The Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) is an opportunity for the government to produce a 300+ page document to either to crow about the ‘golden eggs’ they have laid or ‘gild the lily’ as to the size of the hole they have dug for the taxpayer. While a non-event for the general public and expert commentary quickly dissipating, the pending Federal election may elevate its importance. Without a pre-election Budget, the MYEFO will be an essential yardstick by which to the gauge the accumulative impact of the myriad of election promises all parties will be spruiking to garner votes.
