- Bishop WC Martin is an American pastor, author, adoption advocate, and the inspiration for the upcoming Angel Studios film, The Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, releasing in partnership with DailyWire+. As the pastor of Bennett Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Possum Trot, Texas, Bishop Martin and his wife Donna adopted 4 children and persuaded their entire community to do the same. Ultimately, 77 children were adopted into 22 loving families in their small Texas town. In today’s episode, Bishop Martin and I discuss the problems within the current foster care system and the role of the church in successful adoption stories. Bishop Martin also shares personal anecdotes about raising his adopted children and a few behind-the-scenes moments from the making of the movie. Don’t miss this heartening conversation about family and faith on this episode of the Sunday Special.

Thank you Ben Shapiro for allowing this minister to talk and not interrupting and just allowing him to say what was on his heart and what caused him to I guess be a part of this movie which I have not heard about the movie but great interview is my point very very good interview
Man, oh, man! My husband and I have adopted 7 kids from the foster system. EVERYTHING Bishop Martin is saying is spot on. We sadly recently closed our license due to the terrible mistreatment from our workers/the system. We would LOVE to adopt again; right now, we are raw from the behaviors that our kids have and the lack of support. If we had the Possum Trot families' support, I think our lives would be much different. There is so much depth in Bishop Martin's every word. May this movie change the foster care system significantly.
This story is the most Godly thing ive ever seen on this earth.
You have led a very sheltered life, then.
❤
This is a beautiful story. For a long time, I've wondered why Christians don't do this more. I go to a church with a lot of well off comfortable people with stable families. They could do this. I will say though, I grew up in a bad neighborhood. People with money are unaware of a lot of things.
..it is?!
It is amazing how some men make such a difference on this short time on earth .
This man of God is such an inspiration .
As a foster and adoptive mom I feel this so much. He is 100% correct. These kids need us.
I was a foster parent. These kids need so much from someone who can give them love. If you think you can do it
..please look into it.
May God bless you and your family.
I'm a Christian, and the only church that has ever impressed me with it's love was an African American church. I am white, by the way.
“It almost turn my hair black again.” 🤣♥️
This Bishop is such a hero and bless Ben and Angel Studios for sharing his story and message.
I gotta say, the Bishop really hit the nail on the head about foster children and their problems. These poor kids.
Yeah but the problem is the same people who claim everyone should foster or adopt them turn right around and won’t let non Christian heterosexual families adopt. I once did an internship with a Methodist home that took in abused and trouble kids and they constantly stated the most important these kids need is just a loving parent/family. But then when gaycouples or non Christians came, they adamantly refused to let them foster. Didn’t matter how long they were married, how educated they were or how much money they made. You don’t get to sit there and pretend you care about these kids then actively discourage people from trying to foster/adopt. (Not you specifically just people like this who constantly claim everyone should adopt then turn right around and say except for you, you, and you). Christians love to say don’t abort just adopt yet they also say well we don’t want all these people to adopt.
@lawrencetalbot8346 maybe... the gay couples should... idk... not touch and pimp out their adopted children? There's been a trend of that occurring. Which, logically speaking, it would make me wary of gay/non-christian couples as well. I'm not saying you would do that, but there is that air of caution. Lastly, nobody here is saying gay/non-christian couples should adopt. So, your anecdotal testimony is rather insignificant.
@@lawrencetalbot8346Kids need normal people around to grow like normal people.
@reiniergarcia are you not normal if yr not christian?
@@reiniergarcia define normal. Are you saying only Christian’s are normal? I know many who aren’t.
What a wonderful interview and movie. As someone who has worked in Foster Care for 8 years he is spot on with how the State makes it so hard on foster parents who actually want to be parents and pour into these children. I have fought with state, schools, staff over so many of these issues and felt like I was beating my head against a brick wall....ready to give up. But this has rejuvenated me and I know that with God all things are possible and now is not the time to give up on advocating for these children and foster parents who are in this for the right reasons!
This man is special.
This man has faith to move the mountains! Thanks Ben
Bishop Martin just gave one of the best sermons I've ever heard!
Ben, thank you for being such a great interviewer. I know you are Jewish but you didn't make this interview about your religious views vs. Bishop W. C. Martin. You are the ultimate professional! 😊😊❤❤😍😍😍😍

Well, yes. This is the antithesis of that. There are two sides to the coin. Do you feel bigger or superior somehow by choosing to focus on the evil side rather than the good side being discussed? You bringing up evil doesn't diminish the good. It amplifies it.
@@Lucinda_Jackson I worry about what I want to do. Not wanting kids doesn't make me.the bad guy.
@@jackcarraway4707 you don't have to foster if it's too much. You can sponsor thru World Vision or donate backpacks for fosters
@@jackcarraway4707 Nobody saying you're the bad guy, at least you're not having kids and abandoning them.
Meanwhile we also have people who see those abandoned kids - those who were born to this world and have not even the family that borned them to care for them - and say yeah fuck it I'll take them in and I'll raise them better than their birth parents ever could. Now it's one thing to have that f-u attitude when you're well-off and can ostensibly foster a kid to success just to spite their birth parents, it's completely different dynamic when you're also poor as dirt.
The #1 excuse (even for myself) is along the lines of: hell, this kid's going to be worse off with me than with the government. Otherwise I totally would. And Bishop here is saying (and demonstrating) that's not the case. Or at least not the case for Possum Trot.
We need a revival of adopting for the next generation
God bless you Ben and Brother Martin 🤍

