I think the Wanamaker organ should be considered on of the man made wonders of the world The gentleman who conceived n built this magnificent instrument it is his legacy to all of us especially at Christmas time
To listen to this and not cry is something I find impossible the melody is so peaceful yet can remind us of those beautiful memories we will no longer have again.
Update. I finally heard it in person this week and could not contain my emotions. I have never heard music this beautiful in my entire life. Just unbelievable.
Use of Voix Humanas is incredible…. The registration of this organ is something to truely behold. I wish this registration, playing and organ building was a lot more common in modern pipe organs
I am proud to live in Austria where the world famous Christmas carol was created. One of the most beautiful version of Silent Night Holy Night. greetings from Austria
A very simple tune offered to the Almighty with the beauty, grace, grandeur, and restrained power and richness that marks one of humankind's greatest technical and artistic achievements. Bravo!
My grandmother took me every year for the Christmas presentation. Then to Lits for the Colonial Village display. Then lunch at Wanamakers in their fine dining room. Haven't thought of this in years. And very happy to revisit it again.
This has to be one of the best arrangements of Silent Night. The Wanamaker Organ realy shines in this recording. Trust me the organ sounds even better live.
I loved it when the Opera singers there in the building spontaneously started singing a well known Christmas Carol and it was caught on tape. Did you hear it?
We went downtown on the El during the Christmas season to go to the Christmas show at Wanamakers and my favorite was hearing the organ. My high school in Philly, Frankford HS, has a pipe organ in the auditorium. We are the only HS in Philadelphia (and maybe the only school in the district) that has one. I loved hearing it especially at Halloween time.
After a life-threatening infection with the Covid virus, my old mother came home from the intensive care unit today (24.12.2020). I play the song for her. Merry Christmas everyone!
This too beautiful! I heard the organ during 2002 national American Guild of Organists convention. It is a real treasure...good to know that it's being preserved and used regularly.
Lyrics: Silent Night, Holy Night All Is Calm, All Is Bright Round Yon Virgin Mother and Child Holy Infant So Tender and Mild Sleep In Heavenly Peace Sleep In Heavenly Peace Silent Night, Holy Night Shepherds Quake At The Sight Glories Quake At The Sight Heavenly Hosts Sing Alleluia! Christ The Savior Is Born Christ The Savior Is Born Silent Night, Holy Night Son Of God, Love’s Pure Light Radiant Beams From Thy Holy Face, With The Dawn Of Redeeming Grace, Jesus Lord At Thy Birth Jesus Lord At Thy Birth
Música divina para se tocar o ano todo, lindo de mais, principalmente quando vivemos num mundo de incertezas, pobreza sinistra, guerras para todo lado, povos sem rumos e todo tipo de problemas. Congratulation!
Quite a few years ago now we were invited by the then organist for this instrument to sit by him as he played for a New Years Day concert. A thrilling experience.
While this video has long been my go-to and still favorite recording of this song, I just recently found the album "Christmas in the Grand Tradition" featuring Peter Richard Conte alongside Philadelphia Brass Ensemble available on RUclips Music! Not quite this performance but still the Fox arrangement and markedly better sound quality: music.ruclips.net/video/dqyM2gDEcn4/видео.html&si=VCmYJIuZSj2MwLvQ
Adam Ahmed The Wanamaker organ is famous for having all these string stops. But yes, the one at Boardwalk Hall will probably have a lot too. We will see :-)
beautiful spine tingling sound. is it normal for us organs to have bells on them. not seen on many uk organs. also natural bells rather than English minor tone bells ie third note is the minor. is this score available or just improv?
With my halfass uneducated ear. Some sort of strings 1st round, brass 2nd round, woodwinds 3rd? If anyone could provide a stoplist for this I would be so greatful
Gyönyörű szép, köszönöm. A világ legnagyobb csodája ez az orgona. A csendes éj, szentséges éj legszebb hangszeres feldolgozása, számomra. Nincs semmi ének, meg semmi. A tempója olyan nyugtató, az orgona hangja pedig meghatóan szép..
For the attribution of the arrangement to Virgil Fox, see Gothic CD G-49264 "Christmas In The Grand Tradition" with Peter Richard Conte and the Philadelphia Brass Ensemble. This is the very selection included on that album with the arrangement of Silent Night attributed on the CD to Virgil Fox.
OK-- a day devoted to the spiritual aspiration of the soul, or a day devoted to hedonistic pagan gift giving? I'd be embarrassed for myself if I thought the day was only for, or mainly for, hedonistic pagan gift giving. Merry Christmas!
Omg never heard such a powerful organ…..it’s like stripping my soul out of my body
I think the Wanamaker organ should be considered on of the man made wonders of the world The gentleman who conceived n built this magnificent instrument it is his legacy to all of us especially at Christmas time
This instrument is truly one of mankinds greatest achievements.
To listen to this and not cry is something I find impossible the melody is so peaceful yet can remind us of those beautiful memories we will no longer have again.
I cried on the first chord of the organ when the pedal came in. I'm going to see and hear it next year and I can't wait.
You'll always have your memories if you want to. "Memory is the only paradise from which we cannot be driven." (Jean Paul)
Yes. “When our hearts were young and gay.”
Update. I finally heard it in person this week and could not contain my emotions. I have never heard music this beautiful in my entire life. Just unbelievable.
TO JE FANTASTICKÉ ZVUK VARHAN-TICHÁ NOC
Nice warm and sweet voice of this instrument i love to hear the Vox Humana on this organ
Use of Voix Humanas is incredible…. The registration of this organ is something to truely behold. I wish this registration, playing and organ building was a lot more common in modern pipe organs

