't have the lame play styles of characters such as sonic or Steve. These sets were fun exciting and got me to watch more competitive smash. GREAT VID POPPT!!! :)
So the interesting thing about Kazuya is that he isn't a super heavyweight by the most commonly cited definition, which is a higher weight than sandbag's 115. He still gets lumped in for obvious reasons, he FEELS like a super heavyweight and nothing else, but he also has a weight of 113. So you can argue that Kazuya is technically not a valid character here. I'm kinda sad we never saw a solo charizard though.
This is top-tier Smash. Heavies are playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Little or no combos, just neutral reads and mind games. 11/10, I hope this gets run again.
I get tired of fighting games that have combos (funny how hard it is to escape that kind of thing) because rather than relying on actual skill and the specific kit of your character or fighter to cover for you in a dynamic way and a wide set of circumstances, these mf’s who do combos just figure out who can stunlock other people to death the best.

It would have been cool for there to be a surprise championship match against Hero, a Japanese player who’s currently ranked 47th in the world and the best Bowser in the entire world
Ok, yes, Jet Hammer is a bad move on paper, but in reality, in a tournament setting, that move is STRESSFUL. Like KGH said, on release, it comes out in 10 frames, which is faster than every move on Dedede’s kit other than up and down tilt and nair. It’s as fast as his jab. That move being charged, easy for Dedede to do with gordos, is massively scary. It causes a lot of panic scenarios, which I think is why Leon of all people was able to deal with it so well. He’d seen it, he knew what to expect, and he didn’t let the pressure cause him to panic. KGH plays a very psychological game, and Leon finally reached a point where he could handle the pressure.
