What infuriates me about Thailand is the 12 hours long flight that gets me there... The rest is OK!
Love this!!!!
12? Hell, that's easy! Minimum 22 from US. And can't get back soon enough!
What infuriates me about Thailand isn't Thailand - it is the judgement and comments from people in the west who ignore the amazing culture, food, people, and adventure.
100%. I get the bombastic side eye when i say i live in thailand even though i havent even got a massage done here before
-Weak passport
-Mandatory military service
-Not the cleanest tap water
Well said
Agree, but last place to find culture is Pattaya. The Thais even hate it apart the Instagram resto’s over Pratamanak / Jomtien…and that ain’t culture.
The visa situation is a major obstacle if not downright infuriating.
Read the news Please.
Still better than Australia! PS your channel is getting even better mate . Great work
I love that Singha soda water 😂
Top Top TOP Video friend! Very touched to hear you mention us and how we connected. Excited to get back and hang out with you and Lele again very soon! Keep up the hard work and it looks to be paying off! 10K subs just around the corner!
love ya vids mate.. 8 most positive things about thailand vid next mate.. positivity 🤙🏻
I’m with you buddy.
I agree with Kei's about the sidewalks in bkk you can have motorbikes coming at you from all directions never mind the holes and unlevel surfaces.
Mine has nothing to do with Thailand but it’s my first experience living in a condo in Thailand and elevator traffic drives me crazy! I know road rage is a thing, i think I could have elevator rage especially during high season!
Great video as always……and excellent topic 😊 Thanks for sharing:)
I think a LOT of these pet peeves would disappear if one was not living in Pattaya. Not much good comes out of Pattaya imo.
Lived there for a year (dark side) and pop down to see mates for a game of golf and a beer and glad when I leave. Without doubt attracts the worst type of tourist Bangkok has to offer.
Never understood why it’s desirable to live on a beach that has visible sewer pumping into it that is hazardous to swim in.
Avoid and your peeves will disappear😊
nice to have you back Gabi. We have missed you.
Excellent video. I see my building was in your background. 555. But I'm not infuriated about anything about Thailand. I think of all the problems we have back in Canada, and this is Paradise. The Sunday night was absolutely awesome Long Beach . met new friends , and it was amazing. Great to see Thai people having such great time on the weekend. Keep up the great videos. Maybe I'll see you before I leave back to Canada.
Another great video.very well put together and edited.top notch 👍🏼👍🏼for me it’s the driving in thailand 🇹🇭 I feel invisible sometimes 😂 but love the country 👍🏼
Another absolutely top solid video my man 🔥
Thanks killer
God I miss Canadian beef 🥩 😂
🤣
Great video sam very good points, i agree with what the first guy said 😅👍
another great production brother, well done ! safe journey
Thank you my friend
great video,
I have a few
#1 It is not very disability friendly, Footpaths..yes they are awful.
#2 Tourists and newly arrived expats bringing their home country problems and solutions to Thailand.
#3 Your English friend touched on it, but the perception that the woman you are with can only have come from a bar or is being paid by the hour...
#4 My main one and maybe I should have done this in order but, people being disrespectful to Thai people because they have more money then them, tourists over here ( two week millionaires) behaving in way that they wouldn't' dream of in their home countries. just because you may earn more them, no excuse to rude or a douche
100% on the beef (and lamb :))
Tops market have beef?
Cool video Sam! 👍
Thank you mate 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Had to laugh...good ol Keis does get on about the sidewalks. But....he does have a point.
555 I’ve had the same problem. Going to Pattaya for the weekend from Bangkok with the missus and every Farang thinks she’s on the game 😂😅
A very interesting insight into living in Thailand. Very similar to my time working in China
What annoys me is when farang introduce or talk about their girlfriend or wife. They say my Thai wife or my Thai girlfriend. Like if u were living in Australia or anywhere for that matter u wouldn't say this is my Australian wife or this is my Spanish girlfriend or my American wife. I have a girlfriend in Thailand over 5 years now. Yes she is Thai but who cares. She is just my girlfriend or my wife if that happens.
I only do it when relating a story involving an experience in Thailand , and only then to add context.
Mine would be the hawkers trying to sell you stuff, like I get they are just trying to irk a living but sometimes it really gets annoying. Cheers mate,
🙂
Gotta agree with Keis. Took an awkward stumble around Soi 6 and looked like I needed to be on a leash.
