  • Civil Affairs - designated G-5 - soldiers begin their work in the newly liberated French city of Metz. The Military Government was in charge of establishing pro-Allied officials in local government offices, securing the existing infrastructure of liberated cities - or occupied, in the case of Germany, and helping locals rebuild after the exit of German authorities. Counterintelligence Corps personnel also assisted Military Government in rooting out enemy agents and sympathizers in their area of responsibility. This footage shows some amazing views of the city of Metz after its liberation.
The footage is dated December 2, 1944, but it appears to have been shot in the latter part of November.
