Excellent!!! First time hearing this. They played at the concert hall(Masonic Temple) after this show each visit until 87 when they played Massey Hall and that didn’t have the same atmosphere imo…. The horseshoe tavern must have been wild that night👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🎶
Wow! Live performances and sound quality that rival 'Live X-Cert.' Maybe not as much between song banter, and the start of 'Tank' is somewhat skewed, but this is great!
The banter on x-cert was mostly overdubbed...if you've ever hear the bootleg album London Ladies Live the W***** interlude never happened, you can hear the guy shout it though!!! Still the greatest band of all time in the original line-up!
Yeah, I first saw them at the Top Rank in Birmingham in '79 & Hugh had to stop the very fist track cause he had to wipe his guitar down...there was gob everywhere & it was dripping of the neck of his Telecaster, I was on the front boards & was 15 years old, a perfect introduction to the best gig ever...
I bought ratus novicus the week it came out.. I was 13.. I went on to be a good drummer supporting the damned and the DKs in Manchester in 1980 at the May flower club an old cinema Oprah house.... GOD . REST IN PEACE. JB
This is one hell of a longshot, but does anybody have a recording of the opening band for this concert? They're called Drastic Measures, and I'm doing a reissue of their musical catalogue. Thanks!
My God, there were good! Now? Embarrassing and pathetic. A Butlins support band, so sad ... time to Walk on by. That song was a dig at these sort of bands, now it's feature in their play list! Such a shame.
We live in crappy times today as far as real music is concerned. This stuff is incredible.
Agreed.
Brilliant, this is the Stranglers, brilliant performance 🇨🇦🇬🇧🏴
Best version of nubiles ive heard to date. Dave's keys are brilliantly warped and Hugh is singing like a filthy swine on the edge. Magnificent! 😎
Weapons grade Stranglers oh how the meek wake! This is outstanding.
Imagine writing Bring on the Nubiles today. You'd be lynched.
In their latter days Hugh did a kind of cleaned up lounge version.
@@princeofcupspoc9073 That's just it, nowadays everything has to be cleaned up. Sanitised so as not to offend. God forbid that someone is offended.
The outcry would be great ! 🤣 The censorboard wouldn't even let it get to that point I imagine.
💖
Oh my young ❤ This was a highlight of the times...The Horsehoe Tavern is still rocking.
Fantastic pic of H.C.
Best sound they had back then before their equipment was stolen. The best I have heard of Tank from back then.
One of my favorite bands, big ups from Toronto.
I'm 64. My inner 18-year-old just took over, made me stand up and start pogo-ing to this. Shit. Now I've hurt myself.
They were a tight outfit ! Superb
Are a tight outfit
This is fucking mind-blowing. I have always dreamt of listening to an early live gig of this quality. Thank you for posting it.
Saw them many times around this time. They WERE amazing! Seriously, nothing came close. This recording captures it all!
This was the Stranglers, the band i fell in love with , not post`85 Stranglers.
Eugene.
Yeah.
SINISTER dark Didn't give a fuck.
Pure punk.
I was a hard core punk 77. UK.
And the bands were
Pistols
Clash
Damned
Stranglers .
Absolutely 🏴love it ❤️🩹
The intro to Hanging Around gave me goosebumps and I have literally heard it 1000's of times
Dave's keys sound superb!
they really do sound great there - i was just thinking that
One of the better recordings I've heard of these guys from back in the day
Excellent!!! First time hearing this. They played at the concert hall(Masonic Temple) after this show each visit until 87 when they played Massey Hall and that didn’t have the same atmosphere imo…. The horseshoe tavern must have been wild that night👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🎶
Incredible band. Next level and totally unique, invented New Wave for fun
The Stranglers - Tight and erudite.
They were great
Nice to hear all those old stranglers gigs.. this where the days ....
Love Straighten Out !🌷
Fantastic live set!
Great pic of Hugh too!
Fucking awesome.
Nice and Sleazy along with Down in the Sewer have to be my two favourite Stranglers songs...blooming epic.
Great energy and sound quality!
Top photo of the main man.
This is fantastic, thank you for uploading it
Thank you so much for this gr8 upload its superb.

Hope no 2024 fans stop by they will want Baz bloody warne as the main pic. They sing enough of Hughs songs
WOW!!!!! Now that was f##kin' great. Thank you. ;^)
Hugh covered in spit on the picture, very common occurrence in those days. Great gig.

Nice new strings on that Precision bass 😃💜😎
the bass on Nice 'n Sleazy intro is threatening, can you imagine JJ's look and walk while he plays that?, I've seen a lot bands but never these guys,
Great recording!
Brilliant probably strangulated perfect performance
I bought ratus novicus the week it came out.. I was 13.. I went on to be a good drummer supporting the damned and the DKs in Manchester in 1980 at the May flower club an old cinema Oprah house.... GOD . REST IN PEACE. JB

What happend to Hugh? he used to be so edgy and cool
He's been recording solo albums for many years.
He must have a dozen released.
Cassets Doo Mech4
Can anyone drive a tank? I see it’s your family’s favourite time 🤣🤣🤣
My God, there were good!
Now?

Compared to the Dickies they were microbes. For this reason, they have never been considered in the USA.
You can keep the Dickies who were never considered in the UK. Quite happy with the deal. :)
I always liked the Dickies and saw them a couple of times. They are fun but rather lightweight compared to The Stranglers.
@@jpcpm1340 absolutely. such a stupid comparison in the first place!
Are you having a giraffe!
