Hey, what’s up, guys? I hope you enjoyed another project. Please remember that this video product is meant for entertainment purposes only and intended for people of driving age, and that is not “made for kids”. Also Please Keep in mind I am not a professional and I have no professional training so don’t try this at home. If you decide to modify or fixing your own vehicle please keep it legal, roadworthy, and most importantly SAFE. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you on the next project! ✌
WJs look way better than any new Jeep. Worth the repairs. Good score on the control arms, looking forward to those vids.
Right on! thanks for 5h4 encouragement brother!
@@ProjectDanH its the rear lower control arm the problems?
@@ProjectDanH hello my steering its hard when i drive highway for what?
I feel that the scenes on your channel when you drive past your camera on a open road are underappreciated. Bravo man!
Thanks man!!! alot of walking in that 10 second clip!
@@ProjectDanH 👍
Moral of the story? You must replace 1 bushing and/or joint/tie for every 3 trouble codes. Multiply the number of years sitting by .86 and add. So you need a minimum of 7 bushings ....
I knew there was some wacky Jeep formula for these bushings!!! Thanks for the tip 😉
@@ProjectDanH hello its realy the rear control arm cause the swing rear at the left and right??
DAN: "I'm feeling something right now..."
ME: "I wonder what he ate..."
LMAO! I was gonna say ... And it's not taco Bell 🤣🤣🤣
WJ has a ball joint on top of the rear end, they are prone to failure.
Another common fault death Wobble, I found the JK Upper Moog Bushing fits the WJ trackbar, Have to drill out the hole to 9/16" I'll be replacing the lower with the same JK Bushing on the lower end too.
Another common fault was a TSB about Brakes causing Death Wobble, if its 02 or older replace with the upgraded ones from 03/04. Bad about warped brake rotors.
That's pretty cool! probably cheaper than getting a whole new track bar
@@ProjectDanH Here is the JK bushing I used. I did polish the hole of the WJ Track Bar, the bushing measured 1.55" and hole of the TB is 1.51" and mine was 1.49" so not perfect, but my 12 ton press had no issues.
I really believe thjere was an engineering fault from Chrysler on the WJ, in using type bushings they did....
Good Luck with it,

replace that rear upper ball joint and upper a arm
yeah I'm definitely going to have to get around to that one!
You already knew you couldn’t just give up on a Jeep like that. Excited to see what’s to come !!
haha! ya got me 😉
Nice score on the control arms, however I would still suggest either replacing the rear upper ball joint and if it's lifted adding a spacer block on it or changing out the rear a-arm all together with a fabricated unit that uses flex joints and eliminates the rear ball joint. Iron rock and Rustys Offroad makes one, as does a smaller fab shop called Ironman4x4. That's what I did, as I found after lifting and changing out the rear ball joint, the lift placed enough stress on it to blow it out after only a couple of months. I went with the Ironman4x4 unit as it uses flex joints on all corners and was a really simple install. Solved all the rear end wandering problems.
Thanks brother! That's a solid comment right there 💪💪
I had to get my beetle a salvage title, fixed it, inspected, and then a rebuilt title. That process too three months and cost more than i bought it for.
My $300 new beetle cost $1K in total but totally worth it
My 2002 4.0 WJ was pain in the ass, but I love it. Front and rear control arms, A arm, track bar, sway links, TPS, IAC, CPS, rods and rockers, undeleting the AC, plus body work and lift... Yeah. Just empty every pocket. 😂
Nice Jon brother! empty pockets but you'll have a brand new 20 year old Jeep!
Sad to hear you almost gave up on the WJ
Can’t wait i to see what you have planned in the future
yeah... my Jeep plate is full but it drives great now.. stay tuned for more WJ content
A+ for the darkwing duck reference. Used to play the video game too.

sounds like we'd get along just fine!
