  • I unbox, learn to ride and nosedive the Pint X and here's a problem you should know before buying one! #pintX
    This week, my fall to the dark side of PEV continues with me finally getting my hand on the OneWheel pint X! I had always been curious about Onewheel and had talk about it a few times in the past, and I finally bite the bullet and got one to ride and see what the hype are. So is it the nose diving machine everyone had warn me about or a stoke inducing float nirvana the die hard OW rider rave about?

    I've been a fan of your channel for a long time, it's awesome to see you on a onewheel.
    I've done over 12000 km total (yep!) on my two onewheels and it can really be a rewarding way to get around. If you don't mind, here's a few tips;
    1. Shoes. Flat soled skate shoes are much better than the walking shoes you had on. You get more "feel" and control (and fun) and they will operate the foot sensors better too.
    2. Stance. You had feet near the ends of the board, that makes it feel unstable and underpowered. Try your feet right near the middle of each footpad.
    3. Ride mode. Switch the board to the stiffest ride mode, that's how Imlike mine for urban riding. It makes it more like your EUC too and will feel less underpowered.
    4. Chest. Try to resist the urge to turn your chest forward. Just get used to riding sideways! Turn shoulders maybe 30 degrees and head 30 degrees more and then your eyes do the last 30 degrees. Sideways shoukders and hips makes you more flexible and better in control, compared to being twisted like a pretzel.
    5. Magic Tip! Practice always jumping off with both feet together, until you can do it without thinking. It should be your main dismount for the first few months until you can do it in your sleep. You should be able to jump off and put both feet on the ground exactly where you want each foot, and the board where you want it.That programs your mind so in any future bailout you just instantly get both feet off the board and land with good footing. It will save your behind!
    Good luck and remember the onewheel doesnt need to be going fast to be huge fun! 😎

    Very proud of you Sean! Being an EUC King, it may have been hard for you to look outside of your EUC comfort zone, but it looks like you're glad you did and so am I. Most people like me start off with Onewheels and then move on to EUC's and I ride both. This is the first time I've seen a dyed-in-the-wool EUC rider venture out and try the Onewheel and actually admit that he liked it. Over the past month I ordered a Pint X, sold my S18, bought an EXN HT, and ordered a GT with plans to sell my Pint X once the GT arrives which will take its place, similar to what I did with the S18 and the EXN. Great progress by the way, looking forward to more!

    Great video! Thanks for sharing! I think that even with the extended range of the PintX, the XR fares much better as a commuter vehicle due to its size and stability. I've been using my XR as a daily commuter PEV for about 2 years for rides from Greenpoint to Midtown Manhattan and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I could probably shave 15 minutes off my commute with an EUC, but -- like you point out -- the fun factor is so addictive that I'm happy to spend a bit more time on the road. Getting there is MORE than half the fun, sometimes!

    I think you made a good choice. I have had a Pint for 2yrs and 1400mi now, it's had the CB Quart mod for the last 800mi and I love it. I also have an EUC and have ordered he GT (I'm a heavy rider, want the extra power). You did really well but try not to allow yourself to step off the board. When things go wrong bunny hop off, both feet at the same time. I agree with most of your assessments, especially about commuting, except as the owner of both and EUC and OW for 2yrs the OW gets about 75% of my ride time, OW 1400mi, EUC 400mi.

    If you've ever wondered why the one wheel is always limited to under 20 mph it's because it's made in the US. If a problem happens mainly because of high speed, it's hard to sue a company in China from the US. EUC and one wheels aren't only used in the US though.

One note, as a long time snowboarder, I would say the more comfortable and aggressive you are with your carves, the Onewheel feels very much like snowboarding and even surfing. Hopefully, you’ve also discovered by now that carving actually alleviates the wobble and foot fatigue you were experiencing in your initial rides.

    Great vid! As a Pint X owner you only need 2 things that will dramatically change how you feel. 1. Lower the tire pressure some. Maybe 18 to 16 psi. 2. You need flatter shoes (eg, Vans, Converse, just something with a firmer sole). That’s why you’re having issues with the front pad. Thanks for checking it out and covering it and stay safe!
    Edit: The Tire pressure change will all but eliminate the excessive wobble you’re having. I have a lot of miles but I still wobble a lot of I have the psi at it above 20.

