- Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the condition of Osgood Schlatter disease.
An apophysis is found where major tendons and ligaments attach to bone. The tibial tubercle is an apophysis and is an insertion for the patellar tendon. The tibial tubercle apophysis is a secondary ossification center. It is not part of the knee joint and it is subjected to traction stress.
Tibial tubercle ossification: below 11 years of age, the tibial tubercle is cartilaginous. Between 11-14 years of age, the apophysis is formed. Between 14-18 years of age the apophysis fuses with the tibial epiphysis. More that 18 years of age, the epiphysis and apophysis fuse with the rest of the tibia.
Osgood Schlatter disease is a traction apophysitis of the tibial tubercle resulting from repetitive microtrauma. It is an overuse syndrome that results in inflammation of the insertion of the patellar tendon on the tibial tubercle. Osgood Schlatter disease is more common in boys between the age of 12-15 years. The condition is less common in girls and it occurs between the ages of 8-12 years in girls. It is bilateral in about 20% of the cases.
Risk factors: sports aggravate the condition like in jumpers, soccer and sprinters.
Presentation: pain, swelling and tenderness localized over the tubercle on the anterior aspect of the knee. Tibial tubercle may appear enlarged. The pain is increased with physical activity and sports. If unilateral, rule out infection, trauma, tumor and check lateral x-ray for fragmentation and irregularity of the tibial tubercle.
Prognosis: it is a self-limiting diseases. It occurs with increased demand on the immature skeleton. It is resolved when the patient stops growing.
Treatment: reduction of activity until it heals. Short period of limited activity may be sufficient. Knee Immobilizer, physiotherapy, hamstring stretching. Do not inject or use steroids. It may cause fatty necrosis and disfigurement of the skin. The condition may become chronic and cause residual pain, swelling and joint tenderness. X-ray. Separate the ossicle over the tubercle (operation of the painful ossicle may be needed)

Song Title: Every Step
If you've ever fallen on your knees and you have this you know the pain.
Alex Dahlen I HATE IT.
Alex Dahlen omfg yes
Alex Dahlen ik I do it loads 😑
Also if you walk into something
Alex Dahlen yup
Just doing some stair runs and tripped and smacked it. Literally the worst pain I have ever experienced in my entire life.
I feel your pain
I'm 14 and I can't do a lot of shit because of the same reason
owen lakics its like hitting you're shins but right under your knees instead
owen lakics I feel you, sometimes i hit it *VERT LIGHTLY* on something, and it hurts so bad! It's even worse when you don't expect it.
I totally know. It's a 10 on the pain scale sometimes. School made it worse with sitting all day and sitting Indian style. P.E. teacher acted like I was lying.
Who else here had osgood schlatter disease like me????
violina Das in both knees
I hate this because I was playing soccer for 8 years I started when I was 5 but I had to quit because every time I ran my knees just hurt to bad
me
I have it in both knees.
I have it
Had this disease for 45 years, lump/bump never gone away, sometimes still get pain, never stopped me from doing things that mattered.
Have you thought about surgery
Damn bro wtf. I had in 5th-6th grade, I remember it was so embarrassing not being able to run as fast and sucking at sports. Couldn’t imagine having it for 45 years.
im 29 its still fucking hurting like hell. I play basketball about 5 hours per week. I was hoping this will fade away with time, but it looks like this is not how it works.
I got it when i was 13 btw.
@@Towig93 read up on it and get surgery
I have Osgood Schlatter... It sucks, I can't play football at my best anymore, I can barely run!
I've had it for a year and everyone says that I'm overreacting, but they don't know what it feels like. I'm also being scouted by a pro football club, but I'm gonna have to count that out now...😥
Wingbar that sucks, you should ice it 3 times a day for 20 minutes and do thigh and hamstring stretches
Wingbar that’s sucks man, I know it’s been a year, but does it still hurt?
Yeah I had to stop playing football too. It sucks.
I KNOW! it doesn't sound true but ive had it for A YEAR AND A HALF but my parents didn't understand until they got a doctors opinion
Amelia Jury I’ve had it for 6 years but i never went to the doctor about it yet
I got this bump when i was 12yo, and its still here. It used to hurt a lot, especially the first 3-4 yrs.
