OMG I love watching Justin Currie. Just love his banter with his audience. His live performance of Driving with the Breaks on was better than the recorded version which I didn't think was humanly possible. What an amazing man. With love from one of your many adoring fans in Australia.
Robert thank you for this magnificent recording - Im watching in my lounge room here in Melbourne Australia - This man is a pure genius and his cynical self depricating personality really takes away from just how successful he should really be on a world stage. The greatest songwriter of his generation, he talks to me through his beautiful music. Cheers Mate!!
What a show...but go to straight to 56mins where they are messing with the drum machine then watch one of the greatest songs to come out of Scotland or anywhere for that matter. What a vocal performance. I once had a lucky miss with Justin who was walking past a restaurant/bar I was playing in on a Sat afternoon in Glasgow. He had a sneaky glance through the window and thankfully kept walking. (I was in-between songs I may add). Nobody needs that pressure!
Wow - this is fantastic. I remember seeing Del Amitri open for Melissa Etheridge (who was terrible) at Jones Beach Long Island back in '88 (or was it '89?). Been a fan ever since. Thanks for posting!
Thanks so much for posting this one. I had tickets but couldn't make it due to work. This is a truly great vid and JC sounds incredible as always. I keep pestering him on Twitter to play again in NYC. Fingers crossed, especially with the new album release.
Agreed! I recorded this whole show but didn’t have my camera for the 2007 show at Joe’s Pub. That was, however, professionally recorded by Rhino Records as I spoke to the guy after the show. My guess is they were planning on using it for promo clips, but to this day I’ve never seen any official footage. These solo tours were intimate and amazing! I have 2 other full shows posted, from “The Great War” at City Winery in NY and from “Lower Reaches” at Sweetwaters in CA...
Also, the reason why this is at the angle it’s at is because this was a dinner theater...and my table was front and center, with the camera pointing up at Justin...you hear him talk about people’s dinner during the show
I was there! (& have the photos to prove it 🙂. Great wee video
My God, what an amazing performance!!!!
Thanks for posting. Feels like I have just watched a free gig. Joyous!
Very few writers have what this one does and his true sense of music is amazing. What a gift to the listening world! Rare talent. My favorite!
