Leigh Matthews ... no vision again but probably the greatest ever single performance in a finals game IMO was in the qualifying final on 4 September 1976 versus North Melbourne. Matthews kicked 7 goals 6 behinds, from 33 touches and 7 marks. After a tight H1 the Hawks kicked 8 goals in Q3 to move right away and only some poor kicking at goal kept the Roos in the game. Final score were Hawyhorn 14.19.103 to North Melbourne 12.11.83.
How did it not get mentioned? One player single handedly kicks the last four goals in a row in the last few minutes to just win and get into the grand final which they won. Nick Davis you are one of the best.

Matthews played in the greatest team of all time. Lockett was just as dominant and played in arguably the worst team during the bulk of his career. Likewise Ablet Snr. Geelong were a joke of a football club in the 80's. Ablett gets there and immediately they begin climbing the ladder and go on to play in four grand finals mainly because of what Ablett did every year he was there. His impact was just as good as Matthews. Not as consistent but individually, he won more games on his own than what Matthews ever did. 2 poor grand finals and 2 good ones is good enough to be regarded as GOAT.