I no longer feel the pain, but when u give that bump a good massage, it really feels good.
Shout out to all the people like me who have this we have to stick together
we will stick together :)
It do be hurting tho
14 years and counting
I don’t want to have it tho
@@Bensteel-qu2tb well same
Had this for years man.. I honestly get a bottle of Hennessey and bang the bump all around and on top of it every night . It hurts but also feels good . I have dreams of cutting my knee open and using a spoon and scooping the bone out , 20 yrs old and I've had this since I was 12
chris alexio yo dont know if youre gonna read this but damn i do the same thing bump it with a bottle cap hurts alot but idk it feels good and ive always wanted to cut it open and just take the bone out
LOL I use a book and try to flatten it out
Edy Sorto same I use anything to press down hard then like massage it to make it feel better then my knee let’s out a really loud crack after I bend it
chris alexio LMFAO!! I am 34 right now and everything you said was accurate! It hurts but it feels so good! I swear I thought about scooping it out as well!
Accurate sometimes i use my knuckles to tap it and it feels satisfyingly painful
I have this and I'm a girl. It hurts so much. This video helped me learn more about this disease. Thank you to the creator of this video.
I get bullied for being 'slow' from this disease , I used to be the fastest in my class , now I'm not I just wish I could still run , nobody believes me when I say I have this , I hope they get this disease , then they'll understand
😂😂😂😂bruh
I knew something was up with my knees but I thought it was just part of a growth spurt. I didn't know this was a legit disease that I needed to take time off sports from but here I am today: tired and sour from a light run. Stay strong folks
yeah. bad thing is, i was able to squat before, then my intelligent brain tells me , let s go for a run, after two runs, here i am , sad and squatless
Not a disease. Just inflammation.
its bc of masturbating😮
I've had this for the past two years and let me tell you, it sucks. I come home every day after sports with my left knee hurting and I can't do anything about it! :(
+JDP Trooper Hello JD....listen try some WD40 at night....just rub it till it's absorbed , not too much, then wrap it... do it for about 3 or 4 days....it will help.
JDP Trooper Well I have it too and playing sports could increase the pain, so I'd recommend that you perform in aquatic sport.
Who's Who it has gotten better over the past year because i have been resting it and havent been playing sports as often. Thanks for the reccomendation though!
JDP Trooper me too :/
Same man I’m a hopper and I can’t even dunk no more
I was diagnosed with osgood two years ago. I lost the ability to do sports. I have been doing stretches and other things to help my knee. So far so good.
how is it now bro?
Damn it made you stop playing sports?
Im new to all of this because I was told yesterday that I have it in my right knee and that I cant progress on my cross country career :(
Im only 13 and I have had knee pains since I was 10 but my mom thought it was growing pains. I am going for my first physio in a few weeks time, this video has really helped me gain my knowledge!
Bullshit out can still do any kinds of sport, I've had it since I was 11 and I'm 18 now. I'm supposed to get surgery next year once the bone fully attaches and this hasn't stop me from doing any type of sport. I'm one of those stubborn kids who don't like taking care of my knee so if you can take care of yours your performance would be better I suppose... but anyways the pain doesn't go away nor it heals when you de the stretches but it will reduce the pain and I find it better when I massage the bump. So don't worry and keep training just wear a knee sleeve and stretch before you run.
OMGosh I am in the same situation. but this is obviously three years ago for you so, how did the physio go!? :)
I have this, i'm 13 and it started about 5-6 months ago... Its really sucks and it has completely ruined my sports life. All I have to say for all of you is stay strong and don't let this get you down like it has me. It may have some physical limitations but anything is possible if you put your mind to it. It will get better like everything does but you may have to wait a while. I have 5 years till its gone and its going to be a hell of a ride. My point is don't let this depress you in any way and there's treatments. I'm just praying that its not chronic because if it is... I may not be able to play sports ever again. #StayStrongOsgoodSchlattersDisease
~ImBarleyFighting
ImBarleyFighting Damn 😳 I can't play football(soccer) for 1 year 😩 soccer is my passion
ImBarleyFighting you just gave me Hope💯💯
Imbarleyfighting. I see this comment is 2 years old. You still have it buddy? i do what can i do that is not stop doing sports?
