thank you for doing this, as a Filipino American a lot of our generation doesn't know about the Bataan Death March. My grandfather was a WWII vet and served as an officer for the allied forces in the Philippines. I tried to follow in his footsteps back in 2001 by joining the military but I failed the hearing test in Boston. Thanks again for sharing this and I hope more people get to see this.

Thanks for sharing and explaining the history. To this day, it's still very painful to know this is what my Grandpa (Lolo) went through. He was one of the filipino soldiers that lost his life. My grandma had become a widow at the age of 19 raising 2 young kids. I had no idea there was a Bataan Memorial Death March in New Mexico. I hope to attend in the future.
Would love to see you do the real march over in the Philippines next year. That would truly commemorate what those troops did.
Awesome, we were there too and traveled from PA. We took the long way and traveled through texas and entered New Mexico rom El Paso. We may have seen each other along the way! I had 6 family members that participated in the 26 mile and the 14 mile from the age of 17 to 65. My Dad is one of the Death March Survivors and we received the Congressional Gold Medal in his honor.

Great video. Thanks for posting! Brings back “Great” memories. I did that race in 2009 in 8:55. Purified by pain. Hamburger feet afterwards. Never again but what an experience! Being able that shake the hands of a few of the survivors was humbling and such an honor.
My brother was out there today. He was marching for our Lolo who marched and survived, my cousin's Tatay who marched and was shot in the back and for a fallen comrade who died in the line of duty. It's wonderful to see this in here in America. Wonderful video. Much love to my wonderful countries, USA and Philippines.

I believe my grandpa helped get these guys out in the bataan death march. I know he was the staff sergeant at the raid of cabanatuan staff sergeant william ray butler 6th rangers.

Hi Nick, great channel and great video showing this March. Will be there in 3 days March 17, 2019. My grandfather survived the Bataan Death March. He was a Physician and Captain in the USAFFE Medical Corps. Remembering all those who were there. Thank you!

My wife and I were there as well great job on your part, I was with a team so we ended up with 8 Hrs. 42 mins! It is something I will always remember, and while doing it seeing our wounded warriors with prosthetics attempting it as well was very humbling. Everytime my wife said something about hurting I would point them out and she would instantly shut he mouth LOL. We were in the heavy as well my son wanted me to tell you hi but with so many people didn't get he opportunity, he was in the 4th ID out of Ft. Carson now going to Tx. State. So great job, HI, maybe see you there next year!

Awesome video man. I didn’t know about this March. A brother from the 82nd just shared it with me. Ever since being injured in 2009 I’ve been in a downward spiral. I’m working in San Antonio every week, flying from Kc. I went to the va today and saw just how bad of shape is in. I came back from the Stan at 255 and looked sickly small.. I’m 396 now.. this is my goal for next year. A few brothers from my deployment are going to come with me.

I’m preparing to do the Bataan Death march for my first time. Been a long time goal of mine. Looking forward to paying my respects to the soldiers who lost their lives.
I did this topic for my leaving cert history paper in Ireland. It was a very morbid and unsettling thing to write about but what happened needs regular memorial to remember.
The time that I viewed this video, I remembered my great grandfather who was a WWII vet and he did this march and he survived that march and lived a long life. A long 100 year life

Took 56lbs into the Heavy division, and took me 9 hours, and some change to complete. At mile 11 I began getting the doubts, but took a breather (probably for a hour or so), and pushed on. Eventually caught up with hard charging bud around the 21 mile marker, and finished together. Definitely a experience worth living. Met alot of great people along the way, as well as some of the remaining survivors of the Bataan Death March.
I was also 5'4", and 150lbs, and was kicking myself for over packing my ruck. The oranges along the route were amazing!

Hi Nick, thank you for making this video, it was awesome. My great grandfather was a filipino officer that was captured and part of the Bataan death march during WWII. The men in his unit would not let him die and they helped carry him until it was over. Thankfully he survived and was able to live a long and healthy life. I’m grateful that you helped spread awareness of this historical event. Peace and love❤️

My father served as an infantryman in the US army 57th inf PS. He survived the defense, Death March and Camp O'Donnell. Later escaped and joined Augustin Marking's guerillas until the US forces returned in Jan 1945. He saw some rough times.
Will be doing the Bataan Death March race next year. In honor of my grandfather and all American and Filipino POW's. Thanks for your great channel, I'm picking up a lot of great tips.

Great video! I just did the march yesterday and completely agree, it is brutal and humbling but glad I did it, blisters killed me though....debating about doing it again next year but will have to see about better prevention for blisters.

I had a great great uncle, who was in the march. He was 6'-5" and came back from the war 120lbs.

I just visited Km. 0 in Mariveles, Bataan last April 2018. I saw the American flag along with the Filipino Flag the list list of fallen soldiers on a wall. I was watching people passing by, the town was busy people are busy and I just stood there with a lot of thoughts in my head. It was a dark history of the Philippines specially for those soldiers who were part of the death march. I think the Filipinos were able to move on for a long time and I guess I was probably the only person whos thinking of all the sad things happening back then at that very moment.
Time helps people move on but the pain will always remain with the family members. My Grandpa died during the March so his name should be on the wall. The names are also on the WWII memorial in Washington DC. Very painful to see my Lolo's name.

A Filipino here.There was an Ultramarathon here in the Philippines 103 kms Bataan Ultramarathon from Mariveles to Capas. I was a finisher.

I finished the Civ. Heavy in 10 hours and 8 minutes, ruck was sitting at 41 pounds not the best but i didnt prep much. We also stayed at the Comfort Inn. Barely missed you man. Maybe next year ill catch you!

I read Ghost Soldiers a couple of years ago, which centers around the Rangers' rescue of the Bataan survivors who were imprisoned in Cabatuan. It bears mentioning that, prior to the Bataan Death March, the American and Filipino soldiers had been starving in the jungle for several weeks. Many of them were injured and stricken with disease before the march began. Along the way they were beaten and tortured. The ones who complained or looked at a Japanese soldier the wrong way were murdered. What a terrible ordeal.

Next you should try the Vierdaagse March (160km in 4 days) in the Netherlands, and the Dodentocht (100km in 24h) in Belgium. Those are some infamous Marches here in Western Europe

We completed the Bataan Memorial Death March two years ago (my feet were one huge blister). The most memorable part was not completing the full course, the greatest thing was the honor of shaking the hand of two Bataan Death March survivors before the March. PS, how’d you like the “pit”?
