How Lauren Wasser, the Model With Golden Legs, Made a Triumphant Return | Vogue
She seems like she's very comfortable where she's at in life now. I give her a ton of credit, because she's not only alive after going through that, but is actually living her life.
She's very fortunate and is clearly grateful and humble for her circumstances. I wish I could say the same thing for the millions of Americans who are disabled and can't receive the same kind of healthcare treatment.
She is beautiful
.
well..maybe she just puts a brave face ...what do we know ..? she is a trooper anyway ....btw cant believe they still sell these tampons in 2018 ..
Im happy for her, but its kind of sad to me that she wasnt -this- well known and popular before.
She actually looks pretty cool with those golden legs.
Best legs ever
What about her normal legs? All legs matter dude😒
A &F you saying them golden legs aren’t normal bruh? Fuckin glm! Golden legs matter!
Holy Jebus stfu

I honestly had no idea how serious TSS could be, that’s crazy.
I didn't even know what that was. (I'm french so maybe it just has another name.) So I looked it up !

@@mathieufredette3157 it's mentioned in the leaflet that is in every box of tampons in the UK telling you how to insert etc: & has been since I started using them in the early 80's. I suppose many women don't read the leaflet in full.
@@sarahholland2600 i saw another interview with her where she explained how she started feeling sick a couple of minutes after inserting the tampon. She didn't kept longer than recommended or anything
Hello beautiful how are you doing
What a woman, what a fighter, what a trooper. RESPECT! A great inspiration for people in similar circumstances. She doesn't lie down and cry about it, she doesn't want sympathy for it, she owns it.
This is so what the world of fashion needs, representing disabilities / amputees and womxn’s health issues. Amazing!
Exactly so very true!! Thank you!👏🏾👏🏾 Yes, because I am disabled too in a wheelchair.
🌷🌈🤗
ellendoesleather Men have disabilities and health issues too. And they are less likely to express being afflicted by mental illness. Health is not exclusively a women’s issue.
T D of course :) I was only referring to Women’s health issues related to Menstruation. Men’s health issues also need more awareness. Thanks :)
I fully agree !
She 100% looks like her mom.

I remember when the toxic shock syndrome came out in the early 1980s. I thought it only had affected that one woman who died back then, and maybe a few others, because I hadn't heard of it since that one incident What a surprise to find it has affected so many women. I'm glad she is doing something abatout it with that congresswoman.
That attitude, mindset, and resilience is simply amazing.
She has not only golden legs, also her heart and mind.

That is so sweet and touching...it is a beautiful words to say🌺

A role model, model indeed!
But if she takes off her legs and lays on the floor, she would now be a roll model
Lauren is such a tomboy and I love it! She oozes a healthy balance of feminine and masculine energy effortlessly, and she owns her worth
Perfectly articulated
I really love when people have fun or pretty prosthetics and mobility aids. I always decorate my wheelchair and walker and love it. it's hard to draw attention as a disabled person, but the self expression is so worth it.
I'm so dumb lol. When she said I grew up with "model" parents, I immediately thought she meant parents who are so good at parenting that they set an example for how to be a good parent.
You're not dumb, that's what us normals would assume :D

Use cloth pads or menstrual cup. Better for the environment as both are reusable, and better for health.
@@bumpet4017 menstrual cups have been shown to also cause TSS.
@@rumblefish9 Where is the statistics for all period products? Cups are safer than regular tampon and pads. It's also environment and budget friendly, buy one and it lasts for a long time. Same goes with cloth pads.
Instead of dumping our planet with disposable, single-use tampons, pads, toilet paper, and wipes, please consider healthier options for yourself and the environment.
@@bumpet4017 I agree with you re: the environmental effects of a cup vs tampons. But any foreign material inside the body can be a medium to harbor bacteria. But it’s actually safer to use a tampon and change it often than a menstrual cup that you only wipe down and re-insert in your body cavity.
If you were to go to a doctor’s office; would you rather they use a brand new tool to poke and prod you or an old one that’s been wiped down?
Good grief, she is BEAUTIFUL! I really admire how she took a difficult situation and not only thrived but is working to help others.

