I saw the riots that went on last year, and I felt exactly what Tom is saying in this song. The UK is also a melting pot of culture. If you ask me, I'd say the UK history is worse than Americas. How we created the British Empire, then moved to America to steal the land there. Americans used to be British, until independance. History is there so humans don't make the same mistakes. I believe Tom is saying hate the government, not the country. We have a saying over here. "Don't shit on your doorstep". Basically don't disrespect your home. Anyway soldiers die for our freedoms, so we should pay homage to them. BLM was paying homage to criminals resisting arrest. The fact that people can decide whether the flag is important to them or not shows the freedoms of America. Some countries would not allow that disrespect. The kneeling wasn't so much the flag, it was during the anthem. The anthem is in remembrance of the men and women who died.
Here you can hate your country and criticize every aspect of if and you get nothing. In some countries you'd be jailed, maybe even killed for it.
A country doesn't have to be perfect. It's loving your country enough to fight for it. There's many reasons I don't agree with the BLM movement. But I believe if they were protesting in a way that does not degrading the country but that actually has to do with what they're protesting, I never would have become angry over it. • @kl-jm4pn
    @kl-jm4pn 3 года назад +11

I think a lot of people miss the point with Colin. He is fine to kneel but actions have consequences. You can’t do an action and then get mad about the consequences. He also knelt at work during his job. Period. Freedom of speech deals with what the government can and can’t do, not what a private organization can say about your political speech at work. Lastly, the flag represents the people and the country founded by the people. The people that bled and died for the people. Just because you can do something (kneel) doesn’t mean you should.

    • @mf1936
      @mf1936 2 года назад

In all honesty I don't think it's that people are missing what Colin is trying to do and say it's that he went about protesting his issues in the wrong way. First off he did it on his company's dime which is not okay if they're not aware that something like that's going to happen knowing it might have some thing to do with some kind of a protest. It's almost just like the black lives matter organization calling its movement in those words because it makes it sound as though other races and other people don't matter because they're not being included in the title. It should have been called black lives matter too and that would have stomped out all of this confusion

It's sorta like when a comedian tells a joke and some people don't get the punchline because they didn't understand the context. This seems to be the result of our "education" system that doesn't teach civics or history anymore like it once did. The end result is people not knowing about their own history, the good, the bad, and the ugly. JMHO.

Okay, I hope I can translate everything running through my head correctly for you guys. Because I love to watch y’all’s reactions to music. I can tell you’re passionate people from watching your videos. So I’m hoping what I’m trying to say comes across the way I want.
The flag is all of us. America as a whole. WE are the flag. When he’s talking about soldiers dying for the flag, he’s saying that soldiers have died for all of us. To keep our country and our freedoms alive and safe from enemies foreign and domestic.
All of our enemies would love to watch us (i.e. our citizens AND our flag) and our freedom burn. Our soldiers go to wars to protect us and our freedoms from those people. Without our soldiers, our rights, and our freedoms; the last FREE country in the world, would disappear.
He’s not saying that we think the flag is the soldiers. Not at all. Our Military is our country’s bodyguards. Without the people who fight and die for our country, we wouldn’t be living life freely.
At this time, our country doesn’t draft our Military members; which means that everyone in the Military, at this point in time, is there willingly because they love our country and want to defend it from whatever is needed with whatever means necessary.
I’ve had many family members in the Military, so I back our Military and our Police and if I ever see someone disrespect our flag right in front of me, you’ll see my brand of crazy surface. Just because you have the right to do something, it doesn’t mean you should do it. Show some respect for the soldiers that have died for that right you want to exercise, you know?

Not just kneeling for the the flag. Kneeling for the anthem. As a reminder, the anthem is directly talking about the fight for freedom by the soldiers. That’s why so many people don’t like the kneeling. It IS a direct slap in the face of those brave people who sacrificed for this country. Judge for yourself. Here are the lyrics:
    Say, can you see
    By the dawn's eaely light
    What so proudly we hailed
    At the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars
    Through the perilous fight
    O'er the ramparts we watched,
    Were so gallantly, yeah streaming?
    And the rocket's red glare
    The bombs bursting in air
    Gave prooof through the night
That our flag was still there
Oh say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and at the home of the brave

As a current active duty I will accept standing or kneeling because that’s the whole point of why we became Americans in the first place, a true soldier will not tear you down for you expressing your freedom. But the flag is more of a representation of the soldiers to most because we used that as our symbol for the world to recognize us. If you want you can react to this video and see why so many see the flag as a representation of our soldiers strength more than just the country itself. It took all of the soldiers sacrifices to make this flag recognizable to the world. Their spilt blood made it as powerful as it is now. Good video guys, made me laugh! ruclips.net/video/YaxGNQE5ZLA/видео.html