U just had it? Or even had injury? Bcs i broke it during simple running..
@@ComanderComander u have to move, but dont to exercises that might even hurts a lil.. and u have to forget running and jumping and u need understanding friends parents and teachers( p.e) coaches or whatever u have, u just litetally have to be strong and patie t it can last for a lot time, beween 4 months-6 years. U have to do special exercises. Stay strong
The pain is very REAL!! I'VE HAD THIS SINCE I WAS 12 I'M 38 I'M OVER IT!!!! Definitely looking at surgery!!!! I'm 6' 2 kept my weight between 180 to 215 its not easy to live with, 215 just hurts WAY WAY TOO MUCH!!!, The surgery does look better now, than what they had in the 90's an very early 2000's
did you end up having the surgery? i'm 20 looking into getting these removed because the pain is getting worse
My mom took me to the doctor when I was 10. Doctor said it wouldn't be a problem. I'm 55 and I swear that this thing is growing and it's irritating from time to time.
55?
As someone with this who loves sports, when this truly began I felt like my life was ending. The pain I felt was the worst pain I've ever felt. Getting up the stairs was 10× harder then it needed to be. Running, walking, and doing things I love were much harder and much more painful. This started 3 years ago and I'm still going through it. It hurts still, especially after doing sports for more than 3 hours. But all I have to say to anyone else who has this, because most of the people who watch this probably do, is stay strong.
3 hours is too long, in my case it hurts when i do sports(basketball) for like 30mins; I can't jump I can't rebound and run fast because of the pain. I don't remember something hit this part and i dont know why it hurts.
Accidentally typed 3 hours and meant to put 2 , sorry, but yeah I completely understand. I remember once falling onto my knees in the middle of running a track race, when I got home I was in the most pain I've ever felt and here we are
@seyah6964 I'm 3 years into my osgood schlatter disease, if you put in the right excersises for the knee, it should get better and you should be able to do it for longer without it hurting
@@Kage_20 thanks man, I've already watched few exercises on yt. Trying to be better and better every single day with or without this disease. All love!
@@seyah6964 no problem man!
Had this as a kid on both knees from skateboarding. It was so bad from 11-14 that I could barely walk sometimes. Then from 14-18 it hardened and it would only hurt if I banged it against something or ran too much. Now at 24 the bumps feel like bone and it doesn’t hurt ever, the bumps are still a little sensitive tho
did you have a growth spurt? i just read that having this disease can help one to grow by 5+ inches
@@ABHIPRAYAMANDALStudent20-hu5jhwhen you have it, it definitely means you’re growing but the amount of growth still depends on your genetics.
How tall are you compared to your parents now ??. I heard it actually greatly increase height if you have it when your young 🤔
@@timexyemerald6290 I’m an inch taller than my dad and maybe 7 in taller than my mom. But that’s a rumor, these grow over your growth plates and impede your growth. My doctor told me I was supposed to be 3-4 inches taller. My two brothers are noticeably taller than me so I believe it lol
I had this around the early age of 10 and never knew what it was and ignored it. I'm 20 now and I use my affected knee in basketball, boxing (jump roping) etc. It doesn't really bother you until you've gotten use to it and outgrow it. I didn't know this case would be so serious to be called "Osgood Schlatter Disease" sounds intense but its really nothing when you continue exercises and feel no pain
so the pain will just stop one day?
We don’t have the same thing
When i started going to the gym doing some workouts and stretching it helped alleviate the pain but that was not enough so i had to drink fresh milk and jog every morning and apply ice to it every night
I agree
I too developed at my early age, i was wondering what it could be? I started hitting gym at 17years of age, now I'm 40. I've no pain or anything which can be worried for.
What i see is bone popping out that's it. I can run, jump & do gym..
I didn't find it ever hurting me, it was me worrying that's it. Hope this helps somebody of the same experience
I’ve had this since I was 9 and I’m almost 13. My doctor tells me not to do sports but that is the reason my sanity levels are stable. Walking, running, biking, and anything that has to do with my knees hurt. Some people just don’t understand what we are going through and just tell us to deal with it. I’ve been taught by my parents that I just have to deal with it. If you have been dealing with for many years, I would talk to your doctor or consider surgery. Best of luck and stay strong to anybody who suffer from Osgood Schlatters Disease.