The most beautiful preformance of Silent Night ever played.... The organ gives me the shivers . Thanks for posting. greetings from Holland.
Der Klang ist nicht von dieser Welt, einfach nur traumhaft. Gänsehaut pur.
Truly amazing. I just can't get enough of it. The sound and the skilful play is just out of this world.
A very simple tune offered to the Almighty with the beauty, grace, grandeur, and restrained power and richness that marks one of humankind's greatest technical and artistic achievements. Bravo!
listen with headphones- its divine!
Absolutely agreeing with you on that one !!
Ae Leilua Or, (in my case) very big speakers.
Amen
I love, this version!!!! I can hear the music and feel it through my veins. It's really uplifting,.
My grandmother took me every year for the Christmas presentation. Then to Lits for the Colonial Village display. Then lunch at Wanamakers in their fine dining room. Haven't thought of this in years. And very happy to revisit it again.
Sounds absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing such a wonderful glimpse at those memories. Magical. ♥️✨
I truly want to see this magnificent machine 😍, of course HEAR IT👋👌
Every time i listen to this i started to fly like an angel with no Sound jet engines
This has to be one of the best arrangements of Silent Night. The Wanamaker Organ realy shines in this recording. Trust me the organ sounds even better live.
They always do don't they. The singers as well.
Highest possible level of sound harmony. Amazing.
Magnificent tribute to a magnificent Lord
I just watched the solar eclipse, and had to come listen to this. Beauty everywhere!
Love how it goes from Bb major to Eb major to Ab major. I got goosebumps on Verse 2!
why are they not playing more old hymns on this amazing instrument? cant stop listening. thank you

My favorite Christmas song of all time! This year will mark its 200th anniversary!
1:44 So epic. Yet majestic. Just like the lord himself.
Put the headphones on and turn the volume up, do it. So powerful word cannot explain.
truly ethereal. i should visit the wanamaker organ and experience this live atleast once in my life
Mesmo ouvindo fora do período de Natal, essa música é sempre oportuna. Linda de mais e tocada por esse órgão magnífico, fica ainda melhor.
wunderbar!!
After a life-threatening infection with the Covid virus, my old mother came home from the intensive care unit today (24.12.2020).
I play the song for her.
Merry Christmas everyone!
how on earth could you dislike this? I think the Wanamaker is the best sounding organ in the world.
Phenomenally breathtaking.
Schitterend!! Wat een orgel!!
Such a beautiful song to play, it sounds really pretty in surround sound.
Yes, I know. It's a beautiful sound
Amazingly great sound and sights!
Thanks for posting from Philippines

Wish I could play that. Love it.

such power with such grace
Amazing!!!!!!
It's a great sound after all those years.
Schlaf in Himmliche Ruhe
This is the kind of sound they have in Heaven.
Yes it is. Heavely.
Quite a few years ago now we were invited by the then organist for this instrument to sit by him as he played for a New Years Day concert. A thrilling experience.
That was fantastic Well done

10/12/2017 15 days to chrismas
The warm fat sound of this organ is not from this earth. If the video only had a better sound quality...
While this video has long been my go-to and still favorite recording of this song, I just recently found the album "Christmas in the Grand Tradition" featuring Peter Richard Conte alongside Philadelphia Brass Ensemble available on RUclips Music! Seem to recall that Virgil wrote this and “Come Sweet Death” specifically for playing on the Wanamaker. Only instrument to truly do them justice.
Yes, he did.
it's a beautiful sound.
Merry christmas to every one from finland 🇫🇮🎄
Merry Christmas to you.
This organ is the best thing to ever come out of the human race! :O
The Boardwalk Hall organ may be better, but it'll be impossible to have an informed opinion on the matter until its restoration is finished.
Adam Ahmed The Wanamaker organ is famous for having all these string stops. But yes, the one at Boardwalk Hall will probably have a lot too. We will see :-)
Eine Super Orgel in einem Kaufhaus das gibt es nur in AMERIKA!!!!!!!!!!! Würde gerne wissen wie viele Pfeifen die Orgel hat weiß es jemand?
28.677 pfeifen.
Vielen Dank und schöne Feiertage!!
Merry Christmas to all.
This has to be what Heaven sounds like.
beautiful spine tingling sound. is it normal for us organs to have bells on them. not seen on many uk organs. also natural bells rather than English minor tone bells ie third note is the minor. is this score available or just improv?
I don't know. Pehaps maybe Google? Greetings, Leendert.
👍🇧🇷🔥👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Think this is Peter Conte playing?
No, Virgil Fox.
It is Peter Richard Conte, i have the CD myself (Christmas in the Grand Tradition)
Those strings are from the organ?!
The Wanamaker organ has 28,750 pipes in total.
Marcus Gaudio The string division wasn't "constructed to be quieter...". Quiet the contrary with more than 80 ranks of them in one division alone.
preuomo yes they are what a beautiful musical reminder of the real gift of Christmas
Marcus Gaudio Those bells sound digital to me
CentralJerseyRailfan Yeah, no. You can clearly hear the pneumatic controllers and the hammer mechanism.
I love :Christmas:: it means. A birth to all,os us on ear he,/let the heavens one earth rejoice and pray for our lord Jesus Christ.

great Virgil Fox arrangement
Jim Kelly-Evans Um, no its not by Virgil.
Actually, I do believe it is Virgil Fox playing this.
No praestant8..........it is in Virgil Fox Christmas Book..........which means the arrangement is by Robt. Hebble
That is not Virgil........but it is talent!

Thanks Leendert Cordemans....
The best organ is Cavallie Colt

why are they not playing more old hymns on this amazing instrument? cant stop listening. thank you
Mainly because it's not in a church?
