    Once again, thank you very much for your great video. You were kind enough not to disclose your sources (thank you!), but I'm doing it now: Reinhard Pollice, you and myself had a little and very pleasant chat. We both agreed that you're a very likeable person.
    Here are some things I would like to add, because Reinhard and I weren't able to communicate them clearly in the little time we had:
    The Nyras Demo is realized as a mod to the Gothic Remake base game. We're using it to test the modding capabilities. This means that the underlying gameplay, world and tech is actually the (almost) current state. The mod injects content changes, dialogue and quests. It was great for us to see that this mod from last year is still actually forward compatible with the latest build, so that's good. It also means that your gameplay experience is representative of our current state in most regards.
    The impression that movement generally feels less "direct" than it should is due to many interwoven aspects which are still being tweaked. This is a question of balance between realism and perceived responsiveness that we are still working on. Since we're all playing the game on a daily basis, we have already adapted to the current state. I personally can say that it feels fluent to me, because my brain is already trained to compensate for the apparent delay you've experienced. So your feedback is very valuable, and it was brought up by quite a few others as well.
    Edges that look 90-degree-ish are generally climbable without any specific indication. Freedom of traversal means a lot to us. The wooden cart you mentioned though - and that Reinhard was referring to - is technically not a 90° surface. It's more like an elevated box with stuff in it that's hard to traverse, and depending on the angle of approach, you'd have to climb over a tiny edge to get in. To ensure a smooth traversal experience, some of these "edge" cases (ha!) were blocked with collision boxes in the demo.
    Missing sounds were my fault. I was under the assumption that this year's Nyras demo would have the same scope as last year's, which didn't have bows and some creature animations. When I learned that these things would be added to the demo, it was already too late to add the sounds and I messed up doing it last minute.

      Thank you for clarifying a lot of the points.
      I KNEW that I saw the abandoned mine in the trailer.
      Also, you'll read and hear it a lot but the music is pretty much on point. Literal perfection, imo. Even the sounds are underlayed with some OG ambient & monster sounds which I really liked to hear. I'm also so excited for the alpha concept + cut content influences that are being included. So much stuff there that would enhance the world, factions and especially the storyline with the cut out plot points later on.
      I have a few issues left but since all of it is in the feedback channel, I hope it can be heeded and done before release because then this game is a certain first day buy (which rarely occurs in my case). It's already on #1 on my wishlist. 😄
      Hope I get the chance to visit the next big event / Gamescom for Gothic, unless it releases before that already.

      take your time and iterate, don't rush, have fun and disregard the pressure! I prefer a delayed game that is a labor of love of the creators to something rushed and unfinished

      the part about adapting to the current state of the game is really interesting to me. when you're part of the development, when you play every iteration, you lose the perspective of a new player
      and that first impression, new player experience is very important

    I think the demo is really great, Alkimia has almost convinced me, so far I like almost everything!
    However, as a "hardcore fan" you also have to address a few things that you personally would have seen differently, here are a few examples:
    - The "writing effect" is missing when a quest is added or updated
    - If you want to loot a chest or other things, it takes too long and is out of sync and looks strange.
    - This “always wanting to start” when you just want to walk looks very strange
    (looks like he's sprinting to one spot and getting no further)
    - Sticking the torch on the ground is cool, but the way it's done looks weird and unfinished
    - Too much blood in battle and it falls uncontrollably
    - The inventory looks too digital...like Elex, could be a little more transparent, or like Gothic classic, with leather and silver (menu) that suited this game well
    - The camera, the character is permanently on the left side, that's not a "God of war" I don't understand the meaning behind it if the original isn't like that. Character should be centered
    - Maybe not many people see it that way, but I don't think the magic barrier is particularly good-looking, it looks like an ice dome with lightning, I think it can be made more beautiful, it's the main part of the game
    (which should always show you that you are trapped, always be visible and correspond to that: more epic, better looking, more powerful
    - too sunny, in the Gothic classic, even when the sun was shining it was always hidden by clouds and barriers, it was gloomy in the mine valley even when the sun was shining
    - Conversation dialogues that you can choose, in the remake it looks too modern, I think it would be better like before, with "used leather", matching the "Gothic style", in a box where everyone is among each other, like in the "Gothic Classic"
    - (Finish Move, coup de grace) still needs to be improved, it still looks very unfinished: sound and movement, Gothic classic, it was very epic when you gave someone the coup de grace
    - I also think the mana and life bars are too modern, like in Diablo, can't you keep it like before? A normal life bar on the left and mana on the right
    ("Isoteric life bar" doesn't seem very appropriate)
    - Archery crosshairs need to be changed, it looks like it's from a bad FPS shooter
    - Blue magic ore candles in the swamp camp, in the remake everything is full of normal candles, the blue color made the camp more mystical

