In the 70's when I was 10 to 12 years old I used to skip school and run around that factory all day. It was the Rock Island Lines at that time and was running full bore repairing engines and box cars. I had to watch out for the men with the white hard hats because they would chase me down and have me removed from the property. It was cool running around there and watching them repair everything and talking to most of the workers. It was something that happened in my lifetime that I will never forget. I now have a nephew who is an engineer driving them great trains, something I wish I would have done myself.
Most folks didn’t realize there were Class 2 Railroads since there are only 15 of them today. There are a Lot of the Class 3 Railroads ALL over the US. Thanks! 👍🙏
Great video once again. Hopefully the wife and I can get back down that way soon to go trackside it's been a couple years. Have a great rest of your day.(Steve)
As a QC local, I can say confidently that the turntable at Nahant sees a fair bit of action. There isn't a wye in close enough proximity to the yard to turn locomotives practically, and since the yard is close to the Mississippi's floodplain as it is, it's doubtful a wye will be built.
Sadly a good chunk of cnw 7009s siblings on the same exact date she made her first revenue run at IRM was the same day that they were headed for their inevitable doom
Not often do we get to see a modern GEVO goin LHF! Besides, I’ve never seen any other Rail company use back cameras like that and maybe we’ll see others adopt it. Too bad UP 3985, 5511 and 6936 won’t be with UP anymore. But 2 of the 3 should be operational once restored at least. Although, I really wanna see that centennial run again. I’ll be sure to check out that previous Silvis Shops Video for you! Almost forgot, great that the Ex CNW SD50 was bought! Those things might have failed during their primes, but I believe they got their redemption later on.
Most definitely! Also, thank you for watching the Silvis video. Yes, I'm glad that old SD50 was bought as well, it's always nice to see pieces of history be preserved.
Long Hood Forward is Challenging because the Long Hood definitely Blocks your View on one (1) side of your Unit. It’s Not preferred but most times, Necessary.
Merch, anyone? okieprint.com/SPR/shop/home

You're welcome! Yeah, Class II's are definitely the odd man out.
Awesome paint schemes on those engines & I like that bald eagle too.
🦅
🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
For sure! Yeah, that bald eagle was a nice surprise.
Hello. I live in Davenport just two blocks from the CPKC tracks. Hope you had a nice time here.

Thank you! That’s awesome that you railfan with your wife, I’d like to do that someday. You do that same!
Nice Silvis catch! Also about 2746 it also left with 2779 to Brownsville, TX i actually got to see them they’re sadly headed for scrap.
Thank you! Dang, that sucks. At least you got to see them, though.
@@Southern_Plains_Railfan Yeah four other units also left Three SD50s ex-UP and one like 2779 an SD40M-2 in UP paint in a rare SDP45 shell
Good video, and just wondering, maybe can you make a video on how do you identify locomotives.
Maybe, if I do, it'll be a while since I already have several videos lined up that I've got to make. Thank you for the suggestion, though!
Ok thank you
Watch out for those truck eating bridges in Davenport!😁
And also in Newton Kansas, there’s a turntable as well
That's cool, do you know when it was built?
No
At least not that I could see
At least I could not see a build plate

Cool, thanks for the info! I’m glad that old thing still sees regular use.
i use to work for IAIS out of silvis and CP out of Nahant and those cameras are event recorders

I wonder why they used a gevo to long hood. Since there was an SD40 in the yard.
Me too, it was cool to see, though.
So…who knows if 3985 will still run all the way west again, on either U.P. or any other railroads?
I’m 99% sure that sp engine went to the us shugar railroad and I got to see it, sadly got repainted last month
1st!
lol
