  • Shots of Łódź through the eyes of my camera. Video recorded on May 7-8, 2024. I recommend turning on subtitles, where I inform you about each place.
Łódź, the capital of the Łódź Voivodeship. The city is currently inhabited by 652,015 people and is currently the fourth city in Poland with the largest population.
The city is associated primarily with the textile industry. On site you can see many former factories with interesting development.
    Some history:
Until the end of the 18th century, Łódź was a small agricultural town. When we look at old maps of this area (e.g. Special-Karte von Südpreussen by David Gilly), we will see a small settlement surrounded by forests and centered around the Piotrkowski route. The villages scattered around (e.g. Retkinia, Chojny, Radogoszcz) are today housing estates located within the borders of Łódź. We owe this expansion of the "urban fabric" to the designation of the city as a real center of industry. The first such projects appeared already in the 18th century (several glassworks operated here).
There is probably no estate in Łódź that cannot boast of a palace or a villa that once belonged to one of the manufacturers. Even on the outskirts of today's city you can come across the remains of old fortunes (such as summer villas in Ruda Pabianicka). It is not possible to see all the historic buildings even during a week's stay in the city.
    Trivia:
    1. Łódź has one of the highest feminization rates among the largest Polish cities.
    2. The most recognizable landmark of Łódź is Piotrkowska Street, which remains the main shopping street and the main tourist attraction of the city.
It runs from north to south for approximately 4.2 kilometers. This makes it one of the longest shopping streets in Europe. From the beginning, it was the central axis around which the city developed. There are many buildings and places important in the history of Łódź at Piotrkowska Street.
    3. Łódź has one of the best museums of modern art in Poland - the Art Museum.
    4. Łódź is home to one of the largest Jewish necropolises in Europe.
