  • Discover the serendipitous coincidence that led this exquisite tiara to Sotheby’s. Attributed to one of the most renowned and celebrated jewellers in history, Fabergé, this piece was a wedding gift to Crown Princess Cecilie of Prussia. Daniela Maschetti, Sotheby’s Chairman for Jewellery, first came across the tiara when she saw a portrait of Princess Cecilie hanging in a castle while on holiday. A few months later, she was sent a photo of the real thing. This stunning tiara is now a highlight of our upcoming sale, Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels (14 May | Geneva).

Would be nice if both the tiara and her portrait could be on public display in an appropriate museum somewhere.

This is GORGEOUS. It would be wonderful to be able to see it in a museum and admire it in reality. Best on a fully gowned mannequin to bring out the splendor.

Such a beautiful peice of fine jewellery. Like many jewellery lost or found it belongs with its owner or family, as each peice holds a magnificent story and place in history, especially amongst royal history. Its also, lovely to peices that havent fallen into private hands and locked away, it would be nice to see this worn today again, by Sophie, Princess of Prussia.

There is no such thing as Prussia, there is no kingdom, there is no princess. They decided to sell it why not let it go to the highest bidder.

Cecilie was the daughter of Friedrich Franz III von Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Anastasia Mikhailovna Romanova to be more precise. . . Somewhere in there the fact she was of the Romanov line gets lost without indicating names properly here. . .

@Thornback You cannot make a blanket statement like this - do please educate yourself before coming out with comments such as you have. Daniela Mascetti who joined Sotherby's is not 'English' - she is of Italian origin and her English here was well-paced, perfectly understandable and classy in tone. All you need is to exercise a bit of patience to grasp her presentation. As for the music, it was not loud enough to drown her.