      I agree, but I Id go with inventory of gothic 2 instead,maybe even 3, but 1 is alright too. The camera is just too eyecatching problem, hopefully it will be fixed. The game does not seem too sunny to me, but I can see the unnatural contrast between how dark are the parts that are in shade compared to how bright are parts that are under sun, the shade must be less dark because it looks like its nighttime wherever the sun doesn't shine. The problem here is that the modern graphics made everything seem much smaller then it felt like in the original, that is the problem with making a remake, that the original game included a graphic solution to many problems and when the graphics are changed the problems resurfice, since they are no longer hidden.

    Xardas' tower was only invisible in the original Gothic because it was too far away for the engine.

    Honestly, it seems they did their best to create a modernized combat system that is still close to the original.
    I did not even expect them to emulate directional combat this closely and feared they would go for generic dark souls.
    So, i am happy that they created something unique.
    Animation response times is something that could be quicker from what i can tell, but then again - if they manage to give combat a flow even without instantaneous responses, i will be happy.

    If the swamp camp doesn’t have blue magic ore torches that makes the swamp a green/blue color i am protesting

      this will be not a problem....with the mod support they will be people how feel the same and one of them will release a plugin in days to "fix" it. Recoloring or replacing a textures is not a big deal.

    Also fingers crossed for 0 invisible walls! Nothing breaks the immersion as a freaking invisible wall in a openworld game.

    One cool detail I saw in a video of the demo - when sitting on a bench, the sword on the PC waist actually colided with the bench instead of just clipping through it. Such a small detail but I liked it a lot. I think it is a first I see this in a game.

    Overall it was a promising Showcase of the game. No major negative Points. One thing: weapons dont drop when knocked out. This was quite an important mechanic in Gothic 1. (stealing weapons by knocking out NPCs, or the player getting robbed).

      When you knock out Kirgo you can steal his sword from his inventory so that's still a thing (I think overall it's better because you don't have to run around and search for all the weapons after a larger fight).

      @@Aphain well... many games have a bit shitty physics in that way. because weapons run away way way too far when dropped. combination with high grass and its a fuck fest. basically grass is considered smooth surface and things will slide on it just like that. thats because game devs are living in basement and dont know how real world work

    nice technical dive, I'm happy you confirmed the scavenger OG sound, that was something that bothered me a lot... I was afraid this would scale to other monsters as well...
    OG Gothic has a very specific soundscape that was preserved for over 20 years, its hard to imagine the same place without it's original sound

    Didn't you have the impression that the looting action (squatting down, looting enemy from the menu, getting back up) is too slow?
    IMO it takes too long to take items from corpses. Imagine killing a group of 5 or 6 wolves and then having to go through those slow animations for each one of them...
    I hope they improve that.

    I was waiting for your video on it. From what i saw I'm sold on the game, even though i was quite a bit skeptical before seeing it in action. Anyway, i agree with some concerns of yours too, but i don't think we have dealbreaker issue yet.
    The thing that has been bothering me the most though, which i hope to get more opinions on this to see if i'm crazy, is that even though the models, animations and all that look great to me.... all these guys we saw look kinda weak? I mean, other than Diego who looks like an oldschool biker, nobody else gave me a tough guy vibe, let alone had an intimidating presence so far. They all look too much like normal guys, and some even soft. I'm yet to see anyone be somewhat muscular too. For a prison colony i expected a bit more.
    I mean, as someone who delt with criminals and prisoners at work, and who also practiced martial arts for years, you can kinda get a certain vibe when you meet tough guys or simply hardened people. Yet, i got none of this from these characters, which wasn't the case with the original games. Sure, you could expect some of this from rookies and low level guys, but even the higher ranked guys just look and talk too much like the average joe you meet at the supermarket.

      Indeed, Gothic 3 had this and on top of it you could use the torch to light on fire enemies during the fight.

    Danke sehr für diese eindrücke von Gameplay. Ich habe genau diselbe meinung mit allen dingen die du aufgezählt hattest. Eines was mich noch störte sind diese Weisen umrandungen bei gegenständen und die Icons oder das man F drücken soll fürs aufheben, finde ich tatsächlich auch ein No Go, stört die immersion und hoffentlich ist es ausschaltbar.

    i hope they leave free range climbing , even if they throw the argument "there are places you can get where you should not" as ... if you got there , then you should be rewarded for bypassing puzzels or mechanics by using terrain
    and it leaves the door open for speed runners

      you could only throw items in the pre alpha, you couldnt do it in the finished g1 game

      Since G2 uses the same engine I wouldn't be surprised if you can do it but I didn't test it.
      I am not really sure how I did it. Open the inventory, hover over an item and then press R (or E?) and left click.