I am shocked that every body is commenting how great she looks and nobody seems concenrs about the toxics tampons that are the reason why she got her both legs amputated
I dont think u know about the correlation between TSS and tampons. You should research it
It's when an tampon is left in too long that it gives someone TSS, I think. No tampon chemicals.
Yep that is the fashion world . All vanity , no substance. My post was all about tss
I was thinking...never using tampons! It would be so easy to leave one in too long, and she had a heavy flow so Im guessing that hastened the TSS
@i don't care that you broke your elbow yeah?
Watching this made me look up what TSS actually was.
I'm 60 & never heard of it, but I'm now wiser.
This is a remarkable young lady who seems to have taken what life has given her and made the best use of it.
Well done & stay positive. Life is for living, not for wasting on being miserable. Either way, you only have *ONE* chance.
She walks so naturally with her prosthetics. Kudos to whoever built them and helped her learn to walk again. And so happy she didn't let her loss take her down, she looks great

Yesss😍😍
She said both her parents were models at the beginning of the video
@@swadey2.017 Yes, but I don't think models are always pretty.
How does she balance so well with 2 prosthetic legs? Ive never seen anyone without a limp or soemthing.
Toma and experience....?
K-rex she still has her knees. She’s a below knee amputee. It’s harder when you are an above knee amputee.
It's because she has fantastic muscle strength, good fitting prosthetic socket, suspension method, alignment and appropriate foot for her activity level. It's certainly very impressive to see! Her prosthetist has done a fantastic job!
A good illustration of a poor prosthetic fit and alignment was in the clip of her on the catwalk with only her right leg amputated. Her knee was thrusting outwards and she was walking horribly. That's due to the poor suspension of the leg (which she mentioned how it felt like it was going to fall off) and poor prosthetic alignment. The alignment may have been ok for everyday walking but when doing a catwalk models will step further inwards to enhance the hip movement. In simple terms, this shifts her weight line to a point where her muscles can no longer control causing the knee to thrust outwards. This can be easily fixed by simply changing the alignment
Also she probably had great posture before hand being raised by models
The courage this young lady has demonstrated is off the charts. God bless her in taking on disabilities an example for the world to see.
hawaru friend came please Pakistan ILOVEU
I saw an interview she had and how to she told the horrifying story of what she's been through. Now she is on the other side, living the life she was meant to live. She deserves all the happiness and success. you rock Lauren!!!
I know it sounds odd, but those golden legs suit her. She looks strong, proud and even like a superhero. She is beautiful with a spirit I can't even imagine. So consider all that along with this comment. How about someone (designer/corp/whatever) makes her clear acrylic legs? If the joints or connections must be another material, paint that material silver or maybe gold. I was trying to think of a way so that she showcases the clothes on a catwalk without the golden legs overpowering (ironic yes?) the outfit. In any event this woman is more of a MODEL than a model. Thank you Vogue and Lauren Wasser for sharing!
@Kelvin Singing Channel Acually in this case you're wrong, because the legs are not exacly a part of her body. So its a fashion thing. But when it comes to implants in a human body, you're right.

Her gait is amazing. Having a numb right leg, I know how hard it would be if both of my legs were numb! She has a nice looking gait! I hope she goes far! She has, already, accomplished so much. She is so beautiful.