Top video, thank you
Cheers legend
I just noticed the travel insurance you use but nobody ever has any for people over 70 so it would be nice to know if there is such a thing or even government health insurance in Thailand.
Top video bro 😊
Cheers homie 🍻
Visa Runs--especially when the country you have in mind is "closed"! Living in Chiang Mai, I've been through this before trying to get from Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province across the bridge into Tachilek, Burma only to find the Burmese have "closed" the border for a vast variety of reasons! Much easier to simply fly to Bangkok and then into Phnom Penh! 🙂
Nothing infuriates me in Thailand except when i run out of weed ... but thats anywhere ...lol
Every time you eat, it’s a gamble if your gunna get sick. It can be street food, a restaurant… any thing.
Great Vid mate.My infuriating thing is, I get there then I've gotta go home.
Love it!
😂 I’m the same after 6 years here in Japan I always tell westerners that have been here for a year , let’s see if your around in a year and we’ll catch up, too commonly you make friends here and they don’t last more then 1-2 years , it is what it is and I’ve become a little more wiser to investing my heart and emotions into people that I would never do back home but here unfortunately it’s a big one.
Kies is just pissed off because he cant play on his skateboard as much
Yep, and he does a lot of walking. Poles in the middle of the sidewalk gets annoying
Gday from down Under!
What’s with the adidas kicks? Bring back the 90’s!
I miss Gyros sooo much. lol Anyway, for me, one the most infuriating aspects of living in Thailand is RUclipsrs or "Social Influencers" spreading misinformation about what's it's really like to live in Thailand, especially misinformation about Thai people. Also, I would agree regarding all the points mentioned, but I would add the lack of traffic control at busy intersections, gentrification over renovation, or while at the beach, being constantly asked if I want to buy something,
I'm surprised communication didn't come up. I live in Japan. It's very frustrating trying to communicate at banks, doctors, dentists, etc. But immigration is not a problem in terms of communication.
I’ve lived in Pattaya 8 years.
Saving face , is the biggest problem that I have faced, with Thai people..
Me too
Love your videos mate. Are you making money on the 9000 subs you got
Yeah mate! Making about $800US a month now! So $200 a week haha
@@GoneAdrift Better than nothing. Hope you will grow bigger, so you can make a living from it. i know its very time demanding work. I would love to do the same, but probaly to much competition haha
Brilliant video mate, your channel is awesome! The number one worst thing for me is the grumpy farang guys, their coming in all ages now, not just the oldies 😂 You can pay by card at 7/11, just needs to be over 200 baht, usually I’d buy 2 big Leo’s, I make the sacrifice and buy 4 🍻🍻🍻
Thanks mate! Take care
When ya coming down to Phuket 😂🏖️🍻me boy
Cant believe nobody said Visa issues or getting Vegemite
Vegemite is easy, Villa Market or Foodland. Chicken Salt is impossible....
Vegemite, is easily bought in most Pattaya supermarkets
The beef thing is interesting.
As an American I probably never considered that because beef is so ingrained into our diet here.
Good job Sam, well done. I love the channel and the great variety of content that you put out. Keep it going mate.
That was interesting and not one mention of traffic rubbish humidity or language ha ha.
True 7:11s don't take debit cards (I have a KTB Account) but they can break that B$1000 note. Also, saving face means people may have no clue but they will still offer to give you directions as if they know.
I live there my self and it’s the best
Getting poked in the back off hawkers every 3 seconds
Honestly one of my biggest criticisms would be that as a foreigner you really can't criticise, or at least if you live there and you're smart you won't.
The climate towards foreigners at the moment, especially in the wake of a handful of (admittedly absolutely awful) incidents involving them which have sparked national debate.
The Thai government in its complex and ever changing visa laws hss made its ambivalence at best towards foreigners pretty clear.
And so Keis having racked his brain for any possible issues in utopia says "sidewalks." Then we have access to fresh not frozen beef etc etc.🙄
Anyway here are mine - real ones - as someone who lived in Thailand for 6 years, loved it and still does, but no longer lives there so can be honest.
1. Air pollution. Its a major major problem, and not just for a few months on chiang mai or in central Bangkok. The air quality across the country for large chunks of the year is dire. If you're moving there with young kids or have asthma etc then think hard about it.
2. Noise. Its incessant. In the countryside in the middle of nowhere you'll still find that when your neighbours drink - and they do a lot - the speakers get turned up to infinity. Add in roosters, farm machinery, muffler less bikes etc and it ain't that peaceful even in rural areas. In Bangkok its obviously loud 24/7.