      @@Angerfist1987 You were able to up to a certain point. It was later patched out, and to enable it again you'd have to fiddle with the files.
      I think the combination was ctrl + right arrow

    For me personally, Gothic (+ Risen 1) has been always about the journey "from zero ho hero" and I hope they will make it that way. The steep difficulty curve and the satisfaction of increasing your combat capabilities bit by bit (increasing the number of possible enemies you can defeat and places you can now explore) will always be perfect.

    Regarding the tower being visible, it's definitely intentional. Milten clearly tells us that Xardas is living in a tower in the middle of the orc land. This happens when we go to deliver the letter to Corristo early game

    nyras did not perish, you KO him as the player and take the focus stone, he will hang out in that location until the end of the game

      he‘ll aggro you for the rest of the game though, iirc. Hence, most people probably killed him for good

      ​@@mihkelpaju3251 the thing is Gothic 1 didn't have the mechanic of directly killing hostile NPCs like Gothic 2 had. All human NPCs get knocked down and then you have the option to kill them (which was quite annoying for storyline hostile enemies like crazed templars and novices). Going by your logic, none of the apocalyptic templars were killed by the hero because we have the option to spare them

    Alright, I have consumed all Gothic Remake footage several times... And I haven't seen the character unaheathing his weapon and NPCs reaction to that... Correct me if I'm wrong!
    Also I started to perceive the armours as too clean...
    BUT... I love it nonetheless!

      There was definitely a situation in the footage of CohhCarnage. When he fought Kirgo and took out his weapon right after the fight was over, Kirgo made a comment about it a la "Put that thing away!"

      Considering that both Reinhard Police and Kai Rosenkranz are interacting with the German Part of the community in forums, during Discord calls and in streams of content creators, they atleast show interst and an engament with members of the community. What conclusions, if any are drawn from this interactions will be shown over time.

      Kein Ding Bruder. Ich war auch noch nie auf der GC weil mich der ganze Kram meist nicht interessiert aber dieses mal gab es ja das Remake zu bestaunen.

    I like inertia system for movement. Its important to make sure player is not strafingg like a feather. However it may not offer good combat experience and will require tweaking to find a sweat spot. This innertia could as be linke dwith weapon mastery levels or equipment weight

    the first Gothic brings so good memorys back. For what i see. the remake will be a very good game. And now, at the end of the day, it seams that the english synchronisation will be as good as the german. I think that was the reason why Ghotic was not successfull in America.

      It probably had some impact but I think the main reason is that they didn't have that much of exposure to the game due to it not being properly advertised overseas.

    is there a map of the valley? i mean the new map? is coast still on the east?
    i wish that all coast would be on the west so that island could be made bigger. more wild... with a place for orcs to hide and enjoy what orcs enjoy

      No map yet but I doubt that they change the base layout of the Valley. I mean we saw the gameplay trailer and there were multiple shots of the Valley and I think it is safe to say that the main key locations will still be were they were more than two decades ago.

    Sweetest Innos, contextual jumping is the cheapest thing to do, such a freedom killer. Developers should prepare jumping system as it was in originals. And the intertia of movement. If I recall correctly, in Witcher 3 the movement also has some inertia to it and people complained about it to this degree that in one of the patches alternative movement responsivenes was added, removing the inertia.

      @@vertigo7082 You can easily check this out if you have Witcher 3 installed. Alternative movement responsivenes is added as an option in settings "Gameplay" tab so one may easily experiment and see what the difference is. Or simply watch a youtube video ;)

    The freedom of being able to go and climb pretty much anywhere is part of why I would have preferred a more stylized, blocky design over realism (and I prefer it aesthetically). It's much simpler to fill the world (even where most players aren't expected to reach) using simple shapes than it is to make everything look realistic. It's also clearer for communicating mechanics without having it stand out like a sore thumb immediately. Can you climb here? Can you interact with this container? Is there an item? ...
    That clarity, imho, is a big reason for the strong immersion created by the original. You can see all information you need in the environment without trial and error or external (UI) help, which makes it feel like you're interacting with the world directly instead of an intermediary UI/ game layer.
    That being said, I think the graphics and world design we've seen so far are well done.

