    I have had an ena 8 for 4 years, despite careful compliance with the cleaning required for the first 2 years the machine has returned twice ... broken down .. the 3rd year again broke down given the price of the repair I completely disassembled the mechanical part of the machine: totally dirty.. I cleaned it, changed the seals.. it has been working well for over a year! but never rained from Jura!

    Hey . Does the power cable come out from the back of the machine?
    The machine is 44.5cm deep, my counter top is 45cm. If there's a big chunk of cable protruding out on the backside of the machine I'm out of luck.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 года назад

      Hi SG, The power cable does come out of the back. It is flexible and does not have a bulky connector plugging into the back. You'll need about 1.5cm of clearance for the flexible cable. The feet of the machine do not extend to the front edge of the drip tray so if you're okay with a 1 cm or so of drip tray overhanging the front edge of your counter you may be in luck!

    hi, Marc, I enjoyed the ENA8 very much, but it's said I need to change the filter. it's out of stock everywhere. Can I use filtered water instead of using the Jura filter? Thanks

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 года назад

      Hi Wonder, Yes you can use the machine without the in reservoir smart filter. The machine will know you are not using one and alert you to descale as needed. You will need to test the hardness of water you use and enter that info into the machine. If using water from another filter like a filtering pitcher or tap mounted be aware most do nothing to treat/reduce minerals so they do not reduce the water hardness like the in reservoir smart filter.

    I'm struggling between the Jura Ena 8 and the Gaggia Babila...The milk carafe cleaning process seems a lot easier on the Babila and also seems to have less plastic on the Babila as well. So the question is, is the coffee leaps and bounds better on the Jura? Cause I am leaning towards the Babila but just curious how much better the coffee is on the Jura before making my decision...any help/thoughts would be much appreciated!! Thanks :)

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 года назад

      Hi Clayton, Thanks for the question. A key feature of the Babila is the flow control on the coffee spouts. It allows one to fine tune a brew by restricting the flow when making espresso and increasing the flow rate when making larger cups of coffee. It also has more coffee grind settings to better fine tune flavor. The ENA 8 uses pulse extraction process PEP when making espresso which slows down brewing and turns that off when making larger cups. Babila has capabilities to make a better cup if one uses the grind size and flow rate to adjust. ENA 8 accomplishes something similar with PEP/non-PEP brewing but it's not as controllable. Both machines have plastic used in construction but the Babila has metal where it counts and overall is more robust. Hope that helps!

      Hi g, the 10g max dose per grind cycle is about what you'll get from most automatic machines regardless of manufacturer. It's in the upper dose range of singles made on semi-automatic (portafilter) machines. For reference, a traditional Italian single dose is 7g.

    Thank you Marc. I just bought a Jura ENA 8 and liked it. I have a question: it's easy to clean the milk system on your video, but the instruction book said " The dual spout must be dismantled and rinsed daily". I didn't see that part on your video. Do I have to do that daily if I already clean the milk system daily?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 года назад +1

      Hi W, You are welcome and happy to hear you are liking the ENA 8. Frothing performance can decline if milk residues accumulate in the frothing components. So long as you do normal rinsing and cleaning using the cleaning product when done making milk drinks for the day taking it apart daily should not be necessary. I'm guessing some users are a little lax in the easy cleaning so Jura includes language like that in the manual.

    I'm considering this vs the Jura E8. I'm not that picky towards black coffee, but I am towards Latte/Caffé Macchiato. I had a JURA ENA Micro 9 One Touch that I loved, but it broke. I replaced it with a SIEMENS EQ9 but their milk froth is very disappointing. So, recommend Ena 8 or E8?

      Hi N-K M, Thanks for the question. If you liked your ENA Micro 9 I'm guessing you'll like the ENA 8 as well. I happen to use a ENA Micro 90 at home. With the E8 you get higher capacities for beans, water, etc. Also can adjust milk froth on the E8 from more of a steamed milk to a froth. If using in a lower volume situation or counter space is a concern I'd go with the ENA 8. We have a very nice at-home review of the ENA 8 which may give you more insight on froth quality and daily use considerations of the ENA 8: ruclips.net/video/RG54xUGxPFo/видео.html

    Just received my Ena 8 (after watching this presentation) and having my first cappuccino. It was pretty easy to set up. Know I just have
    to adjust settings to my taste.
    I noticed there is no program for a regular latte. Any advice how I can get that out of it?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 года назад +10

