Man I hunt 99% public in Mississippi & I hunt a place that has turkeys but a LOT of pressure. Man I seem to get on them, but rarely pack one out., I believe elite calling plays a role. I’ve been a bow hunter my whole life, starting hunting squirrels at age 6. I think I’m a pretty decent woodsman. It seems the gobblers always hang up & then just go cold. Or I make a move & end up boogering them. Super frustrating. Yall make it look so easy. Do you ever get on them & they go cold & you walk out empty handed or you make a move & end up boogering them??
Man those hunts like that are the best. Those birds that come in silent like that and then all you hear is drumming get me all shook up. Because if you can hear him drumming more than likely he’s close and could pick you out before you figure out where he’s at. Awesome hunt as always and keep them coming sir!!
Man if I learn anything it’s how you strategically place yourself and know exactly what do to!!! It’s an amazing puzzle you put together in about thirty minutes. In order to fool another one!!! Great video will definitely use this tactic in my near future!!! His bless you Mr. Owen’s!!!!
Dang Dave ! That’s a hardwoods hunt in classic fashion. Those kind are hard to top. Congrats and I hope there’s still plenty more to come. Those were some beautiful woods. Well played !
Great hunt once again. Really enjoyed the strategy you used in the video to bag that guy. Twelve days and I'll get up and start my 2024 season. I'm already trembling with excitement.
Haven't had the privilege to hunt the other sub species of turkey, but I just think it's hard to beat an Eastern in general, imo! Great video and explanation Dave!
Great share Dave. In Wisconsin the western part of the state is called the " driftless area " . Glacier never went through here. That's why it's hilly and more mini- mountainess. Anyways😂 ,,,,, our valleys are called " coulees " Just some fun geological facts for your viewers. Thanks for the great content. A few weeks to our seasons start.
Practiced calling on some state park birds this morning. Called in 1 gobbler, then a pair of gobblers and 4 jakes and 6 hens and one of the hens had a 9ish inch beard. No hunting were i was at but good practice
Brother. As a fellow and former cigar smoker. I implore you to stop. I smoked cigars for 12 years after I quit cigarettes. It started out as once in a while to 3 cigars a day. Now at only 55. I have COPD, I’m missing the left lower lobe of my lung. In July I haft to have open heart surgery. Smoking didn’t cause my bad heart. But it shortened my hearts life expectancy a great deal. If I don’t have surgery. I’m dead within 5 years or less. I’ve hunted since I was 10. Today I can’t go as far, carry as much. And I stop and rest frequently. I can’t drag a deer. At all anymore. Thank God for sons. I’m not preaching. I stand as an example for every smoking hunter. I love hunting more than smoking. I now regret every cigarette and every cigar. I know it’s not easy quitting. But I also know dying is also easy. From one hunter to another. Don’t make my mistakes. Good luck. I get to turkey hunt before my heart surgery:).
@@timyowell3105probably went one time on unpressured land. Called in the whole flock on accident, picked one out and now it's just too easy, why go back. After spending weeks on public land, if someone can make that statement, then they are the best
That nap by a tree in the woods with a Tom next to you is always some of the best sleep.
Ur gay
Not if your in predator country😂

Go after them with archery gear and leafy suit. 🍺🍺
Is this from this season? Or are we still in the ‘23 season? Either way, awesome video as always!
Opening line says 2023😊
@@chrismartin5166, thanks, I missed it🧐💀
@@choochooman336 no worries! I miss stuff all the time
what kind of leg gaiters are you wearing?
Them western birds look like fun, but damnit man it’s hard to beat an eastern gobble in the timber. All the hate and bass comes out.
What is that call you use at first of video to locate? Thanks!
Is that odd barring on the middle fan feathers a sign of age in your experience?
is this a '23 hunt?
Yes
50 50 if I brush my teeth or not before a turkey hunt, lol.

Where’s the green sticker Dave?
Just a few more days until IL season🎉🎉🎉

Taking turkey with a shotgun? Why? Zero challenge. Been there. Too easy so simple.

Someone got lucky on the first hunt in their uncles cow pasture.
