Emily Rodda, rowan of rin all 14 deltora quest , the one with the music box um the key to rondo, the 3 doors trilogy, the tv show with the clock that froze time, game!!!!! 😳😳😃😃😃😃 rowan of rin was my favourite, the way that tied together at the end made me cry, so did deltora quest, I couldn't read the first Harry potter, but..one I seen the first movie and had the people and settings in my head, the readers of the books got the extra scenes where so exiting, the movies could never live up to... I throw shade on them, get a life you losers!!!!!! I'm so proud of you, Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 thank you 🤗💞💞💞💞💞💞😃🦘🐨👍.

You should look up Joseph Delaney's Spook's series. Was a staple of Scholastic fairs in Northwest England, the books were set in that region too. Ripped through the series and have them signed by the author. Was apparently popular enough to get a film adaptation with Jeff Bridges and Kit Harrington, but I've only just found out. No idea how bad the film is, but the books were fantastic

I always appreciated the overwhelming sense of dread and gloom, which was unfortunately missing from the anime.
I especially liked the epiphany Lief has in the final book about the Shadow Lord. We've spent over a dozen books and never even met him in person. And that's because he stopped being a person centuries ago.
The Shadow Lord isn't some evil wizard plotting from a distant tower. He isn't a monster you can defeat and everyone will live happily ever after. He's a force of nature. He's a perpetual motion engine of hate and evil. He will never stop. He will never die. He will always threaten Deltora. And one day he WILL succeed.

(I like the details about the arena and how the way the enemys servant are maid). Well, the door of dearth in the 3rd series is also great. Right now - I have started reading the first series about the belt. Did I mention I am: 40+... I also love Harry Potter and red all the books.

It holds up surprisingly well and especially because you half forget the twists like the Rakacha and then you re-experience the twists with an additional shot of nostalgia.
This series is like taking every cliché in fantasy and elevating them to their most perfect form. Like an Olympic level diver performing a simple shallow dive off of the edge of a pool with flawless skill. The story is filled of the most simple elements, but executed flawlessly.

I had this on my Watch Later for so long that I legitimately forgot about it until I set my playlist on shuffle and this popped up. Literally went "since when did i have a video about deltora quest in my watch later??" - but make no mistake, this was a pleasant surprise! The book series was how I got into reading, and the anime was how I got into art (bless the character designers for making Lief incredibly attractive to my nine year old self 😂) I consider myself a big DQ nerd (or used to be, I spent a lot of time just googling random Deltora things back in the day lol) and somehow still managed to learn a bit through this video. It was really nice to have this bit of nostalgia, especially in a form so well-produced and well-written :) kudos!

I came to the US when i was very young and these were one of the first book series to really make an impact on me. I now am in college and still have all these Deltora quest posters around my room. I love your video even though im late to the party. and just subscribed. What i love is how there are crazy plot twists and Emily Rodda makes all the clues make sense! Lief, Barda, and Jasmine feel like my friends and the worlds lore has deep meaning unlike so many kids books especially this size. I still remember when i could barely read and thought Barda's name was Branda haha I also thought Jasmine's name was pronounced Jas-Mine haha

Cool video! I liked Deltora Quest as a kid too and have been intending to re-read it. I didn't find it to be particularly dark though, especially compared to other things kids were into at the time (like Harry Potter and Star Wars). Leif is an extremely optimistic and morally good character (especially in the first series), which significantly decreases the "darkness" of anything imo, but that's a good thing in my opinion. Young boys should have positive role modals and I don't think things have to be dark to be good.