3. Having no real rights.
As someone who ultimate settled in Hong Kong I was able to get permanent residency after 7 years of continuous living here. That means I'm now a local for all intents and purposes. So I have access to our excellent free healthcare system, local schools free for my kids and uni tuition fees here are low for a pretty local ( like me now) 4k GBP a year.
I can vote, if I commit a serious crime or go to jail ( im not planning to) I can't be deported.
I have rights in short.
So no visa issues in perpetuity, no double pricing, no foreigner gouging. If something goes wrong we have all sorts of ombudsman and ultimately the courts are common law like UK.
In Thailand there's none of that as en expat, even if you spend 50 years there you're still an outsider.
Oh and sidewalks, I mustn't forget that critical element 😉
Thanks for sharing.
Obviously these types of videos are a necessary evil to gain audience.
The core content on this channel is a celebration of every day life here 🙏🏻
You have rights....in Hong Kong? Really?
@@dietmarbirkmann55 Yes. I outlined them above and obvious I wouldn't have those in Thailand. I guess your comment is about what's happened in the wake of the 2019 protests with the National Security Law, but if you lived here through the protests you'd understand it's a complicated thing and many families here are actually divided on it.
Regardless, out with local politics I feel like the important aspects of citizenship I have here, again I mentioned them all above.
And it's not as if in Thailand I'd have more freedoms if I was overly political. I mean a young woman in Thailand was given 15 years in prison for a Facebook post critical of the monarchy, others have gotten much longer sentences so you do have to kind of accept local conditions if you settle abroad.
@@willsmith39 Hi. Yes understand that Thailand is far from perfect in regards to individual freedoms etc. Anyway, let's not hijack poor Sammy's channel for political discussions lol
Nothing infuriates me in pattaya "THE LAND A SMILES" but what I hate is the last night I gotta go home the next day. Can't wait get back in august
when you go to get a beer in 7/11 and your not allowed to because its the afternoon
visas
heat and pollution
everything else is great
Mine is the trash not picked up... i dont get it.. and i totally agree with keis...
Not being able to move over there yet 😂
Great Points - Maybe do same type of video asking Thais what make's them angry about foreigners ?
Love it!!!!!!!!
Very interesting video on pet peeves. Liked this a lot.
👍🏼🍻🇦🇺
Know body mentioned rubbish everywhere no bins and the Thais don't seem to care 😂
Thanks mate, appreciate you mentioning my pet peeve and the channel, great video 👍👍👍
It infuriates me waking up with a ring of fire after eating too much spicy food...
😝😝😝
The grumpy/angry people, yes I agree! I never got it, you live in paradise, what are you so angry about?
Very interesting topic, but in my opinion with answers a bit "sugar coated". I have been living and working in Thailand for almost 20 years with currently two businesses (not F&B or anything related to entertainment) , employing over 50 Thais. I agree with your friend who mentioned the "losing face syndrome" that can surely affect also the daily business operations when dealing with Thais. I would add another two points: 1. The useless 90 days report and all the time-consuming process for VISA and Work permit renewal. I'm glad that digital nomads will have(allegedly) an easier life here in Thailand with regard to Visas, but nothing NEW is done for us, who own and operate businesses, employing a lot of locals and paying taxes as requested. 2. double pricing against white foreigners. for example, in national parks and beaches (Bang Saree to mention one) I know this topic can be sensitive and for this I want to be clear that for me is ONLY matter of PRINCIPLE, not money.
Beautifully summarised mate
@@GoneAdrift Thanks
Surprised no one mentioned anything about the traffic and the big loud engine noise 🤨🤨🤨
Lack of mufflers on motorcycles and longtail boats
I think in the first year especially and up to maybe 5 years people get frustrated with some things when living in a new country, but as time passes, these become less and less. I’ve lived in JP for almost 30 years and can’t readily think of anything that frustrates me anymore. You either just get used to it or rationalize it. I’m sure lots of stuff frustrated the hell out of me in first few years.
🙏🏻
Good call on those walking RUclips videos - they should be illegal really, as the ladies are not aware that they're being filmed. They could cause a lot of damage to relationships as well.
I have lived in rural Thailand for more than 2 years know, for me it's the Thai Drivers that have no respect for traffic laws.