Mine needed the bushings in the boomerang the ball joint was fine, but why go through all that...I also took advise from Martinbuilt and got the Addco larger rear heavy duty sway bar, to reduce body roll and tail steer was also reduced. I'm toying with the Eibach 1 inch lowering springs.
man.. martin built has a sweet WJ.. I'm gonna lift not drop tho. lol

Glad you enjoy it! 😁
Literally just bought an 03 laredo, this series is so informative, kinda jelly he's getting free parts but congrats for him on being able to get his wj running right and more content for us tubers.
Thanks brother! I try to get you guys Discount codes for every product I use! Gotta spread the wealth! 😁
I had this happen on one of my 99's. Little scary to say the least. But don't forget about inspecting the rear UPPER A-frame "control arm" and its center ball joint. Bushings at the body are known for crapping out. Congrats on the parts acquisition. And as always GOOD LUCK, my friend.
Thanks brother! A lot of people have suggested that upper A arm.. Definitely going to have to check it out!
I have the floatiest JGC Overland in the world.
Just recieved my rear upper suspension bush - from TEXAS, no less - the damn car is undriveable/
The Overland was supposed to be loer than standard, but some previous owner lifted it 2".
Horrible to drive.
Pissed the wheel alignment guy off, I tell you.
good thing everything is fixable! good luck
Check the wires around the muffler! Just solved that problem and cleared p1499 p0051 and p0031
'rear stear' is the rear upper A arm.
All typical issues, anything ith a bushing will need a refresher.
Got a 04 4.7 with 288k km.
Thanks man! I'll definitely be doing an A arm vid soon. Thanks for the comments!
Welcome to the old WJ club... Save yourself some aggravation and just go to the parts store and buy every suspension part they make for it. The rear upper has that crazy ball joint on the diff and I can tell you from experience the ones on each end are toast as well, it drives like it has a hinge in the middle when those are loose and I am sure they are. Replace the lowers as well. Same up front, uppers and lowers, do the track bar as well. Don't wimp out doing the axle bushings for the uppers. They are a pain in the ASS but must be done, trust me on this. When you get death wobble at 70 mph you will know what I mean. I have an 04 Limited 4.7HO that was given to me in a much abused state with 145,000 on it. I put a pile into it engine and suspension wise but now it rides great and is reliable as a rock. I do know these things inside and out now, that's for sure.
Thanks Charlie! I love your comment. BTW had DW at 70 already and already filmed my track bar vid. I'll definitely take your advice and buy more suspension parts! 👍👍
I hate a problem me too my jeep ist going right and left for nothing raison
That upper control arm on the rear plays a BIG PART in your rear play, steering ..... the upper is one peace and has a ball joint dead center on the rear.. pain in the butt to change
I'm on it!
Lower rear control arm replaced fixed mine
yes indeed!
Hey Dan, jeep looks good
Thank you!!
Nice clean looking wj how’s the HO run for ya. Rear 3 point link ???? Hope it’s just the lowers but do look very well at the upper 3 point cuz if ya buy upper and lowers it’s a lot cheaper than buying lowers then buy uppers it’s like 75.00 more than buying all at once.
Upper and lowers are done! runs amazing!
Surprised you got Vermont plates most people in Vermont have pieces of paper in their back window or cardboard plates right now lol should have done it in NH
That's hilarious.. I didn't do it, I just forked over some cash and had the plates gotten for me 🤣
@@ProjectDanH easier that way
@@TheBeardedJeeper totally
It's probably the bushings. My XJ used to crabwalk until I got the springs and bushings replaced.
Check the ball joint in the rear too!
Haha it totally crab walks! The bushings were a success.. I'll do the A arm too
Hey Dano, sorry the test drive didn't work out well.Sounds like it is already taken care of though...When one door is closed another one will open.👍👍💪💪
Amen to that Danno!
So the feeling of driving a boat on the highway is your upper and lower control arms... I have the same thing going on. Just got Detroit Axle in the mail today and putting them on this week
Badass bro! Let me know how it goes!
@@ProjectDanH hopefully they'll be done tomorrow. I'm starting to get sea sick on the highway 😂
Might as well do the rear upper a-arm while you're replacing the control arm's; bushings could be bad as well.
