American here. This was one of the greatest championship games ever played in any sport anywhere in the world. 100 years from now people will still be talking about this absolutely epic game. Following the AFL from the states isn't easy because the games are usually in the middle of the night here but I check in every so often to see what's going on. I will be following the finals or as we call them "the playoffs." I just visited Melbourne this past May (2023) and I saw my first AFL game at Marvel Stadium. I also took a tour of the MCG, very fascinating place with so much great history.

2005 and 2006 grand final. Both Sydney v West Coast. Both teams won one each. Combined margin of 5 points across both games.

My favourite moment was after Sheed’s match winner- they showed the ‘time in front’ stat and WCE, at that moment only lead for under 6mins for the whole match- hilarious!
I`ve been in Australia since 2004 and have been watching footy from that year on, now I have not seen any footy before that so I can't vouch for before my time BUT I can sincerely say that since 2004 this is THE BEST GF I have ever seen.
2018 was something else amazing season and such good finals series
I'm an eagles supporter and I was sick on this day, but this was one of the best GF's I ever witnessed in my life, this was also a late bday present for me as well because my birthday was the day before the Grand final. This will be well remembered as a fantastic clash

I was there. Thought we were in trouble after Varcoe kick 3, I decided to cheer as loud as I could for my eagles and lost my voice at half time. The adrenaline kick in with 5 minutes to go…

Ah yes, the very best of grand finales, I come back to this every once in a while, not because I hate Collingwood, but because I love to watch a good game of competitive footy. To all the Collingwood fans out there, it sucks to lose this way, no matter how much this game hurts you, never let go. The pies deserved the flag in 2023 and I enjoyed watching it, Brisbane deserved it just as much, but one day Brisbane will dominate the competition just like they did all those years ago. What a sport Australia has, and cheers, from your fellow Melbourne supporter 🔴🔵

@@alexscott4684 Bad guess, and both Essendon and Carlton have the most Premierships of all-time. Collingwood have lost 27 Grand Finals. The next nearest is Essendon with 14, then Carlton with 13. That's quite the gap. No wonder people talk about the Pies losing Grand Finals.

1. Mate there's no need for name calling. Having a different opinion doesn't mean I'm stupid or lesser than you.
2. He absolutely was.
The umpire that didn't pay Maynard the block came out the next day and admitted he made the wrong call.
But the player who blocked him didn’t have his arms out. Were they out it would have been an illegal shepherd and he would have got a Free kick.
Not as good as the drawn grand final in my opinion
I will never forget that block on Maynard then the play on that wasn’t called straight after :(