  • @Toshiro93
    @Toshiro93 5 месяцев назад

One of the characteristics that I consider the most successful of Deltora Quest (at least, in the first series of books) lies in the fact that the narrative structure, although aimed at a young audience, did not disdain more...mature passages, let's say. I think of the trap of Jin and Jod, disguised as harmless old men; or how badly two gray guards are dealing with desert insects; or, again, to the significant deaths that occur throughout all 8 books.
An aspect that, especially in the second series, was implemented towards more body-horror/invasion of the body snatchers components, which, if they scared me a little as a child, as I grew up I came to appreciate them more. The second series also has, as an advantage (at least, for me) the fact that it takes place both in a "marine" setting and in the shadow lands, in order to provide readers with an overview of what the world inhabited by villain of the series.
The third series, despite having appreciated it for the presence of creatures such as dragons, I found that, already at the time (around 2003-2004) it began to recycle some concepts taken from the two previous series: it must be said that, in the third series, the protagonists seem to be put aside a bit compared to Doran and the dragons themselves.
Ultimately, the first series is certainly more "simple", but it is also the most balanced of the Deltora trilogy, in its fantasy, "horror" and children's novel aspects, not without some humorous elements here and there.

The Three Doors is a spin-off series that mentions the same lore as the first three Deltora series, yes. There are, however, 2 more series of books. There is the Rowan of Rin series and Star of Deltora. Star of Deltora is a recent sequel to the original 3 trilogies and it explicitly references the lore in Rowan of Rin. While Rowan of Rin was always meant to be the same universe, the Star of Deltora series made it undeniably connected.

Hey Julia! The great thing about Deltora Quest is they're pretty enjoyable at most ages, although I think they are geared primarily towards kids around 10 years old or so. The writing is pretty easy to read for younger kids too, so I guess it comes down to whether you're okay with sword fighting etc. (there's VERY minimal blood etc.)

Alright, let me lead by saying that I just burned through the whole series in a few days, so I was thrilled to see this pop up in my feed. With that out of the way, where the *fuck* did you get that map at 5:44? That thing is making me irrationally angry.

@@Cam_Wolfe Like, the plains aren't even touching Del, the Shadowlands are to the west, the Mere has somehow been sandwiched between Tora and the Plains... This thing is going to give me an aneurism.

One thing about the aanime is that it cut out the diverse and interesting cultures of deltora and made all the places and people all look generic

I think I still have the original individual books in storage somewhere…
Also-this is a nitpick, but it still sticks out to me-I swear the series (and Rowan of Rin, from what little I remember of that) avoided grammatical contractions whenever possible (eg. it would always use "do not" instead of "don't", "will not" instead of "won't", and so on).

Greetings from Italy, i read Deltora Quest (here named as Il magico mondo di Deltora) around the 2000's, when i was 7-9 years old, and i loved it.
My first introduction to fantasy as a genre and an inspiration for building stories and characters.
If there's one thing that i "dislike" of Deltora Quest...is the lack of illustrations about the three main characters. But i dont know if this is a fault of italian version: maybe the english one have images of Lief, Barda and Jasmine.
At side that, my personal favorite aspect of those books was the horror tone of almost every boss, the guardians of the stones.

Fantastic video mate. Great summation of the many good (and couple mediocre) things about this series.
This is one of the few instances of judging a book by its cover being a good thing. As a kid I was a bibliophobe but this series changed that. While it's not perfectly written, the world is awesome. In particular the monsters. The Sandbeasts, the Vraal, the Valley guardian (in particular the four creatures he keeps as "pets") the Wennbar and the Fear all stand out to me. Add to that the way the Grey Guards are created and the sometimes quite dark/gruesome themes, Deltora Quest is easily able to fit into a more adult fantasy world. In fact now that I'm in my thirties, I wish that a more grown up story would be made in this world. This series primed me for Lord of the Rings (unfortunately movies only. I'm going to try again I promise), Elder Scrolls and the Cthulhu mythos. These books really deserve more hype

I first stumbled upon Deltora Quest in my middle school library. Like you said in the beginning of your video, the artwork caught my attention. I can't remember which book it was, but the story of it perked my interest. Eventually, I got the complete set. Further into the future, I have all three of the Deltora series. It's still one of my favorite book series of all time.

I thought I was the only one! I sadly didn’t get to read the mainline books but I did have this huge Deltora world guidebook. I was young and impressionable and actually thought that Deltora existed because of how it was written like a first person account of legitimate events. I wish I had that innocent naivety still. Thanks for this video!