Have you thought of replacing the wheels w/more modern GC wheels? Offer up here in AZ has a lot of nice & inexpensive newer GC wheels, 18's & 20's in black, that would look great on a WJ. Might give it a look before you buy new tires.
yea... I'm sure I'll get to the A-arm eventually. I have considered new Jeep takeoffs.. just gotta find the right style 😁
Hi Dan! Hi. I had some play in Traction bar. Had a friend turn the wheel left and right on the ground as I inspected it. It was moving. When i removed it, it looked fine but replaced it anyway since already had a new one. I also noticed my both sides upper and lower tie rod endings were loose by rotating the center bar by hand and the upper right (passenger) was thumping. I'm guessing they aren't soposed to be moving??Rev?
So checked again after installing new track bar and still moving but very minimal.
Good of you to replace the track bar! any ball joint should be tight... especially on a tie rod end.
@@ProjectDanH. Yeah, I can grip the bar and rotate it between the tie rods and easily move the tie rod ball joints. Last alignment was 6 months ago at Firestone, I asked if tie rods were good, they said fine. Not! I got lifetime alignment there so think I'm just gonna have them replace the tie rods.
Good idea! Ya gotta align it if you get tire rods right?
@@ProjectDanH . Not sure if I'm gonna install them myself as the only experience I have with this is RUclips videos and working on the street. Do I have to lift and remove the wheels?? What brand tie rods do you recommend?

What a coincidence, I’m swapping the ball joints on my WJ today.
Awesome Jay! How'd it go?
@@ProjectDanH I got one side finished because I found a hole in one of the ball joint rubber grease boots. I'll finish the other side once I get a new upper ball joint from the manufacturer. Most importantly, the ride is much smoother now.
My 2000 WJ isn't happy unless its CEL is on. And if I get that to go out, now my ABS light is on. Oh well.
Glad to see you on the road amd congrats on the free goods. Speaking of free goods, I'll be shipping out the Fumoto Valves for the WJ and ZJ tomorrow for you man.
I freakin love you man! The WJ is on the road!!! That means amsoil oil change really soon 🙌🙌🙌😁
I didn't watch the whole video I would suspect a control arm bushing
Everything was bad! lol
Hey man, loving your wj! What code reader are you using to read those codes? Cheers buddy
hey! I use this scanner amzn.to/3eVANEM with the Torque app. I think it might only be on Android tho
Haha as I typed that out the video was still playing and you ended up talking about it anyways 😂
Hahaha I'm glad I covered it!
Massachusetts clipped many drivers running Vermont Plates and made them reregister in Massachusetts.
It's legal, they can't make me so anything. lol
@@ProjectDanH It's not legal to register a ride in one State and live in Another. Even your Insurance may have something to say. I know there use to be many cars registered in Vermont riding around in Massachusetts not anymore don't see any.
Google can I register a car in Vermont if I'm living in New York
@@nobsatthistime If I still have it when then 2 years are up I will re register it In NY. Hopefully by then the title will have arrived 🤣🤣
@@nobsatthistime what if you had a vacation home or a 2nd home?
I had to fix this on mine. I replaced all my control arms and the car stopped doing all that. I replaced front, rear, and that upper a-arm in the rear along with steering stuff and she drives like new
well, then I must do the same! thanks Jason!
@@ProjectDanH I’m sorry but I didn’t understand what that was supposed to say😂

My wj does the same, found rear thrust angle is way off center
how did you fix it?
@@ProjectDanH adjustable control arms
Your State is going to make you reregister it in the State that you got your License from the first time you get stopped by the Po Po.. Also I went threw the same problem in Massachusetts but i was lucky to have the last Registration from the last owner so i was given the first Title ever issued to the Car. It was my 1969 Pontiac Firebird. 25 Yr.'s after it was Built. At least you have a clean title now but I'm sorry to say your not done Spending for Registrations and Titles. Good Luck.