Heritage- about this song, we have an ugly past here in this country, but you can’t get rid of it. Accept it happen and learn from it. Don’t try to bury it from this existent.
As far as hating the government and still loving the country. The fact that if the government is to work for the people. They represent us. We should vote those out that need to be voted out. We need to stand for their bs. We have the right to stand up for a tyrannical government.
As far as the flag for me and the national anthem. As a veteran, I don’t care to kneel or stand. You have that right. I won’t be a hypocrite on the topic, but I will always stand. I remind myself just as the lyrics “And the rocket's red glare
The bombs bursting in the air
    Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there” that no matter the outcome or how bad it gets, we as Americans still stand proud and will always bounce back/ still around tall; I wish people would break down the lyrics of the anthem-like they do these videos.

When we were a child, we thought like a child, and we acted like a child. As we grew up ...we made mistakes. But, we learned from our mistakes, faced them, made changes, and grew up. America is still young. It's made mistakes, but it's been changing, addressing mistakes, facing them, and learning. We didn't grow up over night. Neither does America. I don't stop loving, and start hating and putting down my children as they grow up and make mistakes. We shouldn't treat America like a hardened stone-cold criminal. Just my opinion.
I understand "why" people kneel, I just disagree about 'when' they kneel. It is disrespecting the flag and the country it represents, because of being angry at the system. The flag doesn't represent the system, it represents the people ...all the people, We the People. I am angry at "it - the system-government" too. My husband's coffin was draped with that flag, he died defending that flag (10-3-93 Mogadishu). By all means kneel ....AFTER the anthem. I will kneel with you because my husband died so you have the freedom to kneel. My son, currently serving in the Navy is putting his life on the line for that freedom. Stop the game for a minute, not the respect. The game can't commence if the players and fans kneel. But when I see people kneeling, or turning their backs on the flag, that hurts my heart. Just like my heart hurts when I see my fellow Americans being oppressed or disenfranchised. That flag ...and what it stands for, and us coming together is the ONLY power we have, besides God, that can really address those issues.
"I won't kneel for the anthem, because the flag is what I'm standing for. You can hate the government and still love the country." #HangOverGang #TomMacDonald #America

When he says burn the heritage he’s talking about our foundation. The inherent right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Nowadays the youth is taught to hate this country, its founding principles and its constitution.

NFL players represent their team and city, so what they say and do matters. Also, you shouldn't be protesting while at work, in uniform, and on the clock. That is totally unprofessional. There is a time and place for everything. Go to your job and start protesting when you are on the clock, see how that works out. LoL. Also, don't protest the flag when the team you play for receives money from the military. Just stupid!

I really respect your guys opinion and time you took to explain the video as well as your point of view.
One thing I took away that I wanted to say. The flag isn't JUST about our soldiers it is about our country. It's about the blood that was spilt to make America what it became. The government today SUCKS!! But at the end of the day it's WE THE PEOPLE who have to come together to change it. That's what our founding fathers sought after. Until we all come together and unify, we will continue to be ruled. Even if you don't agree with the war, it's what keeps us free as well as to help other people. That is what Tom is trying to get people to understand.
There are plenty of ways to go about standing against police brutality, but what does kneeling do? Besides piss off patriots. Especially someone with enough money to go about making a change.
Why aren't people striving to have qualifications to become a police officer harder? Why not fight for yearly screenings for Officers to make sure they are still fit to be on duty? SO MUCH RESPECT when I heard y'all say "I don't think they should defund the police just make it harder" THAT is something everyone should/could agree on.
There are so many different things Kaepernick could have done to "Protest" and the people who are pissed about it, know that. And they're also the strong believers of "You can hate the government and still love the country."
America today makes it so people don't have to be drafted into war. So that it is a freedom to choose to go and not be forced.
Such a good video by Tom.
    Much love guys 🤍🤍🇺🇸

The American flag represents the ideas that the founding fathers had… they didn’t practice what they preached at the time and we shouldn’t make any excuses for that… at least half of the founding fathers were opposed to slavery but they couldn’t do anything about it at the time and some of them even had slaves. These were people who can make mistakes. Their ideas helped us to get where we are today and we fought a war against each other where millions died to stop that practice. We all need to work together as equals to make the country better and to keep it the best country in the world.