Dr.Eb is such a blessing ,these teachings are so well done I wish he would do more on other things.
Thanks
I got this when I was ten and it hurt so bad that sometimes I could not even walk!! Icing it really helps with the pain. I had it in one knee but know I am pretty sure that my other knee has it. This video really helped me get more information about Osgood schlatter!!
All I did was play football and it feels like some sledgehammered the top of my shin
Fr
its started in one knee and stopped then my other leg grew it. anyone else had this happen?
Cj Jackson i got it in 6th grade. still have the bump and im a freshman. My left bump has gotten lower tho
Cj Jackson exactly what happened to me :(
Yeah but in both legs at the same time. Bruh i was only 13
Cj Jackson its killing me what should i do
Same crap happened to me when I was around 10 years old. I'm 17 now and the one in my left knee broke so I had to have surgery. Now the one in my right knee is starting to act up, it's been dormant for 7 years and now it wants to do this smh.
Alot of people don't understand the pain that we feel, like everyday at school people swing their legs and hit me. It hurts so much
same bro :(
Took a week off of basketball.. came back after spring break and after two days of playing pickup my knees are COOKED 😭 this is insane man
I play soccer and i have osgood schlatter, but my doctor told me to strech all my muscles in my legs every day and it helped tremendously!
had this at 9 on both knees my parents didn’t believe me until 13, probably playing for 2 football teams and training every day
OMG I'm 26 years old but unfortunately I'm facing this problem exactly in this video.. because I play volleyball. it's really make me the complete problem of my knee pain..thanx
You forgot the most important treatment: CORRECT quadriceps stretching to reduce tension on the tibial insertion. Incorrect stretching (pulling heel to bum) is harmful to the knee joint. Icing after activity and slow, proper warm up and cool down is essential to reduce swelling, pain and worsening of the condition.
You just saved me. Started doing those quad stretches pretty hardore for a bit.. now I know that's what was causing it. I read all the comment about people saiyng they've had it forever. Maybe because they continued to stretch their quads like that. I just got over another knee injury and I was just about done with everything. Thanks hopefully it was that and yeah hopefully its not too late to stop. Thx
What is the correct way to do quadriceps stretching?
I got it when I was 13 I am 15 now and i played soccer all the way through the pain, mind you I had to sit out much of the games in the spring when I was 13 but with stretching and ice constantly and get a brace FOR OCD you will get better. It will not work unless you stretch and ice everyday it is not hard JUST DO IT
Roman Milian that’s what my doctor told me lol
I've had osgod schlatters disease since I was 10 I'm now 12 and it's been worse than ever thanks for making this video
Had it for 2 years now. Don’t think it’s going away. RIP Tibia.
It may stop when your growth period ends. Or if it doesn't then you can get surgery.
I’ve had OSD for longer than I can remember AND GODDAMN IT HURTS. ITS NEVER GONNA GO I SWEAR
I have had it for 3 years now it is so painful but people that are out there be strong and dont let it stop you
I’m 27 and I’ve only had it for like 3 years. I think it started when I started going to the gym regularly for the first time in my life.
Same. I'm so fucking angry it isnt mentioned in the fitness industry. All this safety is first shit but they dont talk about this. I wouldve never pushed my legs as much if I knew this was one of the consequences.
@@howiseeit5326 me too. I’m 29 next month and while I’ve had no diagnoses (I have my first appointment this Friday), I’m 99% sure I have OSD and have had since 2018. I couldn’t afford anything better and cycled a crappy bike to work and back everyday for years and it’s ruined my knees, the left in particular. I really hope I get the diagnosis and surgery because it’s crippling not being able to enjoy exercise, and just walking or bending down is a constant struggle.
You have something else other than Osgood. Osgood only happens to adolescents... pre-teens and teenagers.
@@howiseeit5326 i dont think it is a consequence
Probably you had it before and gym have just accelerated it
I have the same situation
@@skrepkaskrepka2173 I’ve managed to persevere with it. Stretch it out and keep your knee very mobile( I do lots of walking) . The lumps still there but it doesn’t ache anymore. I can’t actually pin point when I got it. I just know I noticed it about a 6 months after constant gym. Used to love squatting. Truth is just be careful when working out and don’t push yourself a stupid amount unless you wanna risk injuries.