    Apparently there will be Polish and German dub in this game and I dearly hope Polish VAs of Bezi (nickname of Nameless Hero in Poland as he is called Bezimienny in our language), Diego and Xardas will make a return. For us there is just no Gothic without them. They are integral to those characters for us. And it is very nice to hear that mythology will be given more nuance. That will definitely fit better with this world that is meant to be more nuanced and realistic.

    The climbing is a more complicated thing I guess. The Remake is way more vertical, the rocks and cliffs are more realistic, steeper and higher. I think that's also a thing / limitation of Unreal 5 Engine. I don't think that we can climb everywhere like in the past. But I could be wrong and they put those vertical climbing rocks in those places where we know them. Who knows? But what we know, that they add a new climbing skills which lets us climb specific walls and let us reach new areas

    10:08 The camera in TW3 was centered but yeah I get your pont. It would be better to have the character a little slided off to the left and not that much (just like that 15:32 - I mean here it's slightly on the right, but imagine it slightly put on the left). But above all the 360° camera rotation forces you to use the lock-on system kinda like Dark Souls. In my humble opinion it would be better to have the camera locked behind the character's head and have him turn around as you turn around, so that you don't have to press WASD to direct your attacks or use the lock-on to focus your attacks on a target, to make sure that you can ALWAYS turn around to check your surroundings, and to make sure you can easly change target without having to press any buttons.

    This remake needs to be heavily critiqued so when they'll do it's sequel, they'll make things fixed even better. Gothic 2 has elemental dragons. The potential for epicness is there. And it's happening at the same location as in Gothic 1 so one world is already created. Adding Khorinis and Jarkenrar would be a challenge.

      What is woke about that? It would be more in line with Mike Hoge's original vision of Gothic. Beliar stands for a lot of bad stuff but nuances are the key here.

      IMO greyishness of the presented worlds in games and movies is also part of this woke ideology.. Figures that represent absolutes are removed from modern culture.. Why is that? IDK, maybe to make us people more gentle towards bad people (politicans) and events that occur right now?
      Any way.. Sometimes I like this greyishness but now I think it's everywhere (for example look at orcs in amazon's rings of power) and in gothic this greyishness may not be a good idea.
      After all we were chossen one by the god who hasn't got any defects.. Innos was perfect, good and resambles christian God. Being chossen by him was a part of this epickness.. Narrative nicely revealed this later in the game.
      Making good god bad and bad good will make gothic less epic and 'gray'. Similar to other games. That's my opinion.

      I understand that games or movies etc may be created differently and sometimes it happens spontanously that they are created 'grayish'.. But I also belive that some ideas are pushed to us artificially.
      I'm wondering how exactly they will implement gods in gothic game.. If they now present Innos as some kind of thug, Beliar as some kind of good boi, then I think it would be kinda weak.. I prefer them clearly defined.

    Just got a thought. There are women in the colony, especially for Ore Barons and Yberion.
    So considering how long those women are inside the barrier, would it make sense that some of them already got pregnants and we would have some offsprings of Gomez and Yberion already?

    Great job! And special thanks for the inclusive info. It's a bit sad that there won't be an underground orc city, but I hope the Orc Enclave will at least partially make up for that. The addition and expansion of the abandoned mine is also great news, though I wish they had utilized an early concept by making it more than just part of the starting tutorial area. Perhaps what I'm most excited about is the direction of the gods, I hated War of the Gods so much, and I'm still interested in how they'll be portrayed there.

      That is what I would have done if I had my own footage. Since I used third party material I couldn't show off these things too well. Them being streamers and talking about stuff while playing would be a little distracting.

    Climbing in modern games is much more complex than it used to be in old games because the geometry is much more complex now. I can garuantee you that free climbing won't be a thing at this point in developement since it would require a significant restructuring of the leveldesign.

    So is there character creation now? This video has shown me 3 different versions of the Nameless Hero. The one we see in the Teaser Trailer, the one from the original and now this dark-haired beardless one. Or are we just going to be the dark-haired beardless one now?

      The playable teaser is a thing of the past and the design is no longer a thing. The hero in the Gameplay trailer from the THQ showcase is more or less the final version. The dude in the demo from Gamescom is NOT the nameless hero but Nyras, one of the novices of the sect camp.

    I do not agree with british and indian accents being present in the game. None of the gothic or risen series had these accents, Manchester accent just takes away the immersion of this game. The only accent I remember was the Arabic one and was very rare.