More power, torque, beep warnings, better lights, speakers (maybe?), and more range. Future Motion needs real competition to force them to innovate, like we see with EUCs. This would really pick up the pace on this technology. Great video! Love all your diary entries!!

I live in Florida, love cycling, but can’t commute to work (3 miles away) without needing a shower when I get to work. Since my job doesn’t have a shower, I looked for a sweat-less, green alternative to my Silverado. I found e scooters, then eskates. I now own three eboards ( Backfire Zealot, Tynee Mini, Ownboard Zeus) two scooters (Emove Cruiser, Dualtron Thunder) and just recently purchased a pint x. Out of them all, my pint x is the most fun and maneuverable device. I have a GT on its way to see the difference between the Pint X and the GT as I am 6’2” and 205 lbs. maybe the GT will fit me better, but I love the Pint X. I think it is a great commuter. as an EUC commuter, I got a chance to also test and learn on a Pint X. a few things I want to point out compared to my KS 18XL is that EUC's has (10 points of contact), feet, calfs, and if you add pads which I do (clark pads) you also get front and back and jump which keeps me in from flying off, compared to only (2 points of contact) on the onewheel. you can also ride 1 legged on an EUC, due to having a lot more points of contact and control.
    This is also why FutureMotion has limited the speed and not really added much past 30km/h while EUC's are reaching 90km/h (SAFETY)
    also as a commuter, YES my 18XL is 53lbs however I roll it everywhere I go when I'm not on it, stairs are more troublesome lugging 53lbs versus 30lbs however staircases consists of a fraction of a percentage while holding 30lbs everywhere you're not allowed to ride it becomes a bigger burden after 3 mins. my EUC holds my 20lb bag when I'm walking so that's weight off my shoulders compared to the OneWheel, that adds to my daily carry.
    I'm not here to discuss the fun factor, I don't care, I'm simply discussing practicality and after trying both, there is no argument that anyone can say that EUC's are not more functional and safer

    • @pierre1509
      @pierre1509 2 года назад

      Fun Factory set apart, I prefer my bike for a 15-20km commute : it can easily accommodate 40kg of big bags, it is super safe and I can attach it anywhere with a U lock. But my EUC is more fun 😉 Vehicles are often a tradeoff between convenience and fun. Depending on your way of life, your personal best "balance" will be different. But I really don't think that anybody claims that OW are more convenient or efficient than EUCs. That's just not the point of OW at all. But an "efficient" life is so boring 😉

    Once you get better at carving and ride on edge of the tire as your carve, it will feel more like snowboarding. Sure it's a toy, but we're all kids at heart and this is a pretty damn fun toy. To me, it's meant for fun first and commuting is secondary. Anyone who complains that its slow and sucks for commuting is missing the point. Also there are a lot of 3rd party accessories that you can customize to your liking that makes it fun as well. I recommend changing tires to aftermarket one, it would make a huge difference. Have fun with the new toy!

    Thanks for answering the main point of the one wheel... Does it feel like snowboarding. I originally had intended to go from E--scooter to one wheel before learning about EUCs and the snowboarding aspect was always a big draw. I can see from your stance it looks like you're 60/40 in favour of the back rather than front. So perhaps it's closer to surfing? Either way I like (and note) the differentiation of the one wheel as a "toy" Vs full on commuter. That said, if someone offered me a one wheel pint then I'd happily take it for casual mooching around.

    I got the X same time as you. I found a wide trail that had a wood chip surface and a thin loose dirt top in places. To me carving on that felt like snowboarding as I could carve and roll onto the tire edge and push out with the back foot to slightly drift. I’m getting better on pavement and carving on the tire edge is key for that feeling. Unfortunately, I’ve been swamped with snow for awhile now. I hope you give it a chance and are enjoying it as I am!

      hmmm that sounds interesting, maybe I just need to tilt it more and feel for the "edge" of the tire? I'll have to try and see if I can find a spot with loose chips like you also and see what that's like!