To all the people who are having this please do strengthening and stretching or else it won’t go away and look for physical therapy
Y'all people crying and whining needa chill out it's y'alls doctors fault cuz I have it and I'm curing it right now and ima be back in like 2 or 3 weeks
I had this in both knees as a kid and it was hell on Earth.
I’m 11 and I have it and I’m a competitive gymnast so I come home everyday and cry because it hurts and I don’t want to quit gymnastics
Developed this in both knees aged 12. Right knee gradually got better with time. Left knee got worse and worse. Doctors sent me for physio therapy. Taping of the knee. Home exercises. Bandages and supports. Nothing worked. They refused to operate here in the uk until i was 21 as the bones are fully grown by then. Waited the 9 years, had some bone removed and hey presto, fully cured. 28 now and tho my knees are still bumpy looking, they are not painful and I am still very active. Also they gave me opiates for pain relief after the surgery which was fucking sweet. lol
hI fren
I am also.having same problem since when I were 12 years
now I am 25
what should I do
plz help
I am from Nepal
treatment is quite difficult here
nizam kc
If you have it after 21 and the pain is very severe, surgery is the only option.
:(
how much it cost there? for both knees? any idea
and here I dnt think its possible
I live in England, its free here lol.
LambOfLucifer I'm just turned 14 and i noticed my knee started to hurt before the summer so around june and i had a soccer trip to denmark and it started to hurt more. what do you think i should do? i really want to continue my soccer career
im 26 years old. and it flares up on me when i run, squat at the gym, and when i play basketball... just made an appoinment for my dr. who else has this ove the age of 21??
Living EveryDay Sore I'm 21 now and I've had this for a couple years now
I find it hard to believe that it goes away with passage of time and enough rest. I've had it for about 15 years and even had to use a POP cast for about 6 months to reduce activity on it. I've stopped playing active sports since then - this is 2022 and it hurts even more. It is so limiting because I could have done well if I had a football career.
I got it back in 1962 at 12 years old. 60 years later and it’s never fully gone away. I survived though. Survived combat and 33 years in law enforcement and over 60 years of mma. But I knock it just right on either knee and It definitely gets my attention!
Damn bro I got it when I was 12 in my left knee and now I'm 19 and it had seemingly gone away until yesterday...
Everyone facing this should take immediate care. I did not do anything about it and I fractured it when I jumped from one leg and voila.
this definitely does not resolve once you are done growing.. It becomes painful as a an adult once you start doing dynamic and plyometric activity like jumping, kicking(kickboxing) etc. As an adult with this I would refrain from a lot of plyometric activities, keep your surrounding musculature in good flexibility and Ktape it if necessary. its just about managing this for the rest of your life if you do have it.
I finally find out I have this disease 😭💔. Turned 16 recently and have lived with it for like 4 years now. I pray it gets finished
Osgood schlatters victim here, 22 years old and been in the army for over 3 years now, consgantly got worse and worse over time, got told to do some physio exercises to strengthen the muscles outside the knee to decrease pain, but over time pain got more noticeable, to the point where it’d burn 24/7. Anyway just got new scans and got that bone snapped off and is now kinda like floating freely so i guess i need surgery :P getting medically discharged too cause of this
I wish the full video was in focus. makes it easier to read
Having OSD sucks, I have it in my left leg. Whenever I lightly hit it on something, it hurts so bad! I do trampolining and flips, and that kind of stuff. I'm 12, almost 13, and mine isn't too bad, but sometimes it really hurts, and sometimes it doesn't. Stay strong everyone!
Are you good now? Three years later...
Are you good now? Five years later…
How tall are you now compared to your parents?. I heard this deseas actually boosts your height growth a lot when you got it young
I have it. It hurts. I hate my life. I can barely walk now, it hurts to do simple things, and it makes me jealous seeing people doing it, when its so simple. I can't even get on my knees, to clean and stuff :(..I'm just trying to learn more about it.
Same, I can hardly walk. I was a soccer pro and had to quit and take up swimming:( my soccer team replaced my and forgot about me and now I can't even walk, so I can't start again) I hate swimming:( :( :(
Putting ice on it before I went to bed helped a little bit, also look up exercises to help.