Absolutely Outstanding From Start To Finish // Absolutely Loved It
Thanks always Mr Drew
Sabi Sabi Sammy 😉
It's ok I found it.. ahhh I know I'm just old 😅😅
footpaths, rubbish dumping and no recycling in buildings. oh and digital gonads in chiang mai :D
oh and in bangkok, go to Arno's steakhouse for fresh beef or paleorobbie for all the rest. they have an awesome bbq beef brisket sous vide.
8 only? You are so optimizing man 😂😂😂😂 however, still livable 😅😅😅
800
Paperwork & bureaucracy for sure , bad pavements , driving 😅
infuriating : Slow staff sometimes and the defamation laws means you cant leave a bad review. You look a cafe or restaurant, and it has 5 star reviews and isnt that flash.
There's only 8 things??? It's early days mate....don't forget Thai logic.
I actually never provided my own thoughts ;)
1, 7/11 don’t even have QR code scan facility I use this more than cash from my Thai bank account.
2, pick up trucks tailgating you
3, merc and bmw drivers driving crazy dangerous speeds down the high way
4, Thai bad drivers in Bangkok I use my horn and my Thai wife gets very upset
5, Pattaya drivers I live north Bangkok and when I visit Pattaya I always say its like being in a Lions den its not just Thai the foreigners are terrible Drivers.
6, pedestrian crossings you simple take your life in your own hands so so dangerous
I agree I walk around with my girl and you have farangs giving ya girl the eyes or even trying to chat to her it's crazy not every girl is for rent in pattaya
Just most of them
😁 alright
Ok 🤣🤣🤣
Ok 🤣
All the wheelin and deelin. Always woundering if you pay a fair price. I get that I might not get the thai price all the time as a farang. But the attitude that rich people should always pay for the poor (that sometiomes comes from lazyness) But ist also a buddist thing... It should be my choice when to pay more or to the one that really need it..
In my last 7 trips to Thailand. I seen the grumpy old men you are talking about. Im pretty sure they are grumpy because they can’t get it up hardly and enjoy the nightlife like all of us younger blokes.
Mine is when people say Patyre. It’s FN Pattaya 🤷♂️
Teach them how to to properly pronounce the word.
Pet peeve of mine too. I mean if you live in a city at least learn how to pronounce it’s name
I can't think of anything infuriating...........nothing whatsoever..........just enjoying living an uncomplicated lifestyle..........
😊
All the RUclipsrs trying to make a buck by bringing people to Thailand or elsewhere and in the process turning everything that was once exotic, exciting and interesting about a place into an overcrowded, touristic and no longer so interesting over kill. Your the exception, Gone Adrift.
1 - expats that try to change the thai way of living to there old country of living
2 - what the first guy said about youtubers secretely filming people 🤬🤬🤛👊
100% The grumpy disgruntled old men! They infuriate me
2 week millionaires @ the lack of fresh cows milk products.
Pickup truck drivers…. The worst and most ignorant drivers I’ve seen in the world… here in Thailand
The lack of proper mufflers on the vehicles erks me about Thailand and for sure the furlongs that are only in the country that want drugs and sex and don't care about the actual culture of the beautiful country.
The lack of a Thai welfare system and the government making it bureaucratically difficult to join a trade union.
Gon have to pay for that.
So were you planning on joining a trades union or signing on the dole when you got there mate ?
Not trying to pick a fight but surely that's less about pet peeves expats are likely to encounter when living in Thailand and more in the bracket of what you see as wrong with Thailand as a whole.
Yeah I i agree with mac 💯 , don’t see many foreigners out here but when we do go to Pattaya , patong ect i get a bruised shoulder from my missus hitting me from my remarks to dirty old men lol as for immigration I don’t even have to fill out my forms out here just sign em pay and bail ❤.. great video bro 😎
Diffently Foreigner's and I try to avoid them.
winging poms
Whinging
Whingeing. There fixed it for both of you.
Don’t I look like an utter stooge now!
@@GoneAdriftit is whinge and whinging so you got it right mate
My pet hate was going to the local immigration office in koh samui. They were always looking to get money out of us.Even the paper work you need from immigration which is meant to be free to buy a vehicle, they would charge us.Plus the yearly marriage visa was meant to cost 1,900 baht, but they would charge 5,000 baht & say go to Bangkok & they will take 1,900 baht. That was the nathon branch, not sure if it is still corrupted, but they have moved it to maenam now. & every 3 months when I reported to immigration they expected 500 baht otherwise they would tell you to come back hours later, when it would take them seconds to stamp my passport, So glad I don't live there anymore, as familiarity breeds contempt.