I am not a gambler, but if I were, I would bet that the children are being abused in some way, including spiritually.
This man is my hero. I'm in the adoption process.
Good for you! it's a crazy process but the kids are so worth fighting for
G-d bless this man and his wife❤❤
We have adopted a large family internationally and through foster care. It has been the hardest, most worthwhile thing I have ever done. My kids are awesome and giving me beautiful grandbabies. The Bishop and his church were part of the many who inspired me to move forward in this journey. What he says about having a supportive community is so true…not everyone can or should adopt but many people can pray for and encourage adoptive/foster families.
He was SPOT on when he was talking about agencies making it too hard to adopt now. I agree parents need to be heavily vetted. But making it nearly impossible in not the way to go either
Things have gotten much worse now. So many agencies trying to talk families out of adopting because they just assume no one can/should take these kids in. Good caseworkers/socialworker are SOOO needed.
As a Jew now and former Catholic I'm glad Ben brings on other voices from multiple faiths who all have similar values
Also been, I must say this Christian man spoke of Christ quite a bit and you’re open to having him on there which is very gracious. I know you don’t have the same thoughts about Christ but you let him speak on your channel which is I think pretty amazing thank you.
This is wonderful to see. As a Latina, family is very important to us and children aren't discarded. There is always a family member willing yo take in a child. It's a cultural thing. I've always wondered why is it that the largest population in adoption centers are African American children.
I’ve seen this film. It’s worth it. Go watch it. What an incredible community. I pray it changes the world for the better.
OMG!!!!!! I could listen to Bishop 24/7! Every single word he has said is SO inspiring! Love this man!💕🥰.
Can you believe if this became an actual movement and all Churches across America would adopt a few children and literally empty out the Foster system?
I pray He will make it happen!🙏🏻 Would be the coolest thing to have happened in 2000 years
I aged out of the foster care system. I was moved from a series of very religious foster families, including a foster family where the dad was a pastor of a large church and ended up in a group home. Many foster youth do not work in these religious homes and it creates more trauma. Most states require adoptees to consent to adoptions after age 12 and many foster youth simply do not want to be adopted nor want to be placed in very controlling, religious homes. This idea is crazy since it isn't going to actually help foster youth. It's going to add to the trauma experienced when these religious families can't cope with traumatized kids, can't accept kids having different views and disrupt the placement or worse the adoption. There's entire groups for "rehoming" adopted kids. I would have rather died than stay in any of those abusive religious foster homes nor did they want me to stay there.
@@KatTheo431...Religion is Man made and a relationship with our Father-GOD is Faith based. These are 2 completely different systems. Very few people get to experience a Faith based environment ❤
My favorite part of this whole interview is the fact that this awesome guy brings up Jesus Christ, the King, all the time.
Salvation is right in front of you, Ben, take it!
stop shoving your religion down our throats😂
I went to the premiere. It’s an amazing movie!!GO and SUPPORT the film!!! It’s really good!!
I saw the movie and it was great! Unfortunately things in the adoption/foster system have only gotten worse and more corrupt. There needs to be reform within the system and better laws need to be set in place to protect these kids from bad foster families and bad foster agencies. Too many agencies claiming to be "Christian/ non-profit" are financially benefiting from either keeping these kids in the system or charging an insane amount for adoption.
Well said; too many kids fall through the cracks. There are a lot of families willing and able but unfortunately each state has different requirements and sometimes this disqualifies loving families from taking in kids. I personally believe in vaccines; but in some states if you aren’t fully vaccinated they won’t let you foster.
Benjamin, thank you ❤
I love how he credited his wife. Beautiful. ❤
Amazingly beautiful. So simple. Thank you Ben for the message.
Has anyone see the trailer for The Sound of Hope? That had me tearing up. Such a beautiful story. ❤
It's a shame this episode had to be cenceored at all.
On adoption I hope to adopt someday, it seems like a great thing to do.
I've just witnessed the power of God.
This man knows the love of Christ.
Truly a wakeup call. Wonderful. The Bishop is not afraid to proclaim the lord of lords, Jesus Christ❤❤
ha? first of all he is religious leader and second of all who would he be afraid of?
Such a powerful story ! God bless
God bless Bishop Martin. Go beyond yes out of comfort zone.
We are about to finalize our first adoption. It's been a long and challenging road. The state unnecessarily fights against you, not truly thinking about what is best for the child. But the fight is worth it.
It shouldn’t be easier to adopt. It should be harder to have biological kids
That was one of the most inspirational things I have ever heard. Thank you for sharing 💙
This Bishop is correct.

