The tale of "Melek not bowing to Adam" is a unique narrative exclusive to the Yezidis of Lalish, Iraq. Yezidis from Georgia, Armenia, and Syria, though unfamiliar with this story, express surprise, often asserting that Lalish Yezidis have undergone Islamization, introducing new religious concepts. As evidence, they point to the tradition of abstaining from alcohol, a practice observed by Yezidis in Islamic countries. In contrast, Yezidis in other regions freely consume alcohol, even during sacred occasions like "Rojie Mirya" or "Days of the Dead," when they visit graves, partake in meals, and indulge in alcoholic beverages. Subsequently, they leave food, fruits, and alcohol on tables for those in need, a gesture embraced during these commemorations. During "Rojie Mirya," it is customary to offer specially cooked beef, rice, fruits, and alcohol to three neighboring houses each day. The significance lies in dedicating these offerings to a recently departed relative, honoring their memory. For example, on the first day, the food is given in the name of a grandfather who passed away in the current year. The following day, the offerings may be dedicated to someone else, and on the last day, they are given in memory of every person who has passed away, ensuring a comprehensive remembrance of the departed. The dynamic nature of Yezidi religion, characterized by its oral tradition and classic Orthopraxis approach (emphasizing correct actions and behaviors over strict doctrinal beliefs), leads to diverse religious practices across different global regions. While influenced significantly by Islam, Yezidis in Iraq may manifest distinct religious practices compared to their counterparts in Caucasus, Europe or the United States. Orthopraxis, in this context, refers to a religious approach that places a strong emphasis on adhering to the correct conduct, rituals, and behaviors associated with the faith rather than focusing on a rigid set of doctrinal beliefs. In Yezidi tradition, the emphasis on correct actions is a defining feature, shaping the way individuals practice and express their religious devotion. Despite regional variations, all Yezidis uniformly reject the belief in Satan. Those from Georgia and Armenia assert that evil does not exist independently; rather, everything is a creation of God, with all evil coming from human sins. Furthermore, Yezidi theology lacks forgiveness for sins, with the understanding that individuals must reckon with the consequences after death. The only potential reprieve lies in offsetting one's transgressions by engaging in virtuous deeds throughout life.
I do believe they’re semi devil worshipers the same way I see Christianity as a polytheistic religion. In Islam shirk(partnership of power) is the biggest sin and I see that with how Jesus is portrayed as god and the devil being seen as holy candle that god gave some of his power to. I am glad I seen the perspective of Iblees not bowing down to Adam as a it would be in his eyes considered shirk since he was to only bow to god. I understand the yazidi point of view but I cannot separate how much power and love they show to the literal devil.
