I would have never thought a battery/inverter combination could handle that much demand. That’s going to be the most comfortable off-road RV I’ve ever seen. Great work.
Nice stuff, meaby install few solar panels on the roof to charge up battery for free. Good solar charge controller can charge battery same time while you use power in the camper.
Great install Steve. This really does offer overnight camping where you want electricity but cannot run a generator, or even if you can, you shouldn't because it is just poor form to run a generator overnight. Please do show us the final install when you can.
Interesting design, as to where you're going with it. Fairly clean layout, with contingencies, Nice. Surprised the potential output of that RoyPow, tho that what its designed for. Interested on the longevity of the unit, sure hope you can give an update after some extended use. Thanx !
These types of batteries have a battery management system that will turn them off when the get down to a voltage that would harm the cells inside. When charging they keep the cells balanced. In theory the battery should last a lot longer than typical batteries.
Brilliant Steve, I really enjoy the technical side of these videos even though camping is no longer my thing. Thank you for shareing this. I am curious now as to how you will cool this set up. 👍👍
I have some clue what you are attempting but I don’t want a written test on it! I do wonder how many people with camper vans would be capable of installing that battery. A small percentage would be my guess. And by the time you have added an inverter to the mix;even less! It’s a lot easier,in my case,to follow your hunt the mouse nest videos!
Might think about adding a fuse or breaker for that charge lead. It would smoke pretty good if it was shorted and waiting for the 30A breaker to trip on the shore power feed.
Doesn't the transfer switch sense that shore power is available and disconnect from the inverter, to save your battery? Similar to a whole house back-up generator.
That is not how motorhomes are wired. The thinking is why would you have your inverter or generator on if you were connected to shore power. The benefit of this setup is that you could shore power from a 15 amp plug which would run your charger only and you could turn on the inverter and run a device that would overpower a 15 amp plug.
Most of the camper runs on 12V and my truck runs on 24v so I will be leaving the 12v and 24v solar setups in place because that is what will get the most use. If I decide I need to charge the roypow on solar I will either add new panels for 36v or install an inverter that runs the charge off the 12v panel.
Very cool setup Steve. Good explanation as these types of systems don't need to be overly complicated. Do you plan on adding solar into the equation? Looks very doable.
I already have solar for the 12v and 24v batteries on this vehicle, I am running out of roof space and I’m not sure I have the room to get a 36v solar setup. I have been toying with a 12v to 36v converter off the 12v solar panel.
I haven't added up everything but the links to most of what I used are in the description so you can see what they cost where you live. You would probably want to talk to your local distributor for the battery as I did not find what looked like a reliable online source.

Steve Awesome DIY video of the Rpod fuse / breaker transfer box installation 🙏🏻 thank you

Keep em comin, always interesting videos from you

great stuff thanks
Might think about adding a fuse or breaker for that charge lead. It would smoke pretty good if it was shorted and waiting for the 30A breaker to trip on the shore power feed.
That could easily be done by using a power strip with a circuit breaker built in.
Doesn't the transfer switch sense that shore power is available and disconnect from the inverter, to save your battery? Similar to a whole house back-up generator.

Any plans to modify your solar set up to charge the roypow?

How much was that unit cost ? what a great way to power up an RV