The church I attend in the Upstate of South Carolina has many foster families as members.
One of our pastors has four and just succeeded in adopting two.
We host an annual county wide Christmas Party for the children and their families.
We add new volunteers every year by word of mouth.
It is the most joyful experience of the holidays.
Ben, and Bishop,” THANK YOU “!, for taking the time to have this conversation that America wouldn’t see on mainstream media. I too, have been called to take care of some kids in the foster care system, and as Bishop so well articulated it, I just had to let God be God. It is now 10 years in the making, but during this time, God has been refining me in some areas of my character, and just recently, opened a huge door of opportunity for me to be able to financially care for these kids. Bishop IS spot on! Foster care is the problem of the church! We need to step up, and be HIS HANDS EXTENDED.
Gratitude for this podcast interview. I watched the movie trailer and was so curious about the pastor. I subscribed to this channel too!
The church I went to when I lived in Washington State had several families that not only fostered children but also adopted through foster care, including our Pastors.
This channel is a go-to for information. It's the best!
Thank you for always putting a smile on faces. The content is pure joy.

This man is a real Christian. This is part of what the Church ( not the building or denomination, but believers) are supposed to be doing. Having a community supporting is extremely important! We adopted 4 beautiful children-cross culturally-all grown and thriving. It wasn’t easy but we never looked back.
He worships an idol. I will be interested to know how LG children were treated. Were any children “blanket trained”? Were any given Pearl-style punishments?
This is the nicest thing I’ve seen in a while. God still works through his people.
The man worships idols.

That’s true what Bishop Martin says. My husband and I entered a temporary foster parent program and all the hoops and training that we had to go through was a lot. I understand the state is doing everything they can to protect the children but I believe our process has unmotivated other families who might be thinking of joining.
That was 🔥🔥🔥. Praise God!!

Yes, thank you been taught you were very gracious and having this man speak, and this is very meaningful and very important and all I can say is thank you
The DW+ version is just over 41 minutes, so maybe a minute and a half or so was censored. The onlyh thing I heard that I would think Big Tech would censor, is the Pastor said He stole Watermelons from a Patch when He was a Kid < that was maybe 2 seconds.
I say that without watching this RUclips Video - maybe they don't censor "Watermelon". For the life of Me, I didn't hear anything remotely offensive to anyone.
Blessed be them for really doing Jesus work. I have two very sick family members that I have been taking care of for decades, it so happens that today’s church doesn’t really cares much unless you are up and mobile. For years my husband and I served at a local church but we hardly ever got people loving on these two relatives that we take care of. Nope everyone wants to sing, sell records, be popular, be on social media. Ridiculous what the church has become. Is a place for those who want to be popular.
In spite this reality we continue to love these relatives and serving our local church. Thank you Mr Shapiro for getting this out
"Prayer still works"
My wife is a Social Worker and you’d be surprised how many 12 year old alcoholics there are. May we pray for these children.
I am not surprised. I went to a Jesus-worship school, and most of the children were abused.
Successful adoption is like successful marriage. You don’t “try” it, you commit and do it for the rest of your life. Adopting a child, even a very young one under three is challenging and full of unexpected pitfalls of unknown physical, psychological, and sexual abuse. Know the child has tremendous focus and motivation to bend their new environment into what they view as “normal” because that deviant behavior is all they have ever known and change, even for their good, is painful.
One major hurdle to placing children in adopting homes is the self interest of the huge bureaucracy of child protective services. The more children they have in the services, the more secure their jobs, more secure their jobs the more children are kept in limbo of “unavailable for adoption”. The longer a child is in the system the more likely he is to be abused and develop attachment disorders.
A remarkable purpose. 🙏
Preach it Brother!!!
Best video I've watched. Ever.
Yes, this man was certainly preaching the gospel! Bev really is kind of amazing to let him do that I think wow
This is totally what I have been saying for many years, foster children elderly or homeless person. The govt pays, ppl just use resources wisely.

So good!❤
As we all know, the Church and children go great together . . .
That’s all you can point out. You can’t praise people doing good. You gotta see what some you can throw. The lowest people are those pedophiles, but only one step up at people who can’t acknowledge the good people in church who are changing and saving lives. Disgusting.
Thanks!

Wish we could but in Michigan all bio kids in the house are required to have ALL vaccinati0ns before a foster child is allowed in the home. Many families will choose not to foster because of the ridiculous regulations. 😢
Vaccinations are good
Not vaccinating your kids is bad. Not only for the kids, but for everyone else around them
Ugh that's so annoying + ridiculous they would require something like that! ☹️ What a shame for those who would otherwise foster! I don't trust all the crazy amounts of vaCcines today either..