Sy'Riana Maultsby same
Audacial it's doesn't come from weak thigh muscles, actually the stronger they are the more it hurts because it pulls it harder.
Sy'Riana Maultsby. I feel ya, it sucks. Hurts me when I sit and stand and everything else🙃
I have it too and I am a dancer so I have dance 3 times a week plus running up and down the stairs everyday at school. Sometimes I can barely walk, I recommend getting crutches that you can use at certain times. It really helps. I also wear a knee brace everyday (I also have a loose patella) and it makes it a little better.
I hit my knee on a desk at school and I wanted to cry lol
I feel your pain man!!
I was diagnosed when I was 10 but I started feeling pain around 9-8. My mom also has this in one knee, but I have it in both. My mom brushed it off as growing pain but it began to hurt even more. She took me to the doctor and he said that I had this disease. Now every time I bump it while doing gymnastics it hurts too much to bare. One time I hit the soft spot on the edge of a door and I thought "Oh crap my leg is broken!" im not joking XD
I went to my doctor to ask him about the bump, he told me what it was and everytime I crawl on the ground and put pressure on the knee it kills like a mofo ;D! Looking into treatment
Antoine7000 I feel you, whenever I hit it *VERY LIGHTLY* it hurts so bad! 😭 having OSD sucks
Yup, then we decided a gel knee wrap works soooooooooooooooooo well.
Guys don’t feel worry about it , it’s normal injury but takes time to heal , rest from your sports for like 3 months , during this 3 months do stretching exercises 15 minutes per day. , then you can return to your sport eventually… DON’T PLAY AGGRESSIVELY START EVENTUALLY
That’s a POV from someone who went through this and now he is on Top Form
I ve been living with it for 15 years. It didn't resolve even after growth stopped.
Don’t worry dawg I still have that shyt and I’m 23
i got it too but it doesn’t hurt me. i got when i was 12 and now i’m 17, i heard it goes away once your around 18 i’m assuming it’s false ?
@@alexlopez5709for sum yeah. i've had it since i was 12. im currently 20 and they still bother me
Got the occipital surgery to remove some of the tendon + fluid and did 6 months pt. Im 21….super healthy and was very well built before my injury at 5’10 172lbs around 12/13% BF….even while healthy and 6 months pt, NOBODY tells you that its actually knee exercises to help with jumping, and that your hips are probably too tight as well as shins, you have weak tibialis and glutes, and possibly meed insoles to increase the arch in your foot.
I'm a girl and it was discovered when I was almost 10 in both of my knees. Never got any treatment, because my doctor said it would be fade with time and disappear 'till I'm 21, but that I should only do gym exercises or swimming (but I couldn't swim, 'cause I got my nose and throat operated)... Fortunately my condition never got worse, despite the pain when the weather is wet, too cold or too hot (I'm like an old lady)...
Now I'm 19 and I'm sad (and with a really bad pain) to say that due hormonal diseases I gained a lot of weight in the past 2years, witch caused a lot of strain for my knees and the healing process will last much more years before it's cured...
I have had it since I was like 14 and I can remember it or should I say feel it like it was yesterday. I was planning ball with my dad and I was winning took a jump shot and I felt and hard a pop. So much pain and after that I could not bend my knee four at least 8-10 months. I could tap the knot with my finger and so much pain would come from that. After I got my leg to fully bend again I got but and I was one of the track runners at my school/ long jump. Yes I still felt pain quit often. Now I and 36 and I feel a pinching pain in my joint when I walk up the stairs. I am looking to have surgery here in a few months. Best advice I can give you is say in the gym working on your legs and knees to make them stronger. Don't not get a cortisone shot I repeat do not get a cortisone shots.
if your young and you have this
don't worry it will go away
you have to take a lil time off sports tho.