Lady Golden Legs.
The 'joy de vivre' and confidence she radiates bedazzles me, I've never seen this on people with disabilities. That's the whole point... She doesn't live with this that way, while a lot of people (including myself) live with a mindset of what we can't do, what we don't have, what should have been and so on and so on. What an inspiring lady this is!
Toxic Shock Syndrome first became known to the world back in the early 80s, when Rely Tampons--a new brand--came out, and young women were dropping left and right, as in dying. So strange that almost 40 years later, this is still an issue? I hope it's a rare issue. This young woman is amazing.
PenelopeDinkledong S all because of tampons? Why? Like how? Wow, never use a tampon once in my life (was born in PH, I never saw one in the market)
@@kyupified2440 me neither
The only reason why it's still happening is because they are misusing the absorbency of the tampons everyone thinks you have to have use super or ultra because they are afraid of leaks I rather have a leak than have a super absorbent tampon sucking the life out of me and poisoning me.
TSS is exceedingly rare and you don't need to use tampons to get it. You can develop it after a surgery. In America the chances of getting it are 1in 100K. Deaths per year average at 2-3 people.
One year ago I was for 2 weeks in intensive care at hospital for the TSS. My chance of surviving was very very because they didn’t know what I had (the TSS is so rare and I was the first one of the hospital I went to having it) and never experienced it. I also used the “Super” tampons and I regret it so so much..
This shows you can do anything no matter what gets in the way. Its great to see the world of fashion respects disabilities🌍💖🌺
Coz she's rich tho
Ikr ❤️❤️❤️
Money and privilege helps, though. She was blessed enough to afford golden legs along with the healthcare she received. There are literally millions of disabled Americans who do not have this luxury and are struggling to receive even a fraction of what she's got.
She is also beautiful. Rich, first world, beautiful, elite, blonde, white girl loses legs and tere is not really a problem.
if you have money
Is it me or does she walk with those golden legs like they are her REAL legs, WOW!

The fact that, something that is considered as an essential could potentially kill you, is making me angry. I might not know how it feels to go through menstruation, but more needs to be done to ensure that, these products are safe for everyone who uses them.
"More research has been done on coffee filters than on tampons." Is not pleasing me at all. 💔
You do go through manstration, though. While it's obviously not the exact same thing (no....you know... expelling of...stuff..) men also experience cyclic hormonal peaks and valleys throughout the month.
As far as what I've read, depending on your natural testosterone levels, you may not even notice, or you may have extreme mood swings during certain times of the month. This is one of the reasons why people who take steroids and testosterone treatments become so emotional, and experience 'roid rage. Hormonal treatments of any kind can affect a person this way.
A good way to track this, is to use your phone, a calendar, or a diary. At the end of each day, quickly jot down how you felt that day. If you're consistent, after a few months you'll start to see patterns, and then you can sort of predict when your hormonal ups and downs are going to happen. Like women, some men are like clockwork, and others have completely unpredictable cycles.
Again, I'm not a doctor or an expert, but I've read up on it, and noticed it in men I've lived with. Whether it's a long-term partner, a roommate, friend, or my Dad. Unless it's been debunked since my own lazy research, that is, but as I said before, I've totally noticed it in the men in my life.
That is a very thought comment
Makes me so happy that you actually care!
Yep. A tampon almost made me pass out when I was about 21. I never used them again. That backed up blood is also really stink when you pull it out.

On another note, it blows my mind how there is no transparency when it comes to feminine hygiene products. The chemicals and toxins they use on them that we put inside our bodies on a regular basis.....And how we only have a handful of choices when it comes to types of products we can use for our periods.
There should be more research on TSS as well as women’s health in general and more awareness.
Companies should do better. Medical field should do more research. We deserve better as women.
there is research on tss, misuse of feminine products increases risk... its good that she is representing the movement for awareness :)
its not about the chemicals on them its about bacteria which grow and release toxins in ur blood flow ! she used a tempon for too long that made the bacteria grow and bec tempons might make cuts in ur private area that made the toxins inter her blood flow which lead to the TSS , ppl shouldn’t use tempons just skip the beach for a week better than getting ur legs being lost !
*We deserve better as women*... irked me a lil bit
Manga Girl but it's true and we should say that out loud because so far we "deserved worse as women"
It just irked me a lil teeny tiny bit because when I read it, my head processed that line as 'we deserve better because we are women'. I mean we do, though in fact every humans do. But I guess I was just sensitive to that line because I like to think of people objectively as a whole, not because I'm a man or a woman, but because I'm a person. So if it were me, I'd rather use the word *consumers, buyers, customers, or purchasers* (but it's just me though).
Her golden legs are so cool! Her attitude and drive are super inspiring and I love that she’s using her experiences to push for positive change. What a woman!