      Hi sami, Thanks for sharing your experience and the question. A lot of these types of machines do not have a specific "latte" setting. Reason is that would confuse Italian users. In Italian "latte" translates to "milk". Instead of latte they will make a latte macchiato. A few machines get the name correct by calling it a caffe latte. Anyway, very easy to get what we here in the US call a latte which in typical preparation uses a 1:5 ratio of espresso to milk. 2 ways you can do it. First way, make a latte macchiato. This will prep the milk first then brew espresso over the top. You'll end up with a layer of espresso in between 2 different milk densities. Once made just stir gently to combine the espresso in the middle with the bottom milk layer. Second way (and the one I like best) is to use the flat white as the base. This will make espresso first then froth the milk over the top just like a barista would do. No stirring needed but you may want to reprogram the drink to taste as the flat white preset is probably set at about a 1:2 espresso to milk ratio. Hope that helps and my apologies for a delayed response - I took a long and disconnected weekend.

    Hi Marc, Uisng ENA 8. Great machine and good coffee. I am using RO water which is like filtered water both for the water tank and also while performing the milk rinsing system. Would you recommend it or shall I use fresh tap water? I am in New Delhi and the tap water is not suitable for drinking. Also I use the Claris smart filter with it so no need to descale since the machine has not promoted to. Also when I clean the milk system, there is not as much foam as we see in the video and when I add water for final clean, the water doesn't come out consistently, there is lot of noise. Pls suggest what could b wrong . Thanks Manish

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 года назад +2

      Hi Manish, Thanks sharing your opinion on the ENA 8. And thank you for your question and providing so much detail to aid in my response!
      I strongly recommend against using pure zero TDS RO water in any machine. I am very familiar with RO water treatment. My tap water is fine but I use one to make base water for my salt water reef aquariums. Starting with pure RO water as a base for salt mix helps to prevent algae growth. So why not use super pure water in your machine? Water is a very good solvent. Ultra-pure RO or distilled water is an even better solvent. So good it will pull ions from metal components and cause corrosion over time. I'm guessing your RO system uses all plastic components? I've never seen one which does not. Also, ultra-pure water with no mineral content will over-extract coffee causing bitter flavors.
      RO systems are widely used in commercial beverage service applications to prevent scale and support good flavor. In those applications RO water is always re-mineralized. This can be done by bypassing some water around the RO and adding it back or by using measured additives. Additives may sound daunting but it's quite easy and can be done using cheap baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) for alkalinity and Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) for hardness. Here's my video on how to make your own additives: ruclips.net/video/iHI7jC0sQZo/видео.html
      If you go the additive route continue to use the in reservoir filter and you should never have to descale your machine. Use the filter in any current Jura as recommended and you will never have to descale.
      As to the cleaning of frothing components. I'm guessing you are seeing less foaming of the milk cleaning solution because you are adding to ultra-pure water which limits surface tension and bubble creation. Some noise on final milk system rinse is normal. But it might also indicate hard milk residue in the frothing components. Beyond the automatic cleaning cycles it's a good idea to take the frothing components apart for a deeper hand cleaning on a regular basis.
      I hope this information helps!
      Marc

    • @mgulati8798
      @mgulati8798 4 года назад

      @@Wholelattelovepage Thanks for spending time on my query and the detailed explanation. It definitely helps. I always knew that RO reduces the minerals and the TDS level goes to pretty much zero. It sometimes is not good even to drink as we are not getting the required minerals. Yes RO systems have plastic components. You have a valid point that they might be taking out the metal components and cause corrosion. There might be scaling inside and that's causing the water spitting and spluttering noises during the cleaning process. Also yes, there will be less froth due to highly pure water.
      What I plan to do now is to descale it once with the Jura tablets and start using fresh tap water and set the TDS accordingly. Since I am using the Jura Claris, it would anyways not ask me to descale in the future. I guess this would stop the spitting and spluttering water sound during cleaning. Also when it says in the manual to use fresh cold water for the tank...does the water needs to be cold or regular tap water ar room temp is fine??
      I appreciate the help Marc.

    Why does Jura do milk volume volume in secs? Most coffee recipes tell you the portion of coffee to milk ratio in terms of volume. Wouldn't it be easier in volume?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 года назад +1

      Hi DG, That's a great question. Timing the milk in seconds is fairly common although I use some newer Gaggia machines like the Cadorna which does use liquid volume in either ml or oz. When frothing milk there are a bunch of variables which factor into how much volume you'll end up with. When frothed in machines like this milk expands due air added during the frothing process. But, different milk types expand/stretch to different volumes so Jura's reasoning to use timing is not having customers say I programmed for 120ml of milk froth but got 100ml. Customers might think something is wrong with the machine or it's innacurate.

