@Silver, @JoyAlways, I read character backstories before judging them and I believe Lucius was abused as a child which also makes me think that he must have been pushed into blood purity and getting rid of Muggleborns since he was born by his father, but he probably couldn’t say anything against his father probably because his father would abuse him. If you watch Lucius through out the movies, especially the last two movies, you can see him become this shell of the man he used to be and he looks absolutely distraught when his own son doesn’t acknowledge him and I believe he actually loved his son more than anything in the world. I also believed if he could go back in time and change everything and warn his younger self of what he will become, I think he would take the chance. For instance, that part you mentioned in which Draco didn’t seem to even acknowledge Lucius was only in the movies (DH Part 2, to be exact); the book version has Narcissa and Lucius both frantically running through the war zone, too busy trying to find Draco to even bother trying to fight, followed by a brief cameo of the whole family huddled together in the Great Hall. Nowhere in the books does Draco ever pointedly ignore his father or otherwise show any sort of negative attitude toward him.
Madame Requiem, I haven’t finished the books yet, but I really do feel sorry for Lucius, it was like his whole life was already chosen for him. That was honestly the director David Yates's fault, Ralph Fiennes portrayed Voldemort far better in Goblet of Fire, he actually had a normal sounding voice at times, was very menacing in a calm and quiet way and didn't take forever to cast his spells with stupid pronunciations

In my opinion, Lucius is the most pathetic character in all of the HP universe. Yes even more so than Petigrew. Petigrew at least did what he did for a reason, a selfish and evil reason, but still, a reason that made sense for his own benefit, and he manage to outsmart everyone for years. Lucius on the other hand had no reason to join Voldemort besides hate for muggles and the mixed blood wizards, he had nothing to gain and everything to lose by becoming a death eater. His hate blinded him so much that he wasn't even able to be selfish right, so he made an stupid decision that created more problems than benefits for himself and his family. To top it all off, he wasn't even good at being a death eater. He cost Voldemort one of his horrocruxes, and wasn't able to make Draco a useful follower of Voldemort (which is a good thing in the grand scheme of things but proves that Lucius sucked at being a death eater). Honestly, he's lucky he was born into magic, money, status and looks, because otherwise he would had nothing going on. He never had to work for anything in his life which explains why he was so useless at everything, he was useless for both Dumbledore's side, and useless for Voldemort's side. Petigrew, Barty Crouch Jr., Bellatrix, even freaking Snape and Regulus that both betrayed Voldemort were all more useful for him than Lucius was. Voldemorts h2h combat skill is featless but he would stomp soely due to better stats.

He would simply return the wand to his hand, disarm Lucius, and then Avada Kedavra.

In my opinion, Lucius is the most pathetic character in all of the HP universe. Yes even more so than Petigrew.
Petigrew at least did what he did for a reason, a selfish and evil reason, but still, a reason that made sense for his own benefit, and he manage to outsmart everyone for years. Lucius on the other hand had no reason to join Voldemort besides hate for muggles and the mixed blood wizards, he had nothing to gain and everything to lose by becoming a death eater.
His hate blinded him so much that he wasn't even able to be selfish right, so he made an stupid decision that created more problems than benefits for himself and his family.
To top it all off, he wasn't even good at being a death eater. He cost Voldemort one of his horrocruxes, and wasn't able to make Draco a useful follower of Voldemort (which is a good thing in the grand scheme of things but proves that Lucius sucked at being a death eater). Honestly, he's lucky he was born into magic, money, status and looks, because otherwise he would had nothing going on. He never had to work for anything in his life which explains why he was so useless at everything, he was useless for both Dumbledore's side, and useless for Voldemort's side.
Petigrew, Barty Crouch Jr., Bellatrix, even freaking Snape and Regulus that both betrayed Voldemort were all more useful for him than Lucius was.
Lucius is the definition of "make stupid bets, win stupid prices".
Now in the present time Lucius lives with the tail between his legs not having such a terrible fate thanks to the kindest given by the people he hated so much.

Voldemort can still use wandless magic and wizards are physically tougher than muggles. Voldemort could beat most ufc fighter with combat speed as he scales above wizards who can react to lightnings. And he has durability comparable to harry potter as they both could just no sell busting through structures and brick walls as well as hit from a dragon. Voldemorts h2h combat skill is featless but he would stomp soely due to better stats.