I had this lasted about 2 years
I couldn't even sit in a car for long periods of time
i had osd as a kid apparently but doctor put it down to growing pains, now im 27 and my knee all the way down to my toes is swollen, its so painful xray confirmed its osd just waiting on mri scan, foot swelling finely gone down a bit ( ankle swelling not going atal) after 2 and a half weeks on crutches, some people think this doesn't affect adults but it can do im keeping my fingers crossed something can be done im worried about walking to much incase the swelling comes back fully never mind sports my life is really depressing me atm

Ugh I have this and everyone in my class thinks I'm faking it and it's so annoying. I have a high pain tolerance so it's not always obvious when I'm in pain but if they could feel it they would be in tears. Even my PE teacher thinks I'm faking it, but I've been diagnosed by my GP, and my physiotherapist agrees. I just wish it would stop I'm I'm so much pain. I know there are worse off people but I miss doing sports.
because of this disease with no quick treatment i should stop doing what i love but the thing is that i cant even run sometimes and its very scary and painful 😣
Guess what guys, this doesn't get any better once you stop growing. I'm almost 33 and I've had this since early teens. Still painful and I still can't kneel on it. Any regular lower body exercise aggravates it and causes lots of pain.
We all know the pain when you try to squat
i wish i knew this before ( discovering this today at the age of 26), have this since i was 12
I had a very angry life. When I was younger, about 11 or 12, I got so pissed about everything in my life at the time that I ran away from home. I kept running and walking and I reached about a mile and a half down the road when I finally returned to my senses because it was getting dark and fast. I live out in the country, so if a hungery animal wanted a 12 year old boy to eat it would take it. So I started running back home, pocket knife in hand to defend myself. I was almost half way home and thats when I felt a loud SNAP and it was my left knee. It didn't hurt because I was so hyped on adrenaline. I kept walking because I could tell something was wrong with my knee. After that, a few minutes later, I cut myself with my pocket knife and blood was running all over my hand. I got home, and a few days later we went to the doctors to find out what was wrong with my left knee, and it turned out to be the Osgood - Schlatter Disease.
Like my comment, or I'll punch you so hard in the knee that it'll give you Osgood.
Getting Osgood is NOT good! Getting Osgood is like super cracking a super knuckle and it skrews your knee up.
Even your life for some people, if their dream is to be an athlete. The world just takes a massive steaming hot pile of shit right on your knees and it takes your dreams away. I never wanted to be an athlete, but I can understand for those that did want to be.
I'm 11 and I got osgood schlatters from my gymnastics career. I had to take 6 months off my knee and i was put into cast and physical therapy. My team left me and now I'm farther than ever. But hey...thats life.
lol carrer and knowing what life is ur 11 but its cool 😂😂
+bruh bruh same
I've has osgood schlotter for 6 years now (currently 16) and i feel fine. There still a big lump and it hurts if i put pressure but i can still run and jump fine. As a matter of fact I'm currently doing hurdles for track and i jump fine in that as well
Hi, i need ur update
I was daignosed with this at 13, I am 19 now and still have it.
I’ve had this since I was about 12 and I fell knee first directly onto the corner of a wooden bed frame once. Worst pain ever. 30 now and it feels good to press on in the hurts so good kind of way.
I had this problem since and its not bothering at all
had this while playing football in highschool. its finally went away and I dont have anymore pain
Decemburrrrrr how long did it take cause I've been had it for 3 months and it still didn't go away (am 14)
Clashofgamer97 around my junior year, i believe 16 or 17
Did you grow in height?
yungmatt009 i was like 5'7 probably going into freshman year and i finished growing like sophomore year and im 5'10
Decemburrrrrr so you had it when you were 5'7, correct?
I only got the understand this disease much later in my life. I got this disease since my primary school when I was often punished to do squats for failing at spelling bee exercises.
The pain will disappear with time.
All the time I was pushing myself doing squats, lunges, long runs all that hard work for this fucking bump. How on earth this isnt talked about by PTS or anyone in the fitness industry is worrying. Honestly if I'd knew this bump would form I wouldve never fucking bothered. Chance of becoming a body builder is over.
A week ago i bumped onto the bath tub right under my left knee....the pain was excruciating for 3 days....I had Osgood condition when I was 14 and it self resolved within a year or so. I have no prominent bump on either knee - the swelling receded back then. Now I am 43 so I was pretty much surprised by the intensity and duration of the pain.
I've had this since like 11 years old on my right leg. I'm now 24 and I still have it. The pain is not as severe as it was back then but I still can't be in one knee using the right leg. If I put my knee on the ground it hurts like hell because the bump is holding all my weight. It's also hard to stand up mainly using my right leg. I can feel the pain in the bump. Don't know what this means. Am I still growing or is this something else? How can I get rid of this damn bump??
