Something I heard in another tech podcast and it sort of made sense is... We don't moderate telephone calls between people so how can we moderate chats between people. Social media, yes because it's like a public display like a billboard so that should be moderated to prevent hate-speech, but chats that are between two people or a private group of people can't be the same that phone calls are not. That's the balance of free speech I think.
One thing I have noticed in a lot of tech media coverage of things related to security patches and the like.... There's an emphasis on the need to upgrade from older hardware for security reasons but very little assessment of the risk reward. Not just to the individual user and the financial cost involved but e-waste and the downsides of perfectly good hardware ending up in the landfills. It's hard to say without more study but I think it's not a unreasonable hypothesis that the e-waste problem is a more pervasive and urgent concern than an individual using devices that are slightly past they're technical end of life in terms of security patches.
Your interraction with YT help is not unlike many of my attempts to communicate a simple problem to a help desk. Every call is a French Farce. And that conditioning gave me the patience to deal with she-who-must-be-obeyed because not a word of what I say enters her mind with any of the meaning I put behind it.
Maybe not well known. Using a custom profile in any browser based of Firefox will not work properly unless you use the launch option -P for Firefox and specify the profile name you want. Let's see if Firefox devs fixes it now.. or just keep ignoring it so their telemetry/opt-out-spying continues to work even for profiles when using the ProfileUI tool..
I went from Windows to MacOS due to dissatisfaction with Microsoft. I would love to switch to Linux, but as someone who does photography, the software support is just not there. I don't know of *any* commercial photo editing software with Linux support, and unfortunately the options that are available for Linux are simply not as good.
Good on you to switch from Windows! I really hope Linux gets to a place where commercial photo editing is a normal thing. GIMP can be solid, but I agree it's not for every use case, especially commercial.

It's a great question! Would love to see more discussion around it (and we love security!)

I turned this video on to my mom and now she wants to be a blogger too. Looks like we have a family project👅