I guarantee my state will never know. 😎
@@ProjectDanH Your kidding right? As soon as they run the Vermont Plate and see it's registered to a New York address with your name on the paperwork it's not going to pass the smell test. Before you needed Insurance in Vermont everyone use to pull that. It's only a matter of time. Again good luck.
@@ProjectDanH just looked into this and it said anyone can register a car in Vermont. Surprised me. But I know what the State of Massachusetts did to a few of my friends.
@@nobsatthistime trust me bud! this is not my doing... It was done legally through a titling company. After my two year reg is up and I have the title in hand I will renew in New York. Untill then I will be enjoying my green plates. 😉
Hi Dan You chose to call your car the Green Hornet have a look on U tube for the revenge of the Pink Panther and the SILVER hornet ,Peter Sellers at his best .
lol.. will do Doug!
Hey Dan inbox me take that electric fan out from underneath the hood it's junk I converted my WJ over to the viscous Ford 4.0 fan. With my car hot cold spinning wheels the best thing I ever did was remove my electric fan
hey buddy, it's not an E fan it's a hydro fan and a lot more complicated. I'd love to ditch it but it's working great now! 😁
I think the rear steer is caused by the upper a arm
Well my control arms were definitely an issue but the upper A arm probably plays a significant role too!
Tenho uma cherokee v8 4.7
Quando passo de 60 km por hora a direção fica trepidando
Eu acho que são pneus ruins... isso, ou você precisa balancear suas rodas
Yep its a jeep, if it isn't having electrical/electronics problems, it'll have mechanical problems and all sorts of them.
$600 for title work, yeah umm that's why you don't buy a vehicle that doesn't have a title...the owner could easily have sent for a lost title, and would have been under $100 easy to have got the title that way.
Why are you watching this channel?
Duhhhh Will! Of course we exhausted all resources to get his New York title sent to him... There was too much red tape with this vehicle and the owners DMV history. I decided to go around the previous owner problems and NY and have a title service get the job done. $900 for an Overland WJ is still a win
Dan well you get to join me in having a wj on the drive that sits. I have severe death wobble while breaking. Have you experienced this? I have replaced the upper rear control arm and ball joint 500 plus bills. I paid to have it done. I have a 2" lift, what should I add to the suspension? I have a lifter type noise that during idle comes and goes. Ugh why do I love this thing and it doesn't love me back. Deb
lol... Jeep my life! doug from D&E did a good lifter vid... martin built too. try a new track bar... 80 bucks on amazon!
Like dan just said, I have the exact same set up on mine, 2inch lift, 01 wj, 4.7 v8 unlimited. The death wobble is caused by the small factory sway bars both front and rear. How I fixed mine, was I upgraded both the front and rear swaybars to a thick beefed up off road ones and new really hard poly bushings, if you miss this part and by to soft, your still going to have issues. At the time I replaced all my bushings and control arms, lift, sway bars and everything elsa back in 2010, I've used it as a daily driver every day since and its never given me issues. At the time nobody sold new endlinks that would compensate for the 2 inch lift. So I bought some stock steel tubing and made my own endlinks to fit the new off road sway bars all around with the 2 inch lift. Your going to need to ad a 2 inch lift to the wishbone ball joint, the angle isn't that extreme with the 2 inch lift but its just enough to blow out that wishbone ball joint. I personally went through 2 before I realized the issue, and made one out of the old ball joints, it came out perfect!
Anyone on here figure out the a/c light issue. A/C unit still works fine. But all the lights are dead, no power, it's annoying as all hell, but like I said the A/C still works. I've checked for fuses, and harness but nothing. I own a 01 wj unlimited with the dual control A/C unit. Thanks
See if you can get a new A/C climate control unit. They're only a out 60 bucks on eBay.. or pick one from the yard.. it may be the fix 👍
The issue is your rear control arms and maybe your wishbone had the same issue
The control arms helped immensely. I'll still look onto the A arm too! Thank you for the comment 💪
