      They said in the video TSS is commonly caused by using tampons, which is what happened to her. The warnings on tampon labels say you shouldn't leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours because of TSS, but she insists she had her tampon in for less than 8 hours. I believe she sued the company that made the tampons and reached a settlement.

      Storm Bolt Lol, not really an option when you’re an extremely heavy bleeder. Also, pads carry the exact same risk so please don’t act like tampons are the devils period product and pads will save your life. It’s extremely misleading.

    • @Spyrika
      @Spyrika 5 лет назад +41

      @@astrea4020 They are an option, you're just choosing not to use the kind designed for a heavy flow and don't use them properly if you do, hence why you don't think they're an option. You're also automatically rejecting the thought of a menstrual cup and think I'm only talking about pads. Please stop acting like I just hurt a tampons feelings and you need to stick up for em because I boosted a pads ego too much. Pads are best for if you're still learning to not be forgetful about hygiene. What argument are you trying to start anyway?

    I've used tampons since the age of 13 the box clearly states what can occur if you leave it in too long. It's dangerous. Change it REGULARLY And alternate with pads. Use the CORRECT tampon for your flow and avoid SUPER plus if you have a light flow.

    • @rubyluna4271
      @rubyluna4271 5 лет назад +16

      she used it properly and only had it in for a few hours...which is terrifying. i stopped using tampons after a few months ago when one broke off inside of me and i had to go to the hospital to get it removed. It was the U by kotex brand. Thank god i didn't get TSS....tampons and pads are actually really bad for your body and the environment. Tampons, pads and panty liners along with their packaging and individual wrapping generate more than 200,000 tons of waste per year, and they all contain plastic. They're all bleached and soaked with chemicals and cause people to get worse cramps than they would without wearing them or using an alternative (especially tampons) and also because of the chemicals you're more likely to develop TSS. Thats why everybody should try out a menstrual cup or reusable pad! I understand they're not for everyone, but i just like to spread this info because a lot of people don't know.

      aliciabrillante Are pads less toxic?

    • @franslam7398
      @franslam7398 5 лет назад +15

      @@donnawoodford6641 Yes. The difference is that inserting something you leave inside you (tampons) for long periods of time that encourage bacteria to stay in your body until you remove the foreign object is what causes the problem. Specifically, tampons soaked in blood support the faster growth of bacteria. If you leave it inside you too long you increase the risk of the bacteria becoming toxic and releasing its toxins into your bloodstream. Toxins are released from those bacterias that -- if left in too long --cause the issue, that's why tampons pose more of a risk as they promote a faster breeding ground for bacterial growth within the body. Pads don't come with that risk because they sit outside you and are just there to catch what exits. You're not forcing the blood & bacteria to stay inside you. Pads allow you to let out what always should come out.

Some women have good hygiene and use tampons for only a few hours and still get TSS. It can happen to anybody (even if it's rare, it still happens to regular women). The issue comes from the chemical cocktail companies use to make the tampons (and pads). Companies aren't transparent about what exactly they put in their products and tend to minimize the toxicity

      Yes I was a teen in my 80s and I remember how shocked we all were to hear that tampons could be deadly. My mom begged me to stop using them. I only used them on occassion after that.

    Pads carry the same risk as well and they're also bleached with chemicals. Pads are not a life saver and the risk is still there. Only difference is that you don't have to remind someone to change a pad cause you see how used it is and the smell is horrid. I honestly don't know why we have to be reminded to change tampons since they don't just continue to soak up blood indefinitely. Once used up, it'll most certainly leak through. That reminder must be mainly focused towards the end of your cycle when one could last the whole day. While wiping clear all day without soaking through, some forget the tampon is still there. It's best to use liners or pads for those days so you don't forget

    I love those golden legs! So cool, and she rocks them.
    But side note: I wish more girls/women knew about menstrual cups. Very similar to tampons with no risk associated for Toxic Shock Syndrome.

    • @jenntip
      @jenntip 5 лет назад +12

      That's not really accurate...
      "Tampons aren’t the only thing that can cause toxic shock syndrome. Menstrual cups and any other products that retain blood over an extended period of time can create a similar environment that can cause bacteria to grow, explains Anita Tiwari, M.D., an OB/GYN at Meridian Women’s Health."
      rightasrain.uwmedicine.org/well/health/toxic-shock-syndrome-rare-heres-what-tampon-users-should-know

    • @baileywengerherrera6185
      @baileywengerherrera6185 5 лет назад +4

      jennti Maybe i should have said “lower risk” instead of “no risk.”. In the research I have done there has been no evidence to support risk associated with menstrual cups. I believe there was one case in which a woman got TSS after using a cup, but she had been using a tampon previously, which left behind cotton residue where the bacteria grew and caused the toxic shock syndrome. Since there is no residue left behind in the vagina with a cup (since it is silicone), there isn’t much opportunity for bacteria to grow after changing and cleansing it. Again, that’s just the research I have seen.

Oh god, I'm gona do that from now on. How do you, not leak at night with just a towel? Sorry if that's too personal, I always use a tampon but with a towel, laying down, er, it flows in a different direction! Xx

      If you change it every few hours like you're supposed to then you'll be fine. Its when you leave it on for days to go disgusting and congealed and to let off toxins. That's when you'll get toxic shock syndrome. Be hygienic and you'll be fine