      I got the x that same time as well. I only got to ride it for 3 days and there has been snow on the ground ever since. I find that the carving feels exactly like snowboarding and the feeling is quite awesome.

    Like you were trying to say, the OW is a different kind of ride. I started off with a Pint then went V10F. As much as I appreciate the OW and the more maneuverability it offered, I was looking for a more reliable, fast ride with longer range in regards to commuting. The OW is nice on a short burst but I'd never want to regularly commute on it ever again. I hated having to pay attention to specific footwear for the front sensor. It's way too easy to cut out on that board which makes it so I can never feel comfortable.

      I like the contrast between the two, its especially interesting to compared it to the z10 which has some of its floatiness which had a very mix response from EUC riders because of it.

    For getting up over small lips on the street etc without out doing the little motor, it's all about lifting your weight at just the right time, check out kerb nudging. Don't have to leave the board but basically become a casper ghost with a bit of calculation and timing.
    And the snow board feel is there in a way, at a cruiser speed just look to synchronise your toe to heel weight, no rail to feel on a rounded tire, but that's cause your on 'powder' ...until you bail and your jeans become powder on the tarmac, watch out for grease spots and wet leaves!

    Welcome to the dark side. As you get better and trust it more you get looser in the ankles which allows you to handle irregularities easier. It really is a different space than an EUC in form and function IMO. Some people get/love it, some people don't. I am very fortunate that I can enjoy both a OneWheel and EUCs.

  • @AnthonyTsui
    @AnthonyTsui 2 года назад

    I ride Kingsong S18 but recently got the Pint X. I'm not comfortable enough to push its limits but I prefer EUC's thinner tires that can cut through potholes as well as a front facing stance that doesn't make me feel I have a large blind spot.
    Even though EUC is superior in every way like stance, range and power, I still think having the Onewheel as a 2nd wheel (hehe) is a good combo.
    Switch it up once in a while, and ride with buddies who are visiting. Any skateboarder or snowboarder can just jump on the Onewheel and ride within minutes.
    I just wish it wasn't so darn expensive.

    • @benjaminm5232

      I recently got an S18 and I have to agree that it is the better commuter vehicle simple because of how comfortable the ride is and how you don't have to worry about getting caught in the rain. Also using a trolly handle vs carrying something 27-35lbs is waaaay better. The suspension on the S18 eats up every crack in road, and I don't have to worry about overpowering the motor traveling at reasonable speeds. I still love my GT, and it is more fun to ride, but as a daily commuter, the S18 wins hands down.

    Cool video man and regards to your question yes, Onewheel is outdated just bit specially the Pint, nevertheless as OW rider the board encourage you to use your whole body in order to pass the obstacles for that reason some of us we called sport and you can see that when you ride off road in mountain bike trails, was interesting see you in a PintX enjoy the short errands in the neighbor and take advantage of the cool stand in your rides 🤙🏼
    PS: Totally agree with you as a commute PEV the EUC is by far more convenient if you don't take public transportation at all.

    Deep carving the OW on smooth asphalt feels like snowboarding in deep powder. It’s taken me 1,000 miles on the XR to appreciate that, however.

    The reason why I stopped riding my EUC (Z10 BTW): boring.
    Sadly I cannot experience OneWheel in my country. No official resellers and topping extra $ on shipping and import taxes or unofficial resellers is insane.

    Being that your a seasoned euc rider you should of got the xr or gt to get a better experience of the one wheel. As a xr rider with custom shaping options I will say the pint is for kids and a novice.
    I wouldn’t allow a kid to ride an xr or gt. However, if I did, I would put it on the lowest setting.
    With custom shaping in the app you can make the xr loose and carve as if your snowboarding

    I ride my onewheel because its just more fun in my eyes. Jumping off ramps, popping and stalling on curbs, sliding on handrails. All unique to the onewheel which gives it more of a boardsport "vibe" than the EUC ever will have. That is why I am willing to overlook the lower specs of the onewheel. There is more technical finesse when you are into onewheel tricks that just cruising around on any other device does not offer. That is the reason I ride onewheel. If I was purely cruising? Yea the EUC wins in that category

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  2 года назад +3