I feel you. I can totally relate. 😟 And it is on my right leg also... and coincidently got it at 11 years old, same as you.
@@GDName can i join the club of the right knee?!
Me tooo 😔 I am a power lifter and this is effecting my squat numbers
hey everyone, I had this condition on both legs. in my early 20's I decided that I didn't want to have this condition anymore. So what I did was hit the Osgood schlatters bump on both legs I was determined to rid myself of this uncomfortable condition. As many can attest that kneeling down is painful to say the least. what I did was simple, I bore the brunt and kept knocking on the bump with force using the lower palm of my hand. What resulted was that I was able to make the right leg bump sink
+rnDSQ how long it took you?.....you do not appear serious.
It took possibly 3 days of trying with 15 mins each time. Sorry if I seem insincere. I also may have forgot to mention is that I believe I likely have extended (straightened, not bent) my leg in order to do the knocking of the protruded lump.
I am 16 years of age and I suffer from this I both knees! This has ruined my life, i haven't ran in a few years now due to the pain 😭 please help!

Stretch your hamstrings.
+tigersfan79 yeah I have been stretching every day for a while now but thank you for your suggestion :)
_Mad Chris_ you might need to get surgery, you should talk to your doctor, I would recommend icing them 3 time a day and do thigh and hamstring stretches
I'm glad my pain went away when I turned 18
Well I'm a 15 year old girl with it in both knees! According to this I am quite rare!😂
Elise O'Connor I have it in both too
Elise O'Connor I also have it in both😭😭😭

You don't do sports do you.
I’m a 12 year old boy and had this since I was 12, it’s a true pain 🤦🏽♂️ I have it in both knees I play through the pain in basketball. My doctor told me I should take a break from it but I don’t want to and I will not.
I hot Osgood Schlatter disease... it hurt so badly! I walk on crutches.. I feel so bad.. I cant even take my stuff in class, my sis needs to help me.. so.. don't think it's nothing.. I'm 11 now, it will stay till I'm 16.. it will be till you stop growing😪😶

@@madeliefschol6253 dıd you cry what dıd the doctor say for the solutıon
@@yahyakoc5569 I did cry.. I still do.. it isn't nice, the doctor said it would take long to get over it.. he had it for longer than two years.. I'm now around 3 or 4 months.. I cant play hockey and it sucks.. I'm the couch in the field and middle.. they really need me.. "you won't be able to be sporting.." that's what he said.. I cried so hard at home.. Do you have it then?
Icing helps a lot, and copper-zinc infused kinetic tape in an X shape right over the bump
I had these in both knees. Kept coming back for years. I hated it
this is the worst thing to have if you are a ball player,It really slows you down and prevents you from jumping really high, plus if it were to get hit in the middle of the game it takes time to heal so you gotta sit it out instead of playing
Thank you!
Fuck it im still playying soccer
DILDO SWAGGINS same i ice way less than I should then I just give up and play basket ball
4 realllll
DILDO SWAGGINS same
sameeeee literally im having it for one and a half year and im still playing football
My due I play soccer to, I put ice every time I finish a game
I have had it a few months and I’ve been seeing physio since the first time it hurt, physio gave me excersises to make my quads stronger she said it should go away
Was on my trampoline and i jumped and it felt like something pulled apart in my knee. That was last year when i was 14. It only hurt for 3 or 4 months. Now im 15 and i can run just fine but when i hit my knee on something it hurts like a mother. im scared to jump again. Hopefully this will clear up when I stop growing and ill be back in shape.
i had this from 13-14 yrs old and last year when i was 14 i jumped on my right leg for a left hand layup and my upper tibia was fractured now im 15 and the bump is still there but no pain u jus gotta do stretches, excercises and some physiotherapy excercises
I got told I had this today, I have a bandage on right now 😂😫
are you good now? :)
Hey guys I know how to stop most of the pain when you run only do this when your walking a lot or running. Just get any wrapping material and below the bump wrap it on like the bottom half of the bump and below it too, it takes off the pressure
I was playing basketball the other day and woke up eith this very painful hard bump on my knee and now idk what todo😭😭😭