      Hey Nyc E, Thanks for the comment and question. In my experience well water is all over the place as far as quality. Some is not bad but I've run into well water which is very hard and has other issues like sulfur odor. IMO if your well water is safe for human consumption, not categorized as extra hard and doesn't have odd issues it should work in Jura machines without issue. I strongly suggest using the Jura in reservoir Smart Filter to protect the machine.
      Also... If you have not seen it check out our ENA 8 in home review. It'll give you a better idea of what it's like to use the machine on a daily basis: ruclips.net/video/RG54xUGxPFo/видео.html

    Can you make a comparison between ENA 8 and E8 which is better for home use

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 года назад +4

      Hi Mohammed, before the ENA 8 I had an E8 at home, so I can certainly compare. In my opinion, the ENA 8 wins in looks and style over the E8. I like being able to customize all parameters of drinks with a press-and-hold (vs. having to go into the menu in the E8). I also prefer the grouping of espresso/milk/hot water spouts on the ENA 8 because I never have to move my cup when preparing any drinks. The ENA 8 is also slightly smaller, which I prefer since I'm limited on counter space.
      The E8 wins in capacity - not only a larger water tank, bean hopper, and dreg drawer, but the dual spouts give you the option for two espresso drinks at once (by double-pressing espresso/ristretto/coffee). If you're making a high volume of drinks at home, the E8 may be the best choice. I also like that the E8 gives you two options for milk foam, instead of just the one on the ENA 8.
      Overall, they both have their advantages and which is "better" depends largely on your living and drinking circumstances.

    Great review of the machine...you guys are great! I'm looking into upgrading to a Jura machine from my deLonghi Perfecta...they look amazing. But I'm worried about having the patience to "clean" the milk system for 5 minutes after every daily use. My current deLonghi machine has a "milk rinse" feature that takes 10 seconds after making milk-based coffees. If I'm being honest with myself... I already see myself cheating to save time. Any lazy users out there that spread out the milk cleaning process (without sacrificing hygiene)?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 года назад +4

      Hi Johnny, I understand the concerns but Jura makes it pretty painless. This morning I timed myself doing the full milk clean - 2 minutes, 30 seconds, with only one swap for fresh water in the middle. This daily clean is definitely the right way to do it, but there are a couple failsafes to ensure sanitation. 15 minutes after a milk drink is prepared, the machine will rinse the milk system. Additionally, when turning off the machine it will automatically rinse the coffee and/or milk system (whichever was used). Note that these aren't full cleans and won't run water through the milk tube, but I've found myself relying on them when in a hurry, knowing I can do the full clean later.

      Jura's cleaner has a protein break down to clean all the milk out of the frother. You do not have to use it all the time if you rinse your frother and hose after you make a milk drink.

    I own the E8 and can say that it was a very very bad decision. He wants one cleaningtablet every 10 days, descaling with 3 tablet every 14 days (they're so expensive) Daily milk system cleaning very annoying. And on top of that comes the daily cleaning and disassembling of the water bowl and milk system. We're using 4-5 coffee a day and 1-2 milk coffee in evening.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 года назад +2

      Hi F., are you using a Jura Clearyl Smart filter in your E8? If so, you shouldn't have to descale at all. That may save you some money and frustration. As for the milk hose, it depends on the machine and milk glass you're using. The older model of the E8 has a little clip for the hose on the fine foam frother. If you're using a Jura milk container, I'd recommend tying the milk tube into itself and leaving it attached to the milk container. If you have the E8 G2 and are using a normal glass, you could either leave the milk tube dangling from the machine or just detach it and put it aside (as long as it's clean before storing).

      Different strokes for different folks. Super-automatic machines generally appeal to a different user than semi-auto's - those who are searching for convenience and ease of use/maintenance. They want great beverages, but may not have the time or desire to delve into the nuances and skills required for a semi-automatic machine.

      Time, convenience, and consistency. A superauto will never rival my best shots when I had a more conventional coffee-shop style setup. On the other hand, it will never make a bad shot like I sometimes would when I was sleepy or in a huge hurry. I get good, but not great, coffee every time I push the button.
      If your daily routine leaves you a ton of time to be your own barista, you should go old school. But for those of us with more hectic lives, the supeautomatic makes sense, especially in my house where we have four coffee drinkers with very different tastes.