      Gothic 1 had mostly american accents by far. G2 had Abuyin having an arabic accent and G3...whatever. I do like the change because it shows that people are from different places without spelling it out.

    what you call in combvat "delayed attack" is called commitment, and recovery frames. These are elements required for having proper punishment for spamming or executing attacks brainlessly.. At 23:28 is also a thing called distancing mechanic thats one of core elements in combat system.

      a lot of player reported a woolly fight controll indipendend from the skill value. I think this is realy i thing in the demo.

      That was no issue in the G1 and G2. You could spam your attacks if you were able to keep the rythm and stagger most enemies.

      ​@@vertigo7082what I'm a bit worried about is that NPCs don't parry our attacks. I'm still on the fence about enemy AI. Kirgo was tough but he never made any effort to block any of our blows. Although he did step back to dodge certain attacks, he left way too many openings which he could have guarded against

    Hey @Vertigo. Thanks for info. You know, you motivate me to finish one very old project. A 14-15 years old project! Once, in one of your older videos we were discussing armours. How we imagined them. You see, me and my brother we as kids, fantacized about how we would imagine armours of certain fractions. Yes, sure we demonstrated our "insane" creative skills in Widows painting program, but hey! Its enough for Imagination :-D ! Im about to dig it up from old backup DVD. I remember having like 4 factions left to finish - Nomads, Hasshisshin, Orc and Evil serving people snd so on. You know... Non European, non generic things were harder for us to make. But I am about to dig it up! And finish it. Day by day, hour by hour... And then I will send it to my brother as a funny nod to our childhood game. Hell, I might send this "marvelous" artistic achievement in Windows painting to you even :-D ! Just dont laugh your butt off :-D . Our goal, if I remember, was to make gear more believable, based in reality, even though still keep a fantasy aspect in it. I remember quite often, even as kids, we were uphored by nonsensical designs. You know... We are Czechs, we grew up with gus and swords and medieval castless all arround and guys with armours doing sword play, so even as kids, we had deason idea how stuff works. Im glad Gothic is still alive!

    These are exciting news about Gothic Remake. I tried the teaser but i didnt enjoy it at all, it actualy crashed after a few minutes.
    If the game will be how it is showen in this video than i realy am going to enjoy.
    The only problem i have is about how the characters speak. Looking at the dialog, it feels unnatural to me. Maybe there are people that speak like that. :)

      It really depends which language you experienced in your playthroughs. Even though I prefer german in Gothic, because it is basically spoken like in the region that I hail from, I think they did a good job capturing the vibe and the nature of the prison: it's a melting pot of different cultures and habits.

      Well they updated it to be on par with the release version so I don't see that much of a problem. To be honest I wouldn't want to run around in the Old Camp or such yet. That should be a big revelation once I lay my hands on the finished game.

      Considering they scrapped the entire game after the playable teaser, going back to the drawing board and building it up again, the timeline suits the shown product. They started from scratch, with barley any graphic assets suriving. I was able to talk to Reinhard Police at the Gamescm aftershow event, who outlined the development of the teaser as follows:
      According to him, they choose this area to test a few things: Firstly their ability are able to creat a "tutorial area" that draws the player in, allows him to grasp the game in a shortly manner and discover what the Gothic remake is about. Secondly the wanted to test how suitable the engine is to be modded: Seeing how characters that a moved from other Areas of the world, behave in their new enviorment. If there are any buggs or things that they arent able to script properly. Thirdly they needed to limit the time invesment of the development team on content creation, for a Demo - while showing of as many features of the game as possible. The area was choosen, because they ofcourse dont want to showcase any bugs. Limited NPCs and monsters ment less mess to be fixed. And last but not least - their aim was to be as far in the development as possible in terms of world building, scripting of AI and quest. In order to be able to take in input of the community and still have time to implement improvments and do proper community work.
      Time will tell, if its true - but that might be the reason why you saw the "repurposed teaser" once more. I truley hope that what he said was honest - because otherwise the project is sadly doomed.

      The fanbase is mature and knows what it want very well. I don't think many people would have a problem with waiting a few more years for the release as long as it is done correctly. Please remember that they scrapped the entirety of the playable teaser besides some assets.

    I really dislike that Kirgo teaches you Level 1 One handed skill for no rreason. You are being rewarded foolishly, and this does not give sense of accomplishment.

      That is just for testers to see the differences in melee combat. Kirgo won't be there in the actual release version. This is a demo.

      But you know that this a demo, do you? The purpose of the demo is to show you the aspects of the game. In this case, that you can actually see the skill progression on the screen. In the final game, you will of course have to train several levels to get up to this point.
