    Ok, so to sum it up:
    Sky+: Stride length guys, longer runs, bigger/heavier guys. Bouncier and more cushioned (thicker midsole)
    Edge+: more cadence, snapier plate, more agressive toe off, firmer feeling
    Conclusion: I'll get the Novablast 3 anyway because I don't race lol

    If the Edge+ has a higher drop, that means less foam in the forefoot, which could be why it feels less cushioned. How they managed to make it 5 grams _heavier_ than the Sky that way is a mystery to me. Not that the 5 grams matter, but it's still curious.

    Can you guys do a "Supershoes for Triathletes" video? I know Thomas and Meg both dabble in triathlons, and maybe the pure runners can tolerate one tri-oriented video. Like which one do I want on my feet when I'm in the last 10k of an IM marathon, which is a very different question than what do I want on my feet in the last 10k of a straight marathon? (I wore the NB RC Elite V2 for an IM last year based on its versatility, but wondering what to go with this year.)

  • @602dugans5

    Ran in the Sky last year and the Sky+ feels softer underfoot and less irritating to my Achilles while still getting that pop. Wider foot with more volume makes AF/VF not fit well for me. Completely love these- these will be my marathon race shoe.

  • @jimoconnor8597
    @jimoconnor8597 2 года назад +1

    Ran in my Sky + last night for a 6 mile WO. A lot firmer than I expected after all the reviews of V1 and V2. For me, ZoomX is still far superior as well as the NEXT% and AF being better for a race. It was tough for me to get leg turnover. I'll keep for longer workouts that need some speed. I'll take my Puma Nitro Elite over this shoe for a race too. Only advantage I'll give Asics is the color way. Pops!

    Nice summary and comparison to last year's experiences in the shoes. Interesting how you felt like you changed to the Edge this year.
    Last year I don't recall hearing much about the edge after launch, it was all about the Sky! But Robbie's comparison of last year's sky to this year's edge might suggest that the Edge was a bit off

    I tried both of these on and did a very little bit of running in the store, but I went in biased by the hunch that I seem to epitomize ASICS’ intended runner for the Edge+ (By the way, have you guys noticed the box they come in says “2” instead of “+”?). For me, both of them were noticeably roomier up front than the OG versions which I tried on at the Boston Expo with similar socks so I think the are a bit longer. I could probably happily run in either one, but with my very high cadence, light weight and petite stature, the Edge won for me. Some are saying the Sky is more suitable for marathon distance, but I favor the higher toe drop of the Edge for that because it’s my calfs that tighten up in late marathon miles, so I’d rather not predispose myself further to barking calfs with a lower drop. In fact, at step-in, the Sky felt like almost like a negative drop especially when compared to the Edge. The toe-off geometry in the Edge seemed odd at first but only when walking; it disappeared completely for me running at virtually any pace. And I would hardly call it a “ground feel” shoe, especially by old standards! Unlike Meg, I tend to steer away from extremely high stack, very soft midsoles. I did an 8 mile run in these right out of the box and had no hot spots or discomfort and didn’t need a runner’s knot/extra holes to prevent slippage. See you guys in Denver (and maybe Boulder tomorrow too), Martha

    My guess is within 18 months one of these shoes are gone. I don't see many retailers willing to carry both. Additionally, sales associates (even running shoe geeks) will have difficulty explaining the difference between the two shoes--and forget about it if you're working with 3 or 4 customers at the same time.

      I work at a retailer and there is a feeling in the industry that Asics are slowly starting to pull away. Wouldn't be surprised in 10 years time if they completely withdrew and had their own Asics shops across the globe

    • @gs2697
      @gs2697 2 года назад

      I absolutely loved the idea in theory but now that I’ve had and tried both shoes, I think having two options actually creates a different problem. Like you said customers will now need and want to try on both pairs to feel sure they’ve made the right decision. Tbh I’m not even sure which one I like more which makes me uneasy when picking one over my tried and true VF2. Going extra lengths to differentiate the two shoes at least by color might go a long way

    My running shoes have always been neutral.
    I tried the Nike Vaporfly running shoes and they were soooo aggressive that the strain on my heel area caused a lot of problems. For me, they were very difficult to wear for long-distance runs
    The Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 has been the perfect running shoe. So much so … that I bought as many as I could as they were being phased out
    I am now looking for a new running shoe.
    Is the Asics Metaspeed Edge comparable to the Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 ?
    Does anyone have any thoughts on a comparable running shoe to the old Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 ? The strike was great ... not sooo aggressive that it put enormous pressure on my heels

    If I understand correctly, Thomas likes the Edge better because of the toe push off with the plate? I just bought the Sky+ and went on an easy three mile run. It's my first plated shoe, and it's definitely different. I want to train for a marathon with it later this year, and I liked it a lot.

    • @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
      @levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 2 года назад +2

      I say if it suited you, don’t worry about it. We’re all different. I tried both and liked them both, but went with the Edge for a few reasons: I’ve tried 2 carbon plated shoes, neither of which worked for me. The Next% hurt the ball of my R (larger) foot, and the RC Elite2 was too soft for very long distance for me, so felt energy-sapping instead of helpful. As a result, I’ve been using the Endorphin Speeds for HM’s and marathons. When I heard about the Edge’s intended type of runner it seemed to definite me-light, efficient, very high cadence from Day One-& I also prefer the 8 mm drop because it’s my calf’s that get tightest in the last miles of a marathon, so the 5 mm drop would probably exacerbate that. You might want to take your Edge to a store that carries the Sky and reassure yourself with a little running on their treadmill or just how it feels on foot. To me, just walking, it felt like a negative drop! Martha

    I have recently bought with my own UK pounds the Asics Metaspeed Edge+, I absolutely love them. negatives: I am finding that the heal is a little lose for me, no blisters as of yet, probably I also wear twin skin sockets. Sidenote: I have been uptil now a Saucony fanboy ie Kinvara 12 & Speed 2, however these are like nothing else I have ever tried. Pros: I nicknamed them the "Wild Stallions", simply because you cannot run slow in them, paces are sub 8.00 per mile out of the blocks, easy become fartlegs, then become tempo or 9 mile VO2 max on the road, I have seen cadence increases, speed increase, distance vs efficiency gains. I have even manage 4.20 per mile in short bursts, which is crazy fast for me, as I have only been running again for just over 8 months. All I can say is #shoeoftheyear2022 for me.

    • @gs2697

      I’d say the sky feels more stable just because the plate to foam ratio directly under your foot stays consistent since the plate is much flatter in the sky. Shoes with lower drops also tend to be slightly more stable in my experience

      Here to confirm Wonky Donkey: I tried the OG versions of both at the Boston Expo in April and while they felt ok in my usual W9, swollen feet might make them miserably on the short side in a marathon. They definitely remedied this in the new version. I have plenty of room in my same equivalent unisex size, so I feel they changed the last at least a bit. I can even wear a medium (as opposed to thin) sock with the Edge+ I just took on a maiden 8 mi voyage in warm weather over the weekend. And 9 is my usual size in the majority of shoes across various brands. So I’d say true to size. Martha
